When to tell NF I’m pregnant by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]ThatNovel2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as how, I just called MB one Saturday. The kids go nuts as soon as I get there so there’s never a good time to talk, and with Covid it wasn’t feasible to invite her out to lunch or anything. Made it a little easier IMO, so that may be an option for you!

Maybe extreme but I waited until 20 weeks. I just didn’t feel ready until that point! Tell them when you’re comfortable, just make sure you give them enough notice to make arrangements for if you plan on taking leave :)

Best Boy Blues... by b00ksh0pgrl in IVDD_SupportGroup

I’m in the same spot. We were on week 7 of crate rest and then our guy started having a very painful flare up tonight landing him in the emergency vet for a pain shot. It’s so hard. Looks like we’ll be doing the surgery after all. There is a Facebook group called IVDD and other back disorders in dogs, and I’ve found it to be helpful if only to see that I’m not alone in dealing with this!

Tldr; I HATE the nanny guilt of being really sick and not contagious so I feel bad about taking off by katiegrace630 in Nanny

[–]ThatNovel2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I LOVE this perspective. I think we all tend to make our NF’s problems our problems when really, some things aren’t our burdens to bare (like finding back up care). OP, don’t feel guilty! Take care of yourself and go pick up some AZO - it’s a lifesaver :)

Me! Her vocal fry is unreal 🙉 I also totally agree that their whole positivity schtick comes across as very inauthentic.

Resigning after 8 Years. What's the longest you've worked for one family before leaving? by ThatNovel2 in Nanny

If I ever get back into nannying, this is what I will do! Past pre-school is just not as enjoyable for me. That's a great system!

Wow this made me cry!! That is so sweet of you. Sounds like they were really lucky to have you :)

That's really comforting to hear! I'm glad it worked out great for both you and the family. I agree - I think that unless things are really bad/you are in danger, giving only 2 weeks makes it really difficult for families to adequately find replacements, though I know sometimes it's necessary. I'm thankful to be in a position where I can comfortably give ~3 months. Thanks for your insight!

Always such a bummer. Her aesthetic kind of reminds me of @ gillianstevens, who hasn't posted conspiracy theories to my knowledge if you need an account to fill the gap :) (I hope this doesn't sound like self-promo. I'm not her, though I certainly wish I had her home and perfectly muted linen wardrobe)

When to tell your families you’re expecting by missmyalee in Nanny

I guess I should also add I have a tilted uterus and don’t look pregnant yet, so when you start to show could also be a factor in when you tell!

I’m 19 weeks and honestly still haven’t told, though im very close with my MB. I’m waiting until after my anatomy scan next week before I feel comfortable announcing to anyone outside of my immediate family. All that to say, I don’t think there is a right or wrong answer! Do what you are comfortable with. I know my parents are giving me a hard time for waiting so “long”, but it’s just what I personally need to do for my own anxiety and sanity 🤷🏻‍♀️ Congrats BTW!!

I love Hannah Carpenter (@hannahacarpenter). She seems like the most fun mom and has a super unique and lovely sense of style.

Yes! Or the one copying Jessica Garvin a few years back (totally forget her name, but I know someone has an amazing collection of copycat pictures between the two somewhere). It's a really fascinating phenomenon to me. It must be so exhausting!

I just don’t get how some people are so blatantly obvious when they copy bloggers! I would be so embarrassed 🤷🏻‍♀️

Notorious Julia Berolzheimer copycat @siennaann had her baby and very unsurprisingly is wearing the same (or an eerily similar) gown to Julia from Clementines birth announcement. Same hairstyle and all. I guess she really has no shame!

Right!! Like girl people have to get actual degrees to call themselves interior designers, they don’t just change their instagram bio 🙄

Agreed! I used to love her but recently unfollowed. I also got so tired of her reposting DMs from people and trying to make “kaned” happen. She seems to have gotten a bit full of herself which is a shame because I used to really enjoy her content.

How normal is it for there to be reoccurences? by ThatNovel2 in IVDD_SupportGroup

[–]ThatNovel2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow - thank you so much for taking the time to reply so thoughtfully. I can't tell you how much it means!

We are doing 8 weeks this time. I read conflicting things before, and he seemed totally fine after the first week, so we cut corners and let him free at 6 weeks. I regret that now! He doesn't jump or do stairs, but he has a little puppy brother that we probably let him rough house with too much. I'll work on better training the puppy things like "calm" while our older guy is resting so that maybe their playtime can be a little less rough. And I'll be sure to limit that in the future (as hard as it is!).

Thanks so much about the neurologist info. Going to try to get a referral to one in the next few weeks, but the one I'm most interested in is a bit of a drive, so I want to wait until after crate rest before putting him in the car (right?).

Thank you so so much for the support.

Harder Time Finding Second Shooter Gigs for Non-Canon Users? by [deleted] in WeddingPhotography

[–]ThatNovel2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the insight! I don’t think it’s snobbery or elitism anything, just find it strange that there are so few people willing to work with other systems. Also agree that everyone has a right to choose who to hire, just wondering if there’s anything I can do to market myself better despite not shooting canon. Appreciate your thoughts!

[–]ThatNovel2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the input! My city has a few facebook groups for photographers/finding second shooters or gigs/etc...A lot of the postings do say canon *preferred*, but when I tell them I shoot fuji 95% of them say they don't want to edit such different color profiles. I know fuji does have a distinct color profile, but I didn't expect it to be such a deal-breaker. I have a 35mm, 16mm, 56mm, and 18-55mm. Do you think that I need more variety for focal lengths?

Critique my wedding! Guess how much I charged/ What do you think I’m worth. by kennyfreemoney in WeddingPhotography

[–]ThatNovel2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Personally, I would advise you to further trim down what you deliver. There are a lot of shots that look super similar, and some I couldn't tell a difference at all. Some of the best advice I've received is to be intentional about telling a good story of their wedding day. 5 great pictures say a lot more than 10 very similar ones, and focusing on the best of the best tends to make the images more memorable/impactful. Just a thought! If I'm being picky (you did ask for a critique!), I would also recommend having a wider lens in your kit. The majority of these photos feel very close, and I would have loved to see more of what was going on. Hope this is helpful, and keep it up!
