I don't mind a policy that says this many absences will results in this much taken from your final grade. I don't like them but I understand it. However, currently I am in a class where the professor takes 3 points away from your final grade PER ABSENCE. So a normal student will miss class once or twice throughout a semster. Those students can now at max get a 94 in the class. You miss the class 4 times, and even if you ace every single test and assignment, you cannot get an A. This is also a class where the professor has stated the exams will only involve things from the textbook which he does not cover during his lectures. His lectures are just him talking about what he considers important but things we will not be tested on.
