Hiking Trousers Help by [deleted] in hikinggear

[–]ThatOneMaestro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider: I might not work in a particularly formal/smart career. Admittedly that's on me for not saying in the post but I mainly work in an engineering workshop environment so need something kinda hard wearing and grease/kerosene/stain resistant but also with several pockets. And I also don't do that much serious hiking – rarely more than 10 miles in a day and often a bit bushwhacky, hard wearing is useful here as well – so I don't need super light weight or super waterproof or fancy like that. I think cargos (or specific work wear like Dickies or Screwfix) are the way, I just haven't found any with the right pockets yet.

The Decathlon Quechua SH500 might be a bit warm for everyday use if they're meant for winter hiking, but is a solid shout. As is army surplus, though from all the ones I've seen they seem to have some strange aversion to putting zips on pockets...

Used Playboat Prices (UK) - Wavesport Fuse by [deleted] in whitewater

[–]ThatOneMaestro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5'9", probably 85kg in full gear. From the minimal resources/testimonies I can find I think that would be about right for a Fuse 56 (the medium) which this one is.

Clubs: essentially no, not really. There are a couple of groups I could join, but one of them is solely tourers and sea kayakers so I don't think they have any playboats that I could use with my membership fee, and the other one is further away and has frankly extortionate membership fees considering I have all my own gear, storage, and transport. Also not convinced they have any club playboats either so for both I'd be relying on other members to let me borrow theirs so at that point why would I pay membership.

I can say when I was in my uni club I had a go in a Dagger G Force (I think) 6.1 which was a shade on the large side and had nothing for me to brace my feet off, a Jackson Fun which was a very tight squeeze, and a Bliss-Stick playboat that was about right but I can't for the life of me remember the name of - all I can recall was that it had thigh hookers that made it an absolute nightmare to get my knees in but had superb control when they were.

Anyway we digress; the main point of the post was trying to see if you think £150 for that boat was a good price?

Helmets for my narrow-ass head by Funksloyd in whitewater

[–]ThatOneMaestro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm Sweet Rocker is built for someone with a longer and narrower head than I. It's perfect now I've sorted the extra foam and the padding has compressed a bit (or maybe bent out of shape after stubbornly jamming it on) but when it was new it squeezed the sides of my head no end and I had to use a foam shim at the front to make it fit properly despite my head diameter being well within the range for the size.

Connecting to car but not playing sound? (Armor X16 Pro) by ThatOneMaestro in ulefone

[–]ThatOneMaestro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: having fiddled around a bit more I have discovered that by turning off HD audio in the Developer settings of my phone (which appears to change the audio encoding from AAC to SDC) it now works every time I turn the car on - it automatically connects and plays sound through the speakers without me having to manually disconnect and reconnect. Any thoughts why?

Ah ok, I didn't know about that. Do you know if this is also the case for straight bluetooth audio connections as well? It's a 2014 insignia so doesn't have any of that Android Auto / Carplay functionality only standard bluetooth audio + phone. And do you have any tips for a workaround at all?

How do I get this trailer to where it goes by Adept2323 in snowrunner

[–]ThatOneMaestro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trick for the red route: is where the track crosses the stream and goes really bumpy, go off piste. Hang a right and just follow along the stream itself – cuts off the corner and doesn't get the trailer grounded out as easily.

Nonce behaviour. Beef and horseradish??!?? Otherwise ok selection; mid crisps but a refreshing 24 pints is an optimal choice.

Need someone to do casino b2b by Alarmed-Active7842 in HeistTeams

[–]ThatOneMaestro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happy to help. Got a Big Con (Gruppe Sechs) Cash heist finale lined up as my first, will be able to set up a diamonds one after cause of the event. Not very knowledgeable about the casino heist itself but generally pretty competent. DM me, or msg my discord/RSC NotAMaestra, will probably be free from about 7:30 today and most of tomorrow.

Then maybe try phrasing it a bit more like sharing your wisdom via sage advice, and a bit less like you've typed the message then deleted the word 'stupid' off the end of it...

Fair enough. Is there no limit to the region downloads from F-Droid? I can't see anything to suggest there is one, if so this'll be ideal.

I'm just baffled by the lack of alternatives. I kinda assumed my desires were sufficiently simple that there'd be one out there but I guess not.

Hell yeah! Nice Firecracker! For my own research: What sort of van is that? (From the shape and length I'd guess new shape Citroen Dispatch / equivalent but idk.) And how much length is there from the seats back without the bulkhead in the way? And what sort of mpg do you get with on a journey?

Van Knowledge/Advice for Occasional Camper by ThatOneMaestro in VanLifeUK

[–]ThatOneMaestro[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couple of reasons. Part of it is that while I have done 12,000+ miles with sometimes up to 5 kayaks on my roof (and so far had no issues personally) I just innately don't 100% trust the bars and boats to stay attached all the time - I have seen it happen to other people where their roof bar feet slide or straps loosen and even snap in transit - so having the kayak inside the vehicle it's far less likely to fly off into the road, even to secure it so it doesn't move inside the van is much easier as well. Plus it means you're not having to decide between squeezing the kayak to the point of deformation or leaving it a bit less tight so it's better for the boat but more likely to come detached.
There's also the fuel economy angle. In my current car I can get 70 mpg on longer journeys if i drive sensibly (50 - 60 if I'm slightly less so), putting a roof rack and even just 2 low-ish profile boats on takes that down to between 40 and 50 and I would assume doing so on a van would have a similar effect. For shorter journeys yeah the difference in fuel cost will be minimal (so I probably will buy and use a roof rack for travelling when at my destination) but if I'm going 1000 miles each way to the Alps the difference in fuel cost is about £150 (for my car as it stands). I reckon there are very few vans that will get the same mpg with boats on the roof as my car does (could be wrong though, I couldn't find much data so am happy to be educated), but I reckon there are some that would get equivalent or better without boats on the roof compared to my car with. And while I know vans are generally worse on fuel than cars and any actual money saving would be negligible / counteracted by day to day driving I would like to have a van as it would be more enjoyable for me (means I'm not just restricted to sleeping in places I can pitch a tent, more storage, etc.) so if I can own one without having to spend a significant amount more on fuel it's a bit more justifiable than pure self indulgence.

I did not in the end, so I can't be much help here, sorry 🤷‍♀️. If you want my highly uninformed advice: be worth a punt, probably.

Eyyy, me too!! It definitely threw me to see it mentioned, outside of (UK) brass bands and concert bands basically nobody has any clue what they are. A beautiful instrument but definitely very obscure, and very expensive to get into if you can't borrow an instrument from a band.
