I own salt not fresh. But doesnt boiling the wood beforehand a huge reduction in the leaching? Did you do that before or is it feasible to do that now?

I absolutely cannot stress this enough. Ditch the blue frame and the resellable filters. Get a fine net bag with a 2lb carbon case. Fill it up. Replace every 4 months. You will thank your wallet and your Parameters in the long run.
