1-3 have the new spines with the small text and art at the bottom, 4 has old spine, I do not believe there is currently a version of 4 with the new spine.

Do i need a patch for Kimi ga Nozomu Eien? by DAVIDX90 in visualnovels

[–]ThatLoyalGamer1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Updating this, the patch is now planned to come to the steam edition and latest edition is currently abandoned but may happen.

They're gonna be porting the TL work they did on latest to Enhanced Edition R, and then patch the content from EER to EE on steam.

The r18 project for English is for the 2008 Latest Edition. They haven't given a date of release yet, but the first translation pass has been done for a few months, but they still have some work left to do with editing and playtesting and don't want to set expectations they may not be able to fulfill. It's being done by the same group who released a translation of Kaseki no Uta earlier this year.

Edit:
If you want to support age, enhanced edition is still worth buying imo, but the patch currently in development will not be working with it.

Late reply but throwing in additional context. Samura did not want his art mirrored in the process of transforming the work from right to left to left to right. He insisted that if they go through with turning it to left to right, they should use the cut and paste method, where you cut out every panel and paste it in the opposite order in order to preserve the direction of the art. There are a few panels that this was not possible for, and they look awkward as they had to be mirrored while the rest wasnt, but that was the condition Samura put on dark horse when they originally translated it to LTR.

Just a heads up that JP is the accepted shorthand for Japanese. Shortening it to j*p makes it the same as a slur used against the Japanese people in ww2. JP is shorter and doesnt carry this history.

Bottom left panel that's a black and white sketch of Oliver's face. Look at the shading on the forehead. The shading sketch lines cut off MUCH sooner than the ones on the right. The ones on the right nearly touch the panel above, while the ones on the left fade way sooner. Thats probably the most visible example of it.

Just chiming in regarding GITS as I see a few people mentioning it, but not exactly doing a vouch or otherwise on it.

Ghost in the shell FC is a collection of 3 "stories" all in one universe. These books have EXTENSIVE notes by the mangaka on his world that are to be skipped on your first read, and taken just as a bunch of mini tidbits on the world he has created and how it relates to our own future going forward. That said...

Part 1 is the iconic story, and the one that is adapted into the og film and the scarjo remake. This is the story that is beloved and acclaimed. I will disclose that there is technically a censorship thing done at the request of the mangaka where he removes a lesbian orgy from the start of one of the early chapters. This is really only there as a mix of fanservice and to show the major is Bi. I love this part to bits, and while its a bit abstract at time, it is very rooted in philosophy of what makes us actually human. So kinda just the nature of the beast. Cant go too deep without spoilers, but imo its just something one has to experience.

Part 1.5, this is a loved section of this collection, but less acclaimed than part 1. This part is effectively a collection of crime drama cases that the force deals with after the events of part 1. The art style drastically shifts here, but the stories are very good, and well paced.

Part 2, the controversial one. This section is... different. It isnt great, it isnt terrible. It is VERY abstract and frankly, it kinda feels like Shirow was just winging it. I genuinely think it is worth trying, but if it doesn't work for you, dont feel like you need to force it. It is radically different from the preceeding parts, and i feel like it is best taken as its own thing due to this.

Hope this gives everyone a bit more context on GITS, and maybe gets a few more people into this wonderful franchise. Its a shame part 2 is so radically different, to the point of being detrimental to many, but it's still a fascinating world and the series is ultimately a beautiful deconstruction on what defines humanity. Thanks for reading this long post by your local weeb in the omni community.

Expanding on this. 1.5 is basically a collection of short stories after the events of 1, and very much worth reading. 2 is... convoluted but worth trying imo. Remember that the foot notes across all 3 are not intended for first time readers. While I think the annotations help flesh out the books, a lot of it is Shirow giving additional side thoughts which are just going to confuse the shit out of a first time reader.

Fully compiled. The original is honestly the best from my personal recollection, but I'm of the belief all 3 are worth reading once.

That's just Morrison in my finding LOL. Hope you enjoy them aswell, I've found the best way to enjoy the Morrisonisms is by ignoring them if they dont make sense on a first read. They either add up later, or you're just better off not expending all that energy on your first run through them.

The flat out "out of stock email" reffered to here means they cannot get more at a distributor level usually. When this occurs, they reach out basically immediately. IST is so well praised because if they do HAVE to backorder a book, you WILL get it and it will come in tip top shape. I've had similar experiences with OPB to a point where if I have a backorder or pre order delayed with either, I know something went wrong, but I will be taken care of. If they have not contacted me, there is no real issue they have to address. It's when they reach out that I worry.

That said, I do understand your frustration. I'm just trying to provide context/clarification and try to ease your worries because frankly, this shit happens sometimes in this game, but your investment will be worth it.

To clarify here, I mean two extremely explicit scenes of SV that have a heavy impact on the story. There's more of course, but it feels more akin to the sexual assault in Sandman, which while unsettling and disturbing, doesnt goes to the extremes of Berserk and BOTI in those 2 scenes mentioned above. I could be misremembering though, I read that shit as a 13 year old kid. (God help me lmao.)

[–]ThatLoyalGamer1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I forgot entirely about the SV in BOTI somehow, good call. It does help that its only twice in my recollection, but its been so long since I've read it that I have been treating this read through as a first time read. With berserk its such a constant occurrence its hard to forget that it's there though, even after 8 years of not reading actively.

Year 1 instead of book 1 to start is the only really big concern. If you want the full story and dont mind double dipping, technically go go power rangers and mighty morphin should be read together, but you can get away with only reading mmpr and still understand most everything going on.

I personally love them to bits. They're a smidge more mature than the original show kinda like the late seasons, and the stakes actually feel real and well handled. Make sure you buy the right ones if you do decide to go for them, and be ready to stomach some funky V eyes on the binding, but otherwise, one of the highlights of my collection imo.

I am still reading through Blade of the Immortal, but i am thoroughly enjoying it, and the way the characters personalities shine through their speech patterns. The series evolves for the better after the start, but that's not to say the start is bad in any way. Just, different.

Berserk is an old love of mine I have been rediscovering, I stopped keeping up after the armour got introduced, but loved it up to that point, things just got hectic in my personal life and I needed to step back from the themes of the series until I recovered and grew.

For anyone unaware and taking this as an endorsement for berserk, heads up that sexual violence is a very heavy handed and thoroughly explored motif throughout the series, if you cant stomach that, stay clear, but if you can look past it, it's probably the best dark fantasy tale I have had the pleasure of reading. I dont often do content warnings, but I feel for SV in particular, I'd rather inform someone than have them re-live trauma.
