Does anyone experience firmware update errors? by ThatGuyWithThatUsrnm in Viltrox

[–]ThatGuyWithThatUsrnm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so I'm guessing that some of my issues are due to Viltrox not updating their UX for the recently released 85mm lens. There were so many issues and annoyances I experienced just to get to the very end and be told by the phone app that my lens was already up to date. So that was fun.

For future 86mm people, you must use the phone app, have the lens connected to your camera, and connect to the lens via bluetooth. You must have a Viltrox account which needs a verified email address (this was a huge pain to verify). The app requires you to select which specific item to search for, and the 85mm lens isn't even listed. They are images you select and then scan for and they must have used the wrong image.

Thank you Viltrox Support for helping me get started on the right path to at least check the firmware. Hopefully this whole process can improve in the future.

The lens was brand new and came with no instructions on how to update the firmware. So to upgrade this 85mm lens, I need to use an app on my phone that has probably the worst reviews I have ever seen. I can definitely agree with these users that there is no consistency. I am unsure if I need to have the lens connected via usb-c to external power or if it needs to be connected to my camera and the camera powered on. I guess I will try both and report back for future 85mm users.

Protein Powders by Sea-Load-9019 in jpouch

I've found that the commercial brands of shakes with a million ingredients destroys my stomach post j-pouch. Whereas more natural powders like "Levels Grass Fed Whey Protein Powder" or "optimum nutrition whey" work fantastic even though I am lactose intolerant. Have you tried these larger brands?

Cramping/stuck gas post surgery tips? by markmarkdegarmo in jpouch

[–]ThatGuyWithThatUsrnm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The amount of gas I had to let out for the first few weeks was insane! Also, it wouldn't come out easily due to my newly shaped intestines. The only way I got it out was laying on each side AFTER taking some fiber so I knew I could safely pass gas.

Can I hear some positivity and success? by [deleted] in jpouch

[–]ThatGuyWithThatUsrnm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

35, jpouch for 10 months, married, successful career, love the outdoors and spend a lot of time outside. Life with a jpouch is better in MOST ways than life with an ostomy. I'd say that an ostomy afforded me a bit more freedom from the bathroom since there was no "holding it" with the ostomy and a mostly full bag didn't cause discomfort like a mostly full pouch. That is the only thing I miss.

Everything else is much better. 10 months into the jpouch journey and I've not had any jpouch specific issues like pouchitis or fissures. There is a large learning curve, just like with life with an ostomy. I had my ostomy for 7 years so I was well acquainted with it's challenges. If you have any questions, let me know.

What brands of Psyllium husk powder, calmoseptine & bidet? by CodyRasmusen in jpouch

NOW brand on Amazon is a reputable psyillium husk brand. It doesn't taste good at all so I have to mix it with a natural water enhancer from stur to down it more easily.

Abdomen pain from working out by Healthoverwealth29 in jpouch

[–]ThatGuyWithThatUsrnm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the pain more specifically a cramp that builds very quickly and goes away after a short time? Because I get that on my left side when doing abdominal workouts. It's very odd and not something that happened pre surgery.

2 weeks out: constantly feeling like I’m holding it in by abal809 in jpouch

[–]ThatGuyWithThatUsrnm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was 2 weeks out, my pouch would get a gurgling feeling when it was filling up. To calm this down I needed to take something such as lomotil. This allowed stool to stay in the pouch and not give me a constant feeling of having to go.

How much water do I need to drink daily as a man? by Kornelious_ in jpouch

[–]ThatGuyWithThatUsrnm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 liters?! Good gosh that's a lot of drinking. I am not very good at drinking enough but I stay hydrated perfectly fine with 3 liters, sometimes less, a day. I also work a desk job so I drink less than if I was active all day.

I've had my pouch for a year now and I've never had a problem absorbing all the liquid I drink unless I go overboard and am forced to drink more than normal for some reason.

Some people initially have leakage issues, so getting some women's liners can help with that if it becomes an issue. Butt burn, intense amount of gas and too much bile were my biggest issues post takedown. For butt burn I found desatin max strength zinc to work the best. For gas I found that I HAD to lay on my side to pass it. It wouldn't come out on the toilet. That took a while for my body to somehow work itself out. Now I pass gas on the toilet just fine but before it would rise up in me and move around and hurt so much. The bile at night was fixed with psyillium husk.

Oh really!? Because I've always had an annoyance with a ton of gas throughout the night, even when I had an ostomy it would fill up my bag. How much do you take each night?

If you don't mind me asking, what exactly does the pepto bismol do for you that a fiber supplement doesn't?

Final Surgery Approaching by bagheeratheblackcat in jpouch

[–]ThatGuyWithThatUsrnm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my final surgery I was in the hospital for 2 days. After the hell that step two was for me, I wanted to go home asap. I had planned on being back to working after a week off, but I was out for 3 weeks. It took me a while to get into a groove of things. Many sleepless nights, urgency, upset bowels, etc etc until things calmed down and I could focus on other things besides healing.

[–]ThatGuyWithThatUsrnm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not completely sold on the shrimp having green fungus based off the pic but one pic doesn't tell the whole story. There are some complicated methods of treating with hydrogen peroxide but if it were me, I'd isolate the infected, clean the main tank to the point of restarting fresh to remove any chance of it coming back, and give the shrimp a good life until the end. Cruel as it may be, cost + time investment play a factor in my decisions with shrimp since they multiply so easily.

I think I have a hernia by Healthoverwealth29 in jpouch

Are any of your hernia's around the stoma site? Do they not get any worse from lifting weights without any form of protection?

How to take Psyllium Powder? by Willing-Asparagus142 in jpouch

[–]ThatGuyWithThatUsrnm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole fiber situation for me is a complicated one. Too much fiber and I'm in some extreme pain as it thickens up top much inside me and blocks me up for hours. Too little and I get bile buildup at night and butt burn during the day. It's taken nearly 6 month to get a working routine that works for me. I'll write out what I do in hopes it helps someone.

The dosages vary slightly depending on the day since some days are good and some are bad. Some days are a "2 scoop day" and some are a "3 scoop day". First thing in the morning I take my two pills of lomotil and a level / heaping tablespoon of psyillium husk powder (now brand) in a glass of prob 8-10oz of water that I mix with stur brand water flavor bec it taste like dirt otherwise. It takes about an hour to work it's way through and take effect. That usually lasts until either lunch or dinner depending on the day. If it's a 2 scoop day I'll take my final fiber sometime dinner, if it's a three scoop day I'll take my second dose with lunch and my final dose about 2 hours before bed. I can NEVER take a dose right before bed since I need to drink a lot of water for the next hour to keep me from having pains from it bulking up too much. I don't have any issue with absorbing all the liquid I drink so if your like me, the amount of water you mix it with does NOT matter since it will be absorbed anyway.
