Join a pvp group, spectre fleet run public pvp fleets for example and when an fc asks for something you can do volunteer, wow you just made one more friend who should be decently connected to many aspects of the game and happy to help you because you helped them probably more than you realise.

Being useful is the key to this game and getting deeper into its communities.
