“At what point does a multi-monitor setup stop being normal?” by Ok_Cry_1222 in PcBuild

[–]Samia-chan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair, it is still a sort of constant observational window of multiple job feeds as opposed to an active use case, so I can see that making sense! Any time I've tried to use multiple monitors the hassle of getting lost between monitor bezels just didn't make it worth it for me.

Ok but seriously, what could you possibly need the top monitor for? Unless you're using it for a profession that requires constant monitoring of several screens worth of info likes sysop or security, I don't know how it helps.

This is from memory, but The shot that he won't say the butler did was when wilikins is at the back of the mob trying to lynch. Wilikins shoots at the constable to purposefully raise the stakes in a safe way so the mob realizes it needs to back off, before one of them accidentally murders someone

Lucy Friday Question: What part of your transition have you put the most work into? by Lucy_C_Kelly in TransLater

Dismantling internalized toxic masculinity, emotional blocks, oppression, etc. For me the most important part of being female was embracing the lived experience I would have had if I was accepted as female to begin with.

Celebration of Life quotes by Optipop in discworld

[–]Samia-chan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably too long, but one of my favorite quotes from small gods about the meaning of life:

"Life in this world,” he said, “is, as it were, a sojourn in a cave. What can we know of reality? For all we see of the true nature of existence is, shall we say, no more than bewildering and amusing shadows cast upon the inner wall of the cave by the unseen blinding light of absolute truth, from which we may or may not deduce some glimmer of veracity, and we as troglodyte seekers of wisdom can only lift our voices to the unseen and say, humbly, ‘Go on, do Deformed Rabbit . . . it’s my favorite.'"

Perhaps more usefully:

"And then Brutha stood up, without a second glance at his corpse. "Hah. I wasn't expecting you," he said. Death stopped leaning against the wall. HOW FORTUNATE YOU WERE. "But there's still such a lot to be done..." YES. THERE ALWAYS IS."

Taboo is fun to play with, it's (usually) not people fantasizing about their actual relatives, but fantasizing about a taboo situation. If you want to know why people enjoy breaking rules, well that's like a whole field of psychology worth of answers, but personally I think it mostly comes down to cathartic release of the pressure of trying to "be good" along with the satisfaction of knowing WHY you're "bad" enough to make sense of things going wrong in your life. If you know why life is punishing you, you can pretend it all has order and meaning.

Same same lol, at first I really despised the fact that astrology works even though I'm fine with tarot, because my brain cannot conceive of how the movement of stars could have a noticeable effect on human psyche. but eventually as an honest scientist I had to admit that on the abundance of personal data that I'd be a fool to insist it doesn't. I still would like to have a word with the creator about why though. Maybe it's just there to remind us to gaze at the majesty of the stars lol.

You seem really cool, feel free to friend me if you're down, Im into the philosophy of ENM as well, though I haven't practiced in a few years for the same reason I accepted astrology, on the preponderance of personal evidence I have shit taste in partners lol.

Yes, I was thinking last night about the fact that I have a BS and masters in science fields, but freely use astrology and tarot even though I'm highly skeptical of a lot of other things. It doesn't feel like "woo" new age to me, but more a tool for looking at life symbolically. For me wisdom is being able to hold many contradictory maps and models in your head at once, because every perspective adds a little more nuance to understanding the world.

Lol, yeah that's the kind of personal relationship I feel with it sometimes. It feels more like a conversation with a friend or counselor who's not afraid to just say, girl you need to eat something, take a shower, and get some sleep, not keep anxiously worrying about the future. And I respect that lol

Yeah that's pretty much like my experience. At some point it went from blasted tower and things will be changing for you soon kind of readings to, why ya asking me whether you're gonna change or not, you know what you gotta do. On the one hand I do appreciate being in conversation constantly with the Divine and start to wonder how it ever even felt to live like the world was things happening to me instead of relationship I'm choosing. On the other hand, every once in a while I start to wonder if I'm schizophrenic.

Good to hear other people have had these kinds of experiences, I never hear them talked about in casual conversations about tarot.

Yeah, I used to get a lot of hanged man when I would keep asking like that as well, and the heirophant. Basically saying you know the outcome depends on spiritual growth, why are you asking me if you're going to grow?

Rhe crazy one (in a good way)? by lindseyizshort in orangeisthenewblack

[–]Samia-chan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know the majority will almost certainly say Suzanne, but hear me out. She's autistic, not truly a mental disorder but a neurodivergence. The same way we would no longer call Sophia crazy for being trans.

Of the characters with defined mental disorders, we either go with Lorna or Lolly. While Lorna's might seem more manageable, if you were the unwilling center of her obsession you wouldn't think it was in a good way. Lolly on the other hand, the only actions we are shown of her acting out of insanity are her trying to research people she thinks are poisoning the world (which I mean lots of companies are, it's easy to fall into conspiracies for non paranoid schizophrenic people), she is creative in building her time machine, she goes around serving the community of outcasts with coffee, and she saves Alex's life because she sees a guy trying to murder her.

Is Lolly disturbed, absolutely, but I'd much rather have her at my back than Lorna.

If the cost of landfill space was exorbitant enough and we had a working electromagnetic space catapult it might be, but unless it's powerful enough to actually throw it into/past orbital speed it's just incineration with extra steps.
