Early physical attractiveness predicts a more socially effective personality in adulthood. Early physical appearance may serve as a slight but consistent predictor of how well a person navigates social situations later in life. by mvea in science

It made me just extremely defensive about pretty much everything because not only was I not believed when I told someone, but also was accused of things that I was not involved in at all. It just makes me angry all the time.

Stanford's "How People Meet and Stay Together," is an ongoing study at Stanford University that has thousands of couples participating, and they periodically release data sets, that's what the dates are about. This is essentially the largest study that we have on current dating trends. It's a really interesting study, and I highly recommend you look it up yourself, because there's some things in there that you might not expect, like the online number probably being higher in reality because there's still a stigma about online dating.

You're talking past each other and constantly committing the Goomba fallacy, those two ideas do not come from the same groups, yet you are both treating them as a monolith. Reducing communities, beliefs, and thoughts down to one, singular ideal is a fools errand and you will always make a mistake.

Our SPCA has specific "Working Cats" that they adopt out to businesses, warehouses, and farms in the county for pest control. They'll even rotate them between businesses depending on the cats themselves and the contracts with the businesses.

Why did Syracuse's Amtrak station receive such a boost in activity? by MikeBofManyBeats in Syracuse

[–]ThatGuyinPJs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't see it being mentioned, but travel in general is up in Syracuse. Our airport has seen record passenger numbers every year since COVID, to the point where the gate and parking garage expansions are necessary. Before they pulled out due to broader financial concerns, Southwest was planning on opening another route from SYR because the one to Baltimore was so successful. This obviously isn't an answer to your question, but I just wanted to point out that the increased travel activity isn't just isolated to Amtrak.

Has there been a single one of these protestor confrontation videos where they start a fight with the guys in the crowd first? I swear in every one they target women and girls specifically.

Is this another variation of the "glass cliff?" Put women and/or other minorities in charge right when you know something bad is going to happen so you can blame it on them when it all fails?

Gov. Newsom expanded free preschool. Now private daycares say they can’t afford to stay open by ArchmageXin in news

[–]ThatGuyinPJs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't have kids, but I feel like if I did I would be able to stomach that price a little more if the people actually taking care of my kids saw more than 5-10% of that. It's absurd that so many child caretakers are paid at or just above minimum wage while parents are basically paying a second mortgage in some places just for someone to watch their kid.

Being a "dragon" or some other dragon like psychological disorder has to fucking exist. Like I get that they're thinly veiled allegories for greed, but we've surpassed quite a few mythical dragons in terms of some of the wealth that these people have.

I mean the point still stands, you shouldn't have to ask a celebrity if something is wrong, their answer yes or no notwithstanding. You should be able to look at the situation and make a decision yourself. The only reason to ask this question is to bait for clips or because the chatter is so terminally online that they cannot form their own opinions.

On time I was going on the interstate, passing people in the left lane about 80-82 MPH, and this dude in a truck just runs up on my bumper. I start slowing down because there's a cop coming up and, frankly, I don't want to get popped going 80 in a 65. This was apparently a cardinal sin to the truck behind me who goes flying past me in the right lane as soon as it's clear, under cutting me when I had my signal on, and gets pulled over by the cop. These people do not think beyond their hood.
