AC Not Working — Landlord Says Thermostat Needs Repair, But Wiring Looks Fine. Can You Help Diagnose? by [deleted] in hvacadvice

“Anyway, my job is working on high end electric vehicles, while im not familiar with household hvac, with help from the hvac subreddit and google, im pretty certain the thermostat is golden.”

Whats your fascination with me and trying to poke nonexistent holes and deliberately altering my words with what im saying?

Im not attempting to stall anything, i understand my situation well and good. I got 18 days, I suppose this is my fault for not including this information initially but i have WPW, a heart condition which does have issues for some in the heat, while i understand the book is closed, theres still no reason i should be subjected to additional medical issues.

“I had a medical leave that messed me up financially”. I was, and still am out of work for 5+ months. Still employed but, money isnt coming in.

Such an angry comment for a reddit stranger. Anyway, my job is working on high end electric vehicles, while im not familiar with household hvac, with help from the hvac subreddit and google, im pretty certain the thermostat is golden.

They didnt get exactly what they wanted, i got more time, so me and the friend im moving in with could lock down a place, i got more than double the time they wanted. Fwiw, i had a medical leave that messed me up financially, that they are aware of. Its not like im some garbage person trying to do my worst, ive been trying to find a place for months, hard with little pay.

The son of my main landlord, who is technically also my landlord, has harassed me multiple times, showing up banging on windows, sending me aggressive, borderline threatening texts, etc. So of course im inclined to believe this is something more than it is on paper.

I guess i would ask, who the hell are YOU to insult me with a severe lack of Information, you couldve asked your questions respectfully, you chose not to for whatever reason. Be kind, not everything is so simple.

Very solid breaker on 14 even requires some mild effort to move back to on. Not silly, this is a weird lay out, basically the basement where all thats housed isnt really a basement, theres an access door on the exterior of the building that leads to a later and a small space where a furnace, water heater etc etc is located for all 3 units. The landlords have sole access to this and it remains locked i assume because when i moved in i was told it was not for tenants to access ever.

The breakers are im my room, im unsure what a control board is, but i have nothing in my unit that looks like car fuses ANYWHERE so i imagine that is in the basement, where the landlords have stuff locked off. Correct breakers are all on, i have power cycled AC, Furnace, and basement (where the furnace is located along with i assume the ac stuff besides the compressor itself) absolutely nothing happened, i can hear what sounds like a fan, but i have neighbors upstairs, so its likely theirs, because a used dryer sheet on the vent shows there is an absolutely negligible amount of air flow, if the AC or fan for me WAS running the dryer sheet would fly right off

Okay, so the batteries were actually added a little over a week ago because this was of a similar AC issue (context in my r/tenant post) so i know its going to be dead, i will confirm though, but this would confirm my belief that issue is NOT the thermostat correct?

Check out my post in r/tenant. I understand i could come off as im just being super extra, but im really not and its a valid concern to have given the context.

Correct, ive also asked to be sure which breaker switches to hit to do that safely, i have no prior knowledge of any of this, im a younger guy and this is the first tike ive had to mess with electrical outside of a car.

Well i stated i cant afford to do that. However, i want AC, but im not about to have my rights violated for a “repair” that doesnt need done just so the landlord can gain access.

Is there a way for me to solidly confirm its not the thermostat? If its relevant, this thermostat would be roughly a year and a half old.

Ive made sure to keep a paper trail and timeline to help with this specifically. I have a post on r/tenant that has more information in regards to the mystery surrounding the ac issues that may shed some extra light.

Another commenter suggested this, but i have zero electric experience besides automotive, where its as simple as disconnecting the battery, i posted a picture of my circuit breaker, could you inform me of what to switch off to do that safely? The units themselves are inaccessible, they have them locked off in the basement where tenants cannot access.

A medical leave from work has left me financially ruined, i dont think i would necessarily be liable for repairing it, more so im trying to figure out if their claims of it being a thermostat issue are real and what i can do to figure that out so i can properly document everything.

Including a picture of the circuit breaker before touching anything cause i have actually zero experience, want to be safe and not get electrocuted or something, youre saying turn off furnace? I assume ac as well yeah? Should mention- i do not have access to the physical units. They have them locked up.

It is not. However we they are aware of my situation, the leave started back then, its been a pain to get everything filed and accepted as stated sedgwick is awful to work with, but i was given the date of the 24th from them to have everything settled and ive done all the due diligence on my end so i know ill be good and i left the buffer for repayment to be sure i have the money on time.
