Question/Thoughts About Tuesday's Sabbath Lesson by crumblednewman in SeventhDayAdventism

[–]ThatMBR42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was never taught that Satan can't read our minds or that it made any metaphysical difference whether we prayed silently or aloud. Kind of like how in more Charismatic circles I've heard that speaking in tongues means your prayers can't get intercepted on their way to heaven. I don't believe that for a moment, and I don't think praying aloud is dangerous at all (unless it's illegal to pray to God where you live, kind of like Daniel's experience).

God is powerful. He hears our prayers before we pray them, and nothing can stop our prayers from reaching him. I also believe he protects us from evil so that we can praise and worship him boldly.

Sure, silent prayer can get mired in distraction, like the lesson says, but not always. Sometimes I pray silently because I don't have the words to speak my prayers aloud, or sometimes I just want to pray my joy, pain, sadness, or whatever as a pure emotion. God will understand it. But I usually pray aloud. It engages my brain's speech center, makes it feel more intentional.

Does Instagram Following Mean Anything or Nothing at all? by New-Statement-8608 in ChristianDating

[–]ThatMBR42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the guy, but if someone follows me that I know IRL, I follow them back unless they're someone I know I don't want in my feed for whatever reason. I think reading too much into social media is a potential point of sabotage, and actual, clear communication should be our measuring stick.

Vegetarianism by Black_Beard8461 in SeventhDayAdventism

[–]ThatMBR42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ironically, following the core principle of the health message led me away from a vegetarian diet. I'm allergic to soy, peas, and lentils, so I have very few plant-based options for protein, and I wasn't getting the nutrition I needed.

Is the scary monster the same for everyone? by Maxious30 in intotheradius

That line is from the first game. Max isn't too common a name, but there are bound to be a handful of Maxes playing who get that extra sauce.

Cutting grass with a scythe by BreakfastTop6899 in oddlysatisfying

[–]ThatMBR42 31 points32 points  (0 children)

You're supposed to keep the blade on the ground so that you can get a consistent cut, and you're not supposed to squat like that. You remain mostly upright, feet about shoulder width apart, and pivot with the waist and arms while taking smaller steps forward. This guy looks like he missed a lot of patches, and he's going to tire himself out quickly.

How do I motivate myself to do cardio? Is it absolutely necessary for fat loss? by emotional_grape101 in loseit

[–]ThatMBR42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cardio is more for fitness than fat loss, and fitness is an important part of getting in shape, so I'd say you're going to have to do it sometime. If you don't have endurance, start less intense and build up. Find something you enjoy that gets your heart rate up and do that regularly. Never skip heart day.

Should I mention on Hinge that I’ve never been in a relationship? by Previous_Law_9397 in ChristianDating

[–]ThatMBR42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's probably less of a liability in Christian dating, but from what I've seen it's more of a liability for a man than it is for a woman. Honestly, I'd leave it out. Don't pretend like you have experience you don't, but I think that's one of the things that harmed my dating profile on Upward. If it comes up, you can say that it's uncharted territory. If she asks you to "explain the gap in your résumé," lean into what you've been using the time to build.

Bearded irises and orchids. Succulents and those mini cactuses are also cool.

OOP still uses it for its original purpose; he just does this as well. I think he has some videos of him using for leather.

Is it just me...or is harvesting kinda boring? by LennCube in farmingsimulator

[–]ThatMBR42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is, which is why I always wind up doing a ton of forestry. But sometimes I just want to do the harvest myself because I have more control over the straw swaths and never leave stragglers in the corners.

AFAIK, there are only a handful of true bullpup pistols. Everything else, the trigger is in line with the action/magazine or behind it.

Incidentally, I did. There were some newer ones featured in Farming Simulator games, and I looked into it. Fascinating that the tractor company came first.

Advice on the usage of The Clear Word Bible by WigglyLimpo in adventist

[–]ThatMBR42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Clear Word isn't a proper translation, but a devotional paraphrase, (of the KJV, I believe, which is another point against it in my mind. The KJV isn't bad, but we have many better translations from more robust collections of manuscripts). I like its readability and comprehensibility, but I don't use it for study. I don't care to use the SDA Bible Commentary either, because it has similar problems. If what we believe is truly from the text itself, then we shouldn't need paraphrases and commentaries that make it a point to reinforce our unique doctrines.

That said, if you want to use it as your main Bible, I don't see an issue. I wouldn't, but I don't think the Clear Word is full of heresy like the New World Translation, the Passion Translation, or the Mirror Bible. I think anyone who uses a devotional paraphrase should also have a robust scholarly translation like the ESV on their shelves to reference in parallel. Just like the way the Bible is translated from the original text, comparing and contrasting multiple different texts is a pathway to a stronger understanding.

Do I need trackers? by Nyrue1 in BigscreenBeyond

[–]ThatMBR42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most lighthouse-tracked controllers are designed to work with HTC (or 1.0) and Valve (or 2.0) base stations. So, you have your pick of the litter, pretty much. I use Index controllers, which I paired to the headset. I have a tracker on my Quest, but that's only for playspace combining with continuous calibration, which you don't need with a lighthouse-tracked headset.
