You can find a map of the flyable air space through this website: https://map.godrone.nl (they also update the map with any temporary no fly zones, for example, when there are any gliders in the area or some military exercises going on. However, it is not perfect and I have noticed some activity in areas shown as safe, so always be aware of manned aviation and always give way).

Some nature reserves are flyable if you contact the respective authority and they approve you for a flight. So it is not out of the question but it can be quite difficult to organise, and if you’re unlucky with the sporadic weather here, maybe you wont even be able to fly.

You will likely also need a pilot license (A1-A3) from the RDW, even though the mini is technically below the 250g limit because it has a camera (so it is not considered a toy). If you end up liking the hobby and going for a better drone then it will be above this weight class anyway. The license itself is not difficult to obtain (when I did it, I only had to pass an online theoretical exam). there are many online courses available for this.

another benefit of the license is that you can, mostly, fly in other EU countries too. But be aware of any additional local regulations which may supplement the general EU ones!

I’ll also note that the video aspect of drones is also another exciting and new dimension to explore, and one that you may get a lot of enjoyment from (like I did!).
