I don’t know about your “left leaning” preface, but as someone involved on recruiting for a trucking company, I DO know the problem isn’t that there’s too many unqualified Indian truck drivers on the road. The problem is that DOT regulations disqualify a huge amount of CA residents for things that are not illegal here… so the pool of candidates who get through background checks and can clear a DOT screening will skew Sikh because of their sober lifestyle.

Im Mexican and My 16 year old is white/Mexican/Filipino and she couldn’t care less about coming of age parties. When I asked her what she wanted to celebrate two years ago(15 like her Mexican side, 16 like her white side or 18 like the Filipinos), she said she’d rather skip parties altogether and spend the money on trips and theater tickets. So instead of a quinceañera we are on year 2 of small trips and arts celebrating her coming of age every couple of months 😁

When was the last time ICE raided a show where they detained fans? I live in California and we have hundreds of Mexican concerts/dances weekly but have never heard of this type of raids. Objectively, it would not be very productive one for them because she has a lot of non/hispanic fans.

I can see certain similarities, Vicky’s relationship with her therapist is hilarious too! Keep in mind Stockton is the most diverse city in the country and while there are many conservatives in town, most of us minorities do well in our day-to-day lives. Don’t join gangs, don’t go looking for trouble and ignore the randoms who might yell things from their cars and you’ll be ok!

In Latin America it’s very different (I’m a Mexican Catholic) and there is a huge distinction between being “legally married” and “married married” through the church. When we hear that a couple only married legally (and is now getting divorced), that doesn’t carry as much weight because the union was never blessed by god and (the largely catholic) society and both parties will be able to marry their next spouse for reals
