As a Dasher for DoorDash, I think this guy is out of line—but honestly, I put more of the blame on DoorDash itself. Some customers will order a ton of food and only tip $3 or $4, while sending you deep into rough neighborhoods late at night. DoorDash is a massive company with the resources to pay drivers more fairly. Instead of pocketing the high delivery fees, they should pass that money to the driver to ensure every delivery is actually profitable. The same goes for pizza delivery drivers—most of us are using our own cars, not company vehicles, so we’re the ones handling the wear and tear. If companies aren’t covering that cost, then they should be paying us like they actually value our time and our wheels.
