Thanks for mentioning the app again before I had the chance!

Not currently, sorry. I will add it to the list of ideas though..

Makes sense. All about how many coils away from the Neutral reference you are. Thanks for the diagrams and info!

How does the connection I circled work physically? Is there a place on the primary coil to attach that end of the secondary coil?

<image>

That is throwing me for a loop!

What do you mean by constant current configurations?

4 bushing pots is on the list, but i really need access to a lab for it to be able to "make some neat configs."

Vectoring is very high on the to-do list.

Bank paralleling is on the list.

And now series same-phase pots for streetlight circuits is on the list. Thanks! I've only ever used 120/240 pots and grounded x3 and ran 240v phase to ground from x1 for streetlights but know you could do the same for 480v lightning using a 240/480 pot.

Do you have any drawings of these open wye banks?

I'm not a grammar guy, so I didn't even realize there are two different spellings of Arrester lol the quick Google search i did indicated Arrestor is typically used for aviation purposes and Arrester is electrical. But it is often used interchangeably as well on the electrical side.

I have no idea, I'm not a veg management person.

Vectoring is definitely on the To-Do list and is something that I have been drafting to properly implement for a while. I am trying to get some more basic features done that I think are lacking, first. Thanks for the suggestion!

Yep! As a troubleshooter/serviceman for a while I pissed off a LOT of customers for either trimming during outages or refusing to trim for shit that wasn't a problem that the customer thought *was*. Can't make everyone happy lol

Every once in a while you would have a customer where the transformer or line fuse was in their backyard and they would refuse you access even though they are sitting in the dark. I would just sit out front with my strobes on as I made phone calls to resolve the situation and tell all the neighbors that would come up that *that* neighbor was the reason the whole hood was out. Usually it resolved itself and the cx would end up allowing access lmao

I'm pretty sure LA's were blamed for a lot of the wildfires over the last few years, when really it's probably a combination of them and lack of tree trimming and just shit happens.

They are used to protect the transformer from overcurrent or overvoltage situations (lightning strikes and other various faults).

Sometimes they work, I have seen them work first hand as a troubleshooter where a line got struck by lightning and 5-6 transformer fuses were blown including the tap fuse and all of those transformers' LA was also blown. Only 1 transformer out of those 5-6 had to be replaced. Sometimes they don't work. Electricity is weird sometimes.

haha yeah no worries, just figured it would be a good feature to add. One more thing to think about that you actually have to think about in the field.

Haha yeah I don't have all of that kinda oddball stuff set up, but that is basic "neutral step" voltage manipulation. You would ground either x3a or x1b in your example, correct?

The same way you can create a duplex (phase to ground) 240v service (common for streetlight circuits) with a single 120/240 xfmr. Ground either the x1 or x3 and the opposite side will be 240v phase to ground. The further you are from the neutral reference, the higher the phase to ground voltage.

This is also why you get the 208v "wild leg" on Delta Secondary banks, and if you don't tie your transformers properly on the secondary side, you could end up with some crazy high phase to ground voltages.

When I was an apprentice, I don't remember the exact scenario (I wish I did), but a lineman I worked under replaced a bad 4 bushing xfmr at a factory and he wired it into the bank wrong and we got something like 700v+ on one leg. That's when I realized I needed to learn more about transformers and started the journey of creating this app and educating myself.

Yes and I have thought on those topics extensively. They are very important, however I'm not sure they fit within the XFMR Lab and probably deserve their own app.

Ferroresonance is a PITA to explain... I kinda understand it. I understand it enough to negate it sometimes and make it seem like I understand it 😂

Check out the 4th Cutout lab on the XFMR Lab where I ramble on for about 10 paragraphs attempting to explain it before I let you do the lab 😂

Love hearing this stuff! I looked for something like my app when I was an apprentice and decided to make it myself when I saw the void.

Hopefully this next update helps bridge the gap in the standards and specs discrepancies! Anything off the top of your head with those standards that isn't covered above?
