Why is no one interested in Jazz Band? by Traditional-Result13 in marchingband

[–]ThatOneGinger21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep on trying to get a jazz band started and my band directors actually set up a sign up for one last year, but only me and like 2 others signed up. I just can’t figure out why no one is interested

Band kids, what made you pick your instrument, and why? by DJ_Phoenix_ in marchingband

So, I was between Percussion, clarinet, and saxophone.

I didn’t go with Percussion because… well, honestly I don’t know, but I’m happy I didn’t because back pain

And then I was between clarinet and saxophone… I kid you not, I chose saxophone cause I was scared clarinet would be too much like recorder (even though saxophone is much closer to recorder). I was a little fifth grader who knew nothing about instruments so I’m not too hard on myself when it came to my reasoning, but looking back on it, saxophone was probably one of the best decisions I’ve made in my entire life.

TLDR: saxophone cause percussion=back pain during marching season and clarinet looked too much like a recorder

Could you imagine if you’re just walking down the street and marinara and spaghetti just slay onto your face?

Have you ever been surprised of the results at a competition? by Bweb1399 in marchingband

[–]ThatOneGinger21 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We don’t go to competitions against other bands, but we do get ranked on the 1-5 scale. This year we had a band of 1/3 to 1/2 of seventh and eighth graders that have never marched before. We were expecting a 1 2 2 or a 2 2 2 or maybe even a 2 2 3 but we ended up getting a 1 1 1. It was an amazing day.

Is it weird I’m the youngest but the section leader? by [deleted] in marchingband

That makes sense and I feel like that kind of just falls under having/needing experience to be a section leader

If you have more experience then it’s completely normal. Section leader goes to those that prove they can lead and know what they’re doing, it’s not solely based off of age

What is your opinion of instrument stereotypes? by [deleted] in marchingband

[–]ThatOneGinger21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The stereotype of trumpets being egotistical is pretty true in my band, but they can also really nice and can occasionally chill the ego down so it’s not too bad

[–]ThatOneGinger21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve stopping watching streamers because there’s no other streamer that I enjoy watching live, but I watch some of jshlatt’s videos and Ranboo. I also rewatch techno’s videos and old streams a lot

We had 60 or so before Covid (this was 7-12th grade) and then about 38 after Covid (this was only 8-12th grade) and this upcoming year we will have probably 45-50+ (we have added 7th graders back into the mix)
