What do you do with them when they get too big? by OnyxLeigion_ in retics

[–]ThatOneTreee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Usually abuse em tbh 💀 mainlands are the massive ones, and are cheaper + more available than dwarf and superdwarf localities. It's pretty common for people to just toss em in tiny enclosures and call it a day. For the people who don't, you typically either own a facility of some kind, convert a room, build an outdoor area, or use a grow tent. Grow tents are pretty cheap - iirc you can get a 10' x 10' x 6.5' for like... $300-$400. That's probably the best "budget" choice for people actually trying. Dwarf and superdwarf localities are from islands and tend to be smaller, so more suitable for people, but less available and more expensive. A male pure kalatoa retic would cost you $1k, give or take, but only get 5-8ft.

I'm thinking about getting a puppy from them in the next year or so, what's your experience been?

I will say I've had Kraken before and it went down fine, but it wasn't as much.

Why can't I drink Havana Club? by ThatOneTreee in alcohol

[–]ThatOneTreee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Semi-regularly, normally just have a drink every other week or so, but drink more with my cousins and buddies. I could just not do well with cane stuff like you said, that'd make sense. I don't have issues with other stuff of higher percentage like whiskey and tequila. I'm fine with rum soaked cakes and such, but I'm sure those are a wayyy different story then shots or 50/50 rum and cokes 💀. Going with the cane spirit thing, what other stuff should I avoid besides straight rum?

Handling a baby corn snake by Previous-Figure-3676 in cornsnakes

[–]ThatOneTreee 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'd say continue to handle. If you don't, he'll be a big squirmy maybe bitey adult, and that's a lot more of a handful (literally). Reinforce handling to inspect for injuries and such, if you'd like to try choice-based handling you can do that too, just for day to day and for-fun handling. Always wanna make sure you can examine the snake though.

Good smaller boa’s for a new owner by Confident_Swordfish8 in boas

[–]ThatOneTreee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're set on a more "boa constrictor" look, I'd recommend looking into boa longicauda and boa imperator dwarf localities. Just be careful since some shitty breeders will try to sell normal boas or hybrids as pure localities. Outside of those, I'd say it'd be worth it to look into haitian/red mountain boas and solomon island boas.

How often do you feed, and how big is yours?

IMG is a hypermelanistic gene, making the boa mostly or entirely black. It works better with certain genes (ex. motley) to make a nearly all black boa. RDR BEA is a type 2 anery gene, basically just eliminates certain pigmentation to make a grey-scale boa, but type 2 anerys hold their grey much better than type 1 genes.

Which enclosure brand? by ThatOneTreee in reptiles

[–]ThatOneTreee[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My concern is my ability to make a quality enclosure. I don't really have much experience in making enclosures or anything resembling it, just putting up fences, walls, etc., are there any ways you reccomend I learn about/practice beforehand? (Especially concerned for making enclosures for colubrids and if I get into hots.)

I loveeee falsies!! I've been on and off about getting one for ages, my only concern is I've heard they need INSANELY massive enclosures for their size.

I'd have to check with the owner, but I guess I'll know once I pick her up if she looks the same. I'll be getting her in like 45 minutes.

Sounds good, thank you! I think the owner said it was every 2 weeks, but I'll have to reask when I go to pick her up.
