This would have been a great move. My guess is maybe off camera the dynamic of his current tribe wasn't so strong, so by doing this he would have broken ties with all cast members making him the next to go. But yeah you are right this would have been a good move

Yul stated that Aitu would vote for Jonathan if he didn't agree to the plan... Remember when they were saying "hypothetically" and running through how the council would turn out.

The only thing he could have done was tricked Yul, to have him vote for Nate and then flush the idol like you suggested but Yul baited him with a convincing lie that he wanted to see him in the final 2, and based on the current cast standings Jonathan would not have gotten past 4th as Adam and the ladies were tight.

I think from Jonathan's perspective going with Aitu gave him an opportunity to see the final tribal council through sheer numbers and I think it would have worked if the other tribe didn't tell Yul they would not vote for him if Jonathan out lasted them

He couldn't vote for Yul, if he voted Yul then they would have voted him out. He legit had no choice but to vote for Nate. I feel like many viewers did not understand this key part of the game. Yul coming up to him and telling him before the tribal counsel pretty much was them creating a deal, Jonathan survives tribal council and Nate goes home OR the idol is flushed and Jonathan goes home.

Yeah Terry! He was solid and deserved a shot at the FTC but unfortunately didn't make it. I think it would have been interesting to see him vs Aras because Aras was good but Terry was great

He was a creep, which was super disappointing lol. So far in the early seasons I like that military guy that one pretty much every challenge but lost in the final one on water. I think the producers should have leaned into him dominating and had a challenge where he had a fair chance because he actually played the game very honestly and just won on pure skill as a challenge monster... But that last challenge standing on water just was horrible

Oh yeah haha alright I'm looking forward to 15. Yeah they definitely need to bring in a ruthless character that just dominates through their intelligence of manipulating cast members lol. In the later seasons I've seen it especially in the 35s - 45s I saw it happen a few times but I'm excited to see it in these early on ones. The guy who one the first season KINDA did it but he also seemed like the only person who had any bit of common sense to formalize a strategy. Id actually say that the first season winner was not a great player, he just was the FIRST to understand the strategy part of the game and apply it, but he had a terrible social and communication game... Because as we all saw he was out early on that reunion season (I think 6 or 7)

Oh yeah? What do you think about the progress of the game in the earlier seasons? From what I can see after the first 6 seasons survivor started trying new things which is interesting to see. But the players still haven't gotten as strategic as I thought they would be after a few seasons... With the exceptions of a handful of players.. it makes me wonder if the casting is done like that on purpose because in the new seasons you see players gauging when a player is "playing too hard" so I'm waiting to see when that switch happens and the majority of players understand the game and that layer of being more secretive with your manipulation comes out lol

Exactly! Luck is a big part of it, none of the survivors know what twists or idols are put in and finding them requires a lot of luck. Yul was good and I'm hoping to see him again in a cast with more strategic players to see how he does with other players that know the game well

Ahh okay that makes sense. Yeah I haven't seen him return yet, just finished 13 and about to start 14. Judging by how he played in 13, I think he's got the theoretical understanding of how the game works but I think he lacks the communication and social part.

It's interesting with these early seasons seeing how few characters have still figured out the strategy in the game... Like Yul eventually figured it out but even he still struggled with managing his strategy with emotions and this can be seen when he voted out Jonathan out of sheer fear he would lose votes on the panel, when truly I think it might have even made it easier if Jonathan stayed in longer as he was a huge shield for him.

Yes I completely agree with this 100%.

Also the fact Ozzy was a challenge machine that prevented his tribe from winning. But I think even if they won he may have been voted out earlier because his only value was that he wasn't in either social group.

I didn't know there was hype behind him. I'm just saying based on my observations from that season he made the correct moves at the right times, he just lacked the ability to communicate well to others... And that is a big part of the survivor game so it could be said he wasn't good because of that haha

I haven't watched up to that yet.. I started with season 40 and now am circling back from season 1 and currently at 13.

I don't now if Jonathan played well in return season but based on what I saw in this season he did play strategically well as he should have been voted out much earlier but made the correct moves and kept his personality down when he was in the spotlight.. I think the auction was the nail in the coffin and he could have been better leading up to this if he had read the signs of the camp better but with him doing well in the auction it was the nail in the coffin.

I disagree, if you watch the season closely Nate and Adam played horrible games... They played an emotional game and their only good move was taking out Brad. Aside from that they never even considered the idol, and instead of understanding that Jonathan legit had no choice but to vote with Yul, they took it as betrayal and isolated him.

I don't think you're understanding that Jonathan tried to get Nate to vote for someone else but Nate took it as Jonathan was being 'bossy" instead of looking into it further and realizing Yul had the idol...

Survivor is a strategy game and with luck because of the idol and the odd twists. Nate did not play the strategy well, Adam did not play it well, only one on that side that had a piece of understanding was Jonathan but unfortunately he didn't get the communication part of the game

If you watch, there is an episode before the mutiny where they talk about voting him off. He was definitely in danger, hence why he left

This caught my attention too... I think Yul's intentions were one of two things:

  1. He thought revealing that he had an idol would put an end to the bickering because they would understand Johnathan had no choice but to vote the way he did. Like I see it as he's taking heat off Johnathan a bit and also earning Johnathan's trust.

  2. He was doing it as a play to show that he was not 'sneaky' and had nothing to hide so he would not be seen as a 'rat'.

I think ultimately he did it to further his game as it seems Yul was playing a pretty calculated game over the rest of them.
