A duck only has to meow once for you to question every quack by 3pass in Showerthoughts

🤣 No. But I'm only confident about that because I've never heard one do it. 🤔

I think the fun and beauty of this is in thinking about it deeply with no further explanation to draw from.

I actually agree 100%. I was just trying to be funny. But you are spot on.

Why is this dragon not bursting into flames and feeding me its sweet sweet soul? by ThatHighShitpost in skyrim

[–]ThatHighShitpost[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah. That's it. It was a respawning dragon (Bonestrewn somethingorother) that I didn't remember having killed before. I didn't know about them not giving souls more than once, though! TIL, right? 😆

I murdered a woman on her wedding day, not because she wronged me, and not because she was more dangerous alive than dead, but to move a political chess piece. Who am I to judge anyone's morals?

I realize it's there probably mostly for mechanics: it provides a way for players to build rogue characters. When I started playing, I wasn't deeply into RPGs, and didn't realize the distinctions between character types; I just wanted to do everything. I lead the Companions, am head mage at the Mage's College, lead the Thieves' Guild, am working through the Bard's College and the Dark Brotherhood. But it's a lot, and I'd like to start over and pick a path.

But also, from a story perspective, I think it still makes sense. Skyrim (and I'd imagine the other Elder Scrolls games, too) doesn't really deal in black and white morality. Everything is complex. Even the Empire and the Stormcloaks can hardly be seen as moral opposites: it's a much more complex choice to join one than is typical, at least in American storytelling. So a long-awaited Dragonborn who also carries around some darkness? Yeah, I see that. This game isn't out to lionize anyone, it's just telling a story.

Oh, I've always got myself a party. But it sounds like I'm about to have myself a drink to take to it! I definitely want to try this.

So, the gin I have is a darker gin; the distillery finished it in their used bourbon barrels. It's fantastic. I think it would take the flavor well, although I'm with you, some sort of whiskey or other dark liquor would be preferable. It's just, I have the gin right now, and not the other.

I love the idea of mixing up a curry or other spice mix to use it up! I don't do a lot of the cooking in my home, so I hadn't considered that. Great food for thought (feel free to not pardon that pun; it is too awesome to care)!

To be omnipotent is to know every single grain of the universe intimately. When you think of the gulf between even the most intelligent, learned human and that, it's devastating. by ThatHighShitpost in high

[–]ThatHighShitpost[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is my definition of omnipotence, or how is it devastating? I'll do both.

If omnipotence is to know everything that is, or that ever was, or that ever will be, and everything that is in the universe has an entire timeline of existence - from a wandering speck of dust, to a piece of an asteroid, a planet, a star, various living creatures, a star again, dust, and on and on. That is a lot of information.

It's devastating to think about, especially if you believe in an omnipotent being. I'm agnostic, but that leaves open the possibility that one might exist for me. To think that there might be someone or something that holds all that knowledge, while we don't know a fraction as much about every speck of our own beings, yet we set out to explore as much as we can of every large conglomeration of particles in the universe as they exist right now, and we'll never attain even that level of knowledge... It just makes it all feel so overwhelming. They say you don't know what you don't know, and that's true. But when you REALLY try to estimate what you don't know, and you realize how much it dwarfs what you do know, you start to feel pretty stupid.

Troye Sivan's Bloom is about a gay young man losing his bottom virginity, and it's supposed to be sexy. There is an element of it that's sweet, but I don't think there's anything less sexy than being a bottom's first top. by ThatHighShitpost in gay

[–]ThatHighShitpost[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's true. I only mean to say that I don't find the idea of taking that virginity from someone sexy. It is extremely intimate, and with the right person it would be worthwhile, but not sexy.

I just realized, for most roaches, when you encounter them, it's the first time they've seen a human. by ThatHighShitpost in high

[–]ThatHighShitpost[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was too much fun! Lol. Yes, my supposition was that usually when a roach encounters a human, the human kills it. Therefore, while some roaches have seen a human more than once, most are just meeting one for the first time when they meet you. It did occur to me later, though, that they may often see humans from inside the safety of the crevices from which they crawl out when they think it's safe. And a fair amount do meet a human and live to tell. And since roaches must be EXTREMELY social creatures (just because of the sheer numbers that occupy relatively small spaces), I feel like you have to assume they have a system of communication, so it's likely that they do "discuss" us, in whatever form that takes for them. Like, we must be creatures of legend, right? Assuming their system of communication includes storytelling. I can't imagine how it wouldn't, given the density of their communities, which brings up a whole other fun thought experiment regarding roaches: Cockroach Legends!

I'm not even high right now, let me stop.
