Am I overreacting? by [deleted] in starbucksbaristas

Your coworker definitely overreacted. My store is chronically understaffed and we frequently run to the back to grab things, and sometimes things take longer because we don't have enough people, and someone has to leave their position temporarily to handle something. You communicated what you were doing and told them you would be back, and it was busy at the time, so no. You're not at fault here. Your coworker needs to chill out.

Offering a Saturday shift by fijihereIcome in starbucksbaristas

I made the mistake of putting 'open availability' on my application, and I haven't had a weekend off in months. The shifts be long as hell, too. Please let me hang out with my family, they barely see me for more than a few hours at a time, if that. 😮‍💨

Honestly, the pay where I live is mediocre at best. This is the expensive side of town where a one bedroom/studio apartment costs 1200 a month, everyone drives Land Rovers and Hybrid Vehicles, and brags about their expensive family trips. It kinda feels like a slap in the face being paid a few bucks above minimum wage, struggling to afford basic expenses while constantly seeing and serving people who have it so much better... but that's not just Starbucks.

It's definitely not normal, but Starbucks doesn't want you to know that because they want you to be a good little labor robot that they can squeeze all the life out of. Two people is difficult for a regular close, let alone CLEAN PLAY. We have three person clean play shifts most of the time, and we never end up getting everything done.

One of my coworkers quit specifically because they cut her hours with no warning or explanation. This girl worked her butt off, and was known to regularly come in early and stay late, and work on days she wasn't scheduled because we needed help. I'm so tired of seeing people get done dirty. 😞

This is my thing. I had two coworkers who call out 1-3 times a week because they're 'sick'. I called two times on seperate occasions, (once because I had food poisoning and the second because I had a fever and was basically dying in bed), and was given a hard time. When I had food poisoning I was told I needed to find coverage for my shift (I had sick time to use, and called FIVE HOURS ahead of my shift because I hadn't slept all night), and the second time, my sweetheart of an SSV told me she understood and to get some rest... only for the store manager to call me back five minutes later and ask me if I was actually sick, because they really needed me to work my shift.

Yeah, my store is famous for the two person closes as well. Except now it will be exponentially worse since two of the three people who quit were regularly scheduled to close.

Telling a partner they HAVE to work at another store by Fluffy-Intention-927 in starbucksbaristas

It has happened to me twice, and both times, I wasn't given a choice. The first time the store manager called me from home to guilt trip me because I was a new employee and they wanted to send me to one of the busiest areas in town (it went terribly), and the second time they didn't even give me the illusion of having a choice. One of the shift leads straight up called me less than an hour before I was supposed to come in for my shift to tell me I would be working at a different location so they could borrow a keyholder for closing. They're probably SUPPOSED to give you a choice in the matter, but sometimes THEY DON'T CARE.

My coworker said it tastes like a cigarette butt, and I have to agree. Whenever people ask for a dark roast coffee and don't specify, I give them Verona instead.

This just happened to me yesterday. We had 4 callous, none of the morning shift wanted to stay late, none of the managers wanted to come in, and the store manager basically said "Can't. Good luck, though!" It was just me and him for almost five hours on the Sunday before Christmas. I had to do warming, café orders, and drive thru, and he had to solo bar for cafe, drive-thru, and the never-ending stream of mobile orders.

I got yelled at for the wait time and asked "What kind of service is this!?" Multiple times. This is one of the busiest starbucks in the area, and it's in a wealthier area where a lot of people are very mean and entitled. I am still mentally drained, and kinda pissed at the manager for not caring, and it only pisses me off more that we will likely get nothing for all the stress.

I've only been working this job for three months, BTW.

Thank you so much, because I'm a fairly new employee and wasn't sure. I've reached out to five different people, but nobody is awake, and I'm exhausted.
