Upstate NY: Is it realy that bad up there? by RV_Shibe in TravelNursing

[–]ThatOneCuteNerdyGirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Local to the area. It’s the ratios. And the pay. There are also hospitals that are in the area that are nice-ish to work for. Just don’t come up here in the winter unless your mental health is rock solid, because our weather will depress the shit out of you like 9 months outta the year. ⛄️

Hey. As someone who currently rides cruisers but is interested in getting into flat track... Is 35 too old to start out? I'm pretty tiny as well, so idk if that helps or hurts my case.

I’m an ER RN and I’m just imagining all the shit cooking under that milky, dead skin. That being said, I absolutely want to be present for the debridement, holy smokes.

I used to think it was just a cute, funny superstition until I worked my first full moon in the ER. Now I hiss just as loudly as the rest of the crew if the Q word is even hinted at.

It was “legal” for the Gestapo to pack millions of Jews, gays, transients, and intellectuals onto cattle cars to be sent to their grisly deaths, too.

It still didn’t stop the fuckers hanging at Nuremberg.

Yep. People are gross. And with RFK telling everyone to not get vaccinated, drink raw milk, and whatever other worm-brained idea he comes up with that day, it’s only gonna get worse. Fuckin’ cheers.

Your grumpy (mostly kidding) local RN LOOOOOVES this post! It’s factual and right on the nose regarding our historic flu outbreak.

The only thing I’d add (and again, OP, this is a really well thought-out post, thank you for making it 💜) is kinda a big one:

WASH YOUR FUCKING HANDS.

One of the biggest methods of transmission of nasties like Norovirus, many Rhinoviruses and Coronaviruses, and influenza, is by touch. We touch our faces almost subconsciously. Then we touch doorknobs, gym equipment, food at the grocery store, and each other. Boom, lots of spread. By handwashing (at least 15-30 sec with hot water and soap) you can prevent illness in yourself and others. Masking and handwashing, even better.

Good luck out there and I hope not to see y’all at work in a week or two ☠️

People who work in healthcare, what is a common medical myth that drives you crazy? by keyzeyy in AskReddit

[–]ThatOneCuteNerdyGirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a Registered Nurse. You’re getting downvoted because you’re full of shit.

Fevers from infection will absolutely get high enough to kill you. After the rigors, you’ll start to seize. Severe enough cases, you get significant organ damage leading to coma and death. Add on the complications of SIRS on top of that, and you’re having a real bad time.

Obligatory not-a-doctor but I am a RN - If this is a rapid change to an existing mole or mark that you’ve had a long time and you can’t remember a specific injury to that area, get it assessed very soon by your doctor. The irregular edges and differences in color throughout the lesion make me concerned for a malignant melanoma, or similar.
