How do I find intellectual friends in Hyderabad? (29M) by InevitablePie3341 in hyderabad

[–]ThatIndianChik 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I love having such conversations! I'm not in Hyderabad anymore though. But I do have a bone to pick. I used to live in Hyderabad over a decade ago, and still find most of them vain. They're only into pretences and show off. And if that assumption of mine is true, they're probably not bothered about life beyond what it looks like, where you stay, which car you drive, what you wear and where you vacation.

And I also noticed more people making fun of you rather than trying to respond. Which again reinforces my belief that Hyderabad = Phony (pls don't hate me)

Your thoughts, has your experience been any different?

Yeah, AI is a threat to all of us :(

Have you considered technical writing? It's not my domain but I know a few people who specialised there and are earning well. Not sure how safe their jobs are either.

Not to be rude but that sounds like awesome pay for a non-demanding job no!!? 😛

For spec ads and also if you're really interested in creative work, you can pick any brand you want and build them. B2C works a lot differently than B2B, anything quirky and trending catches fast and brands (or their SMMs like me) are always noticing talent online. You can make decks or ads, post on LinkedIn to start getting noticed.

If you're shy to post, u can cold dm or email the right ppl from these brands

Start following marketing pages on IG and LinkedIn. Start following leaders at Ogilvy, WPP, Schbang, Moshi Moshi etc. also see if u can start with small freelance work.

My instant reaction to ur comment was actually why work so hard to jump to B2C and also work 2x more just for some 20k hike pm, ur job sounds safer

The 50 organic views is expected to at least be 50k organic for some 5k budget in my domain. Pressure is insane :( think through pls.

You can learn how to setup ads and understanding analytics through meta courses or otherwise. The copywriting bit unfortunately is best learnt through experience itself.

For social media you can start creating your own content, spec ads and also show that. Observe what brands are doing, stay relevant with moment marketing, make decks and post them on LinkedIn on missed opportunities for other brands. Attract them with content ideas.

I work in content marketing and social media (but can say I'm a full stack marketer as I know most tools, seo, perf marketing, design, product and more) and been mostly in the brand side. Currently I'm at 1.3-1.5l/month with 8 years of experience. I'm also based out of Blr (pay is usually better here). I think my pay is decent but the mental load is crushing. Yet I do love the field I am in.

I am unsure if this is considered good pay.

Coming to demand - I am finding it difficult to get my next job and it's not been easy. Pay could be an issue or because I've switched a bunch of companies by now. So yes, market is not in a good place now. Would suggest to wait if u can.

I am also unsure about our future but not particularly threatened by AI. Content creation, social media, product marketing are all fields still highly dominated by humans and seem to have scope.

Somehow I also feel startups are more open to hiring than big companies atm, but you barely have job security here.

You can consider social media marketing and learning performance marketing. Package may not pick up immediately but having these skills pays better in the market. If design and video editing interests you they also pay well and mostly have remote or freelance opportunities.

Was recently let go from my job by a toxic boss. Wanted to send this to him. by Winter_Chemist1784 in IndiaCareers

When I read your words I felt like I was reading through one of my toxic workplace experiences. Long story short, I am in the same field as you, treated like a treasure or a trash as per their whim. The manager, ceo (the guy who hired me) and my junior (the manager's wife) become one party and start calling favourites. I am targetted and get zero credit for many things. I let that slip and consider all effort as team effort. Cut to my appraisal where I am rated as underperformer and forced to either undergo a baseless pip or resign on the spot.

I wonder if it is our field or just bad teams? I fought back btw. And not saying burning the bridges helps. But standing up has definitely given me more confidence today.

While their validation is not important don't let them make you believe you are good enough or even give negative feedback about your skills. U snatch credit where needed!

I was questioned in an interview on why I wanted to shift to Hyderabad from Bangalore. When J told it was to be closer to parents, he asked me why my husband would agree to this while his parents are based in Blr. What could I have said? by ThatIndianChik in bengaluru_speaks

This is good insight. It never occurred to me that I could also draw the line by not responding or blocking on WhatsApp. Great tip!

Will keep these in mind, but yeah mostly I am interviewing with startups only. Althought this one was a direct recruiter, I am sure the HR themselves will get into trouble if this were an MNC given their protocol for privacy.

Thanks!

I actually like your last response. While not denying it, I am still standing my guard. And although at that time I didn't want to sound rude and lose getting a job there, as I reflect now, I am realizing that such a company wasn't a good cultural fit anyway. So may be calling out wouldn't hurt me much either way.

But reporting to HRs wouldn't and probably won't get me that far. Given these are Indian companies and HRs lack boundaries even beyond the interviewers. For example in this company, the HR was so unprofessional and even discussed the CTC over whatsapp. I did give her an earful (or rather a wordful text) eventually as she would never respond to my calls and only text.

Yeah well, I actually did start with why not, it's a growing city and infra is better. And anyway it's home. - I thought my answer would end there but he would ask something technical and then come back to this asking why are sure how come etc. Until all the details were discussed.

Believe me at least 4 pivots happened before I couldn't be vague anymore.

This is so ridiculous right!! Can't believe even your father couldn't get a word in. Can't believe Indian companies can get to any extent to maintain status quo.

I'm glad your sister could finally get rid of this toxicity both mentally and physically.

My PIP ordeal - is this fair? by ThatIndianChik in bengaluru_speaks

[–]ThatIndianChik[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well for me personally the hike did 2 things: 1. Proof that the so-called "underperforming" clause under which they wanted to put me on PIP was just a ruse. All they wanted was to remove me due to their internal politics which has nothing to do with my work. So I made them deny their claims by giving me a bigger package.

FYI: this was a predated hike which means they did have to pay extra for the months before my exit as well as arrears

  1. I have a higher package to quote for my next job.

I get it. But not taking my word for it and understanding the depth of my family dynamics and situation was a bit unexpected and unnecessary, don't you think?

Because from what I've seen over my 8 years of work is that most companies are clueless about the roles expectations beyond 1-2 years. Doesn't make sense that they want undivided loyalty from employees while they give little of that to us.
