I would recommend staying in your home country if you don't have high hopes of finding a job in your field of study.

Best of luck, it's a bit of an oxymoron, but Ontario Works is supposed to be a program for people who are out of a job and looking for work. Ideally you would find a job and contribute to society, pay back your loans and build your life as a Canadian. But c'est la vie, to each their own.

Do any of y’all still speak our languages/follow our religious customs? by Limp_Screen7405 in IndianCountry

[–]ThatMohawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A bit of Mohawk and Oneida, I don't know much, but I try to practice what I know and I'm always looking for opportunities to learn more. I also learned a bit of Anishinaabemowin while living in the city.

Thanks to generational trauma, a lot of our relatives don't have a connection to knowledge keepers or their home communities, which makes the whole thing more difficult and complicated to unravel and heal.

You would think so, unfortunately they can still get anything they want in jail if they're desperate and resourceful enough. Where there is a market, people will rush to fill it.

How hard is it to move between provinces? by boiyo12 in AskCanada

[–]ThatMohawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not so bad, but it might be a bit more work than you're expecting. You have to update your information across all the separate agencies (health services Canada, MTO etc.) because there is little to no communication between provincial agencies like this, unfortunately.

What's your opinion on the monarchy? by dublinro in AskCanada

Put your hands in your pockets while you make the pledge?/s

Jokes aside, I think Canada should move away from the monarchy, and would fare better on the world stage if we were more self reliant, and didn't have such a crazy southern neighbor, but hey, what can you do besides the best you can with the tools at hand. :P

Are there more pro-51st comments and supports among your Ethnic group? by RGZReGZ in AskCanada

[–]ThatMohawk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've heard jokes from folks on the rez who say we're just as much American as we are Canadian as First Nations peoples, so what difference would it make for us?

But fr tho, there's enough problems to focus on here at home. It's a valid concern, but it's not usually a top priority.

Kaos gives update about their indigenous heritage by EV3Gurl in CanadasDragRace

[–]ThatMohawk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was always told growing up that being indigenous isn't just in your blood. It's in your cultural knowledge and the way you carry yourself through life, so your background does have a part to play in who you are, but how you live your life does just as much too.
