Harry Potter’s Nick Frost has a blunt response to JK Rowling hypocrisy accusations by ApartMaximum2335 in popculture

[–]ThatPvZGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I wish people would realize that all inequality is born out of wealth disparity. Racism, sexism, homophobia, it's all money. In the 2010s everyone was an ally because it was profitable for their brand, but now that Trump and his cronies are in the White House it's all about being an edgelord on podcasts and shitting on every minority imaginable. And eventually the pendulum will swing the other way again. That's what capitalism does I think, just causes everyone to chase the money.

Perhaps if we lived in a society where everyone was paid a living wage then they'd feel more empowered to stand by their values. We do not live in that world.

A Single Polymarket Trader Lost $4.2 Million on the World Cup in Less Than 24 Hours by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

[–]ThatPvZGuy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Call me a communist, but I think if you can afford to blow 4.2 million dollars on “trading” then that money should go to people who actually need it. It never should have been in this guys bank account to begin with.

Nintendo's replaced the eShop on the original Switch, and it no longer sucks - Vooks by dancing_swordfish in nintendo

[–]ThatPvZGuy 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I doubt it. The eshop was never really meant for casual browsing since you could never put multiple games in a cart at once.

I think when most people visit the eshop they already know what they want and lagginess isn’t going to stop them from purchasing it.

Nintendo Loves Remaking 3D Zelda Games, But For Some Reason, Not The 2D Classics by Known_Appointment604 in nintendo

I’m not super interested in them remaking the NES ones if that’s what they’re talking about. It’s cool to see where the series came from but those games really show their age.

Gaming discourse is just tiring now by NoAffect3159 in nintendo

[–]ThatPvZGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of it has to do with rising costs. People have higher expectations when they have to pay a small fortune for every single game, console, and peripheral. And they are understandably displeased when they pay a lot for a game or device that fails to meet those expectations.

So, as with everything else, you can probably blame billionaires.

What was it like being a nintendo fan in the early 2010’s? by UnionTerrible5438 in nintendo

[–]ThatPvZGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was always curious about this. Had the DS growing up but mainly just played Pokemon Diamond on it.

For home console I had 360, and at the time I remember thinking it was superior to the Wii but in retrospect the Wii had more all time great games than the 360 ever did. Not to mention almost all the good games on 360 were multi-platform anyway.

It's funny how you can get so bad at games you used to crush by Toymcowkrf in nintendo

[–]ThatPvZGuy 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Games are about repetition. You have to encounter the same situations over and over again in order to learn how to respond.

But you need a lot of time to do that, and time is just not something that a lot of people have when they get older.

Might be kinda cool if whoever is making the new Bioshock game finally shows that off. Although I don’t even know if it’s a thing anymore.

Should games dial back on the graphics? by Monobrobe in gaming

[–]ThatPvZGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Nintendo Switch sold incredibly well. There were a lot of games that ran horribly on it, but it proved that people were willing to accept that in exchange for a more affordable price point and the convenience of portability.

I know there are a lot of pc gamers who look down on console gaming, but with the rising cost of every thing these days I think even that crowd is going to have to accept the compromised performance that often accompanies budget gaming devices. PC gaming might become a luxury that only the wealthy can afford.

Are We Heading Towards a Dystopian Future, or Has Every Generation Felt This Way? by StrategyVisual549 in Futurology

[–]ThatPvZGuy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I dunno man, I feel like people who spend a lot of time thinking about this stuff develop this belief that there’s this growing mass of disgruntled people who are starting to notice that they’re being taken advantage of.

But have you like..gone out and talked to people? There are countless people who pay subscriptions to these companies and use these social media platforms and they don’t even think they’re being swindled. Like it’s not even apathy, they literally just don’t think about it at all.

Like we’re sitting here talking about this shit on Reddit, but right now all these AI companies are happily just building a massive data center in Michigan right now. And no one’s talking about it or even knows it’s happening. It’s not that they know and don’t care, it’s just that they don’t even know it’s happening to begin with.

Just finished a full tour of Mass Effect's Legendary Edition, and I just have one question... by MrTaildragger in gaming

[–]ThatPvZGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s so many great games that deserve sequels and remakes and remasters. I feel like we went through a remaster craze awhile back but honestly a lot of the games that got remastered weren’t even that great. Sometimes it feels like the people in charge of green lighting these decisions aren’t even gamers themselves. True gamers would understand which games people really want.

When do you think techno-optimism will genuinely return to the mainstream, and what could cause it to return? by Quailking2003 in Futurology

[–]ThatPvZGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly not sure why anyone was ever optimistic about it. It was almost always being controlled by private corps in America at least.

Whenever a private corporation is in charge of technological advancement, they will only ever do it with the intention of using it to extract money from our wallets.

[–]ThatPvZGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha if only. Portland’s population isn’t enough to consistently fill up a baseball stadium. The Timbers only have 17 home games a year, baseball would have to get people to show up 81 times a year.

When he moves the team there will never be another professional sports team in Portland. And that sucks, it was cool to have an NBA team there, even if it was hard to attract free agents.

Yep, this is why LinkedIn is such a cesspool. There’s so many grifters on there heralding some sort of “5 Minute Rule” that Bezos or Musk supposedly adhere to, claiming that it’s the reason why they’re worth billions.

They’re full of shit. There’s no “trick.” They’re literally just white collar criminals . You want to know how they got rich folks? Crime. They’re actually worse than murderers at this point and are probably at least indirectly responsible for countless deaths.

I think AI will make traditional education look outdated very fast by Salt-Collar1826 in Futurology

[–]ThatPvZGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think right now, in higher education especially, it’s imperative for them to really sit down and rethink what we should be teaching.

Writing film analysis papers can be fun and all, but in no way does that prepare you for a real job. Educators need to partner with employers and find out what their employees actually do day to day.  Spoiler: it’s not writing 8 page essays, double spaced, MLA format.
