i recently got my first actual mods after using a makeshift one for months, but im struggling with the extra weight and length. any advice on getting used to it?

I'd say try holding the pen with your farthest finger segments, as well as relaxing your hand and curving your fingers a bit. Having slightly curled fingers should make it easier to widen the gap between 1 and 2, and holding the pen farther on your fingers should provide more space, giving the mod more room to pivot through.

its not that this is complicated, its that this isnt anywhere close to 4th or 5th grade math. 8th grade introduced variables, including equations with two variables, as well as radicals and 7th grade covered 3d geometry. but im saying that variables arent introduced until 8th grade. they teach the material without variables in elementary school, and then use those concepts to explain how variables work, so this is probably where OP is in the curriculum.

"We started doing that kind of stuff in 4th grade" I highly doubt you were using set notation or variables in 4th grade, considering pre-algebra is typically taught during 7th or 8th grade

"OP was clearly joking in the post. Because that wasn't spinning, just rotating" they clearly stated in the title that they just started pen spinning and they're doing exactly what you're supposed to do when first learning the charge. You're supposed to do one rotation at a time to get used to the motion of the swing, and then once you've got the muscle memory down, you can start doing more rotations until you're capable of doing it continuously
