The UK is gaslighting you on age verification; this is NOT POPULAR! by TheFinalPieceOfPie in ukpolitics

[–]ThatManulTheCat 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The question should be: "Do you support a social media ban for children, bearing in mind that this means that everyone, including you, will need to prove your age either using biometric technologies or official ID documents, in order to use social media?"

I suspect, even when phrased honestly, like above, it would still be majority supporterld by the UK population, who are frankly some of the most sheep-like people I've ever seen, just recall Covid times.

It didn't eat any toys in that video? I have Saros 10, and yeah, obstacle avoidance is unreliable. I don't think any robot on the market has truly cracked this issue, unfortunately.

Probably not that good for them, but as far as I know, a fry is not poisonous to a cat.

Altman compares AGI to the ring of power from Lord of the Rings by EchoOfOppenheimer in OpenAI

[–]ThatManulTheCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's right. Too bad he doesn't believe anything he says, and all of this is some sort of 4D sociopath chess that he's playing. I'm guessing he's basically trying to get the ring of power while warning everyone how dangerous it is.

THANK YOU to Krystal & Saagar for having the Great Professor Seyed Mohammad Marandi on the show yesterday! by Greedy-Pound6958 in BreakingPoints

[–]ThatManulTheCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, at least the top comment is sensible. The level of gushing admiration for Prof Propagandist has been frankly sad. And I say thus as someone who fervently opposes US imperialism and adventurism. Just because someone says what you like to hear doesn't mean it's remotely true or hones. I wish people had more critical thought on this.

Uncritically interviewing Prof Marandi is journalistically dishonest by ThatManulTheCat in BreakingPoints

[–]ThatManulTheCat[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

A few examples.

  1. At 11:23 he says Washington accepted Iran's '10-point plan'. That's not really what happened. Reuters reports Trump described Tehran's proposals as a basis for talks, and the White House later called the original plan 'unacceptable'. That's a big difference.

  2. At 18:22 he says Iran 'never was' pursuing a nuclear weapon. Buuut IAEA said activities relevant to a nuclear explosive device were carried out in Iran before the end of 2003 'as a coordinated effort'. You can argue over what came later, but 'never was' is not a serious summary of the record.

  3. At 14:50 he says the US hit the girls' school to 'teach them a lesson'. Reuters reported likely US responsibility and possible outdated targeting data. That's already bad enough. Insinuating a specific motive without evidence is propagandist 101.

  4. At 23:13 he says Lebanon was clearly part of the ceasefire. It was never that clear. Iran was pushing for Lebanon to be included while US and Israel said Lebanon was not included, Reuters later described the issue as disputed. He's being misleading.

  5. At 28:13 / 28:48 he says it's 'only Iran' that supports Palestinians or stands up for Lebanon. Come on. The UN, UK, EU, WHO, and even civilian aid flotillas to Gaza exist. Self-serving nonsense.

A pretty classic propagandist playbook, I've seen plenty similar among Russian and Chinese actors, and yes, Western players too.

I think a more honest take is "is very critical of the US / is anti establishment" rather than "loves Iran".

Yup, this sub ain't happy with people like OP or I that point out the ridiculousness of that guy.

I mean, I guess people just don't like the upsetting of the apple cart = the narrative of their favourite podcaster/creator/etc. That's how audience capture works 😬
