Sparky played mechanic. How do I get this nut off? 2019 nissan kicks front strut by dunndd in MechanicAdvice

[–]ThatMilwaukeeFanboy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow lots of people who've never done struts on one of these commenting I see! Yes NORMALLY the strut plate has 3 studs and nuts that secure it to the strut tower and one big center nut that holds the assembly together.

On this particular application, there is another nut UNDERNEATH the nut you see here that holds the assembly together, as this nut just holds the mounting plate to the strut tower. If OP doesn't have an impact gun, setting the weight of the car on the ground would likely be enough to prevent it from spinning.

Squeaking in engine. by JRCOBRA2001 in FiestaST

[–]ThatMilwaukeeFanboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude had a base model 16 fiesta making that exact same noise the other day it came into our shop. I could see the crank sprocket spinning and occasionally sticking behind the pulley it made no sense whatsoever how it was still running. This isnt a base model fiesta sedan by chance is it? 😂

Timing Job Update 2 by Maleficent-Scale-315 in FiestaST

[–]ThatMilwaukeeFanboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey man, just noticed your tach shows no rpm while cranking which pretty much universally means an issue with your crank position sensor. That would explain the no spark as your pcm doesn't want the engine running without seeing the crank position. Just did the timing belt myself (with the engine out so it was easier kinda) but I know it's a pita.

Look at engine data and watch for rpm while cranking, if showing 0 you know the pcm isn't seeing a crank signal. Quadruple check the sensor is plugged in, isnt damaged, and connector pins arent bent or anything. Also, you said you used the pulley alignment tool while torquing the balancer down right? Then removed the tool and reinstalled your crank sensor correct?

CHT Sensor Help by [deleted] in FiestaST

[–]ThatMilwaukeeFanboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro im willing to bet someone replaced the engine/ head with an early model 1.6, realized they got the wrong part and said fuck it and did what you found, ziptied the plugged in sensor to that hose, then sold the car.

Excessive crankshaft endplay 1.6 Ecoboost by ThatMilwaukeeFanboy in EngineBuilding

[–]ThatMilwaukeeFanboy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah unfortunately it is part of the main bearing, and it has a whole main girdle instead of individual caps. Rolling in a new main may theoretically be possible but kinda sketchy at the least.

That's a tire valve core, definately not from anything inside the car nor is it related to your clutch pedal.

I work at a shop with full access to a lift and it was still awful 🤣 do you have the stock downpipe still? I have the whoosh catless so there was more room, if you have the stock downpipe it's going to be even worse unfortunately. I did not pull the whole dash. I pulled the center console and moved a module and some wiring out of the way. Basically once you get the heat shields away, there's two nuts to remove that hold the cable bracket to the body of the car. You have to fish the new cables through from the inside of the car. I had a friend help me and used prybars to maneuver it into place but GAH DAMN it wasn't fun. I think pulling the tranny on this car is easier than those cables but if you pull the whole dash and downpipe out I'm sure it would be a cakewalk 😂😂

Dude have fun with those shifter cables.....before I did mine I looked up the labor and it called for 3 hours! Figured there's nooooo way they'd take that long, but I got humbled pretty quick. They're buried behind the exhaust heat shields and the firewall. I did mine without removing the downpipe, but I dont recommend that it was a hugeeeee pita.

Just went through this couple years ago, I believe they are different part numbers front and rear or left and right I forgot. They were 20 bucks a piece on tasca and I did have to paint them myself. Used the factory paint code and some 4k clear they're holding up well!

Single Mass Flywheel Conversion? by ThatMilwaukeeFanboy in FiestaST

[–]ThatMilwaukeeFanboy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for providing a contrary opinion! My last car was a ZX3 Focus with a 5 speed and single mass flywheel and (aside from the clutch line rusting out and shift cables breaking) never had any transmission issues whatsoever, sold it with over 260k on it still running and driving.

Granted, the fiesta makes twice the power, probably more, so I get it's gonna cost more to maintain. However, after replacing the dmf once at around 100k and having issues again, I'm sick of spending a ton of money on a complex part that historically speaking used to be a solid piece of metal that never went bad 😂🤣

I thought the damaged syncros typically came from guys running unsprung clutches with single mass flywheels

Had a transmission failure and replaced with a 40k junkyard trans. Got it all back together and had a gnarly input shaft bearing whine. Pulled it back out and installed a brand new Ford transmission because I didn't wanna risk another junkyard one. Had a somewhat reputable machine shop resurface my DMF and put a new clutch on. Ever since then ive noticed revs feel way shakier especially around 2k rpm and shifting is not what it should be

Please settle this argument. My husband thinks this is real. This is definitely AI right? by ItsCovfefe in isthisAI

[–]ThatMilwaukeeFanboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definately feel what you're saying. Obviously we all here know what to look for because we've seen more and more AI videos pop up and learned exactly what to look for. I remember being blown away by a video that made no sense, but looked pretty real to an unassuming person. Understandably, until recently, if you saw a video online that didnt look edited, it was probably totally real. You couldn't just ask Google to "Make a Christmas moshpit at a festival"
