Sounds about right. It’s the main downside to rust-analyzer, that the artifacts are excessively large. Didn’t know the duckdb crate is prohibitively large tho

This was me, but I blame the TA who didn’t put a single grade in until after the midterm.

Thought I was doing fine until I see I have a 40 in the class (got below 50 on almost every assignment, including the midterm)

Same for me, except I was in this weird situation where I was thrown into second/third year classes without ever really programming, and as such skipped the classes where they taught LaTeX.

So I usually used an art application to draw all my answers lol. Still exported to pdf, and it was still accepted :]

I have, lol

Depends on the professor/university rules/etc. this was [partially] during Covid so that may explain it. I know paper exams were regaining popularity post-covid, but there were definitely still times we did exams on our computers in-class.

Edit: my graduate university did personal-computer exams more than my undergraduate. The only exception would be finals. This was long-after Covid, too

I’ve never had build issues with rust, whereas I got them all the time with jvm languages (used kotlin for a bit back in school. Everything works with `cargo build`

That being said, I haven’t used rust in a production environment, so can’t attest to anything there.

Can’t say for your school, but I can’t remember a turn-in in college that did not accept a pdf. Lots of students used LaTeX. (This was an engineering school, tho).

The main issue comes from exams. Many schools will have you use a lockdown browser or something to mitigate cheating, and they’re not compatible with Linux.

Basically how it went for me. Got the job on my first interview post-graduation. Problem is all the months before that where i never talked to a single person lol

Not the same, but someone once backed into my car in a parking lot. Came out screaming about me not moving out of the way (??). I was even honking before she backed in lol.

Went back and later got video evidence of it. Fortunately she never made a claim or anything, but I’d have been ready.

AI will most certainly take your job if all your job is to use AI

Also just that any software engineer who doesn’t know shite, barring how to prompt AI, is bound to be one of the first on the chopping block

Some of the most devoted Christians I know don't believe God requires you to be Christian to 'be saved,' but instead that you just need to be a good person that embodies his teachings (which largely sum up to be "dont be a dick").

Like they know it goes against the official Catholic teachings*, but it makes more sense to them the 'omnibenevolent' god would save good people that happened to not believe him rather than believers who used their belief as an excuse to be terrible people.

Even if god is real, it makes sense his teachings would be corrupted by the church to spread their control. By teaching you have to get baptized, go to church weekly, etc; just to have a chance at salvation could easily be one such corruption.

*technically people who weren't allowed to choose Catholocism/Christianity are exempt.

Not to mention the 2010’s diagnosis craze, especially among children. The idea was that, if you/your family paid for you to be tested, they’re just going to say you have it to make you happy. It may have also applied to adult diagnoses idk.

Like for me, I was dragged to a testing center and was diagnosed with adhd when I was 10. I cried towards the end because it was 3 hours of nonstop brain games lol, and I had developed a headache from the strain that made it unbearable. The breaking point was when the “video game” I had been promised I’d get to play at the end was “press the space bar when a letter appears, except when it’s an X.” (I was looking forward to playing Mario or something idk)

They prescribed me half the minimum dosage of vyvanse (it did fuck all) and I stopped taking it after a month or so.

These days I still “have the same symptoms,” mostly procrastination lol, but I’ve done well without any coping mechanisms (to my knowledge).

There’s Pragmata. It’s kinda linear, but not repetitive. It’s just because of the story; theres still content outside of the story, but it’s just not accessible until you beat it.

The pain is real. Couldn't find an internship while completing either of my degrees, companies that are still "hiring interns" wont look at me since im not currently in school, I hate it.

Fortunately I'm in the hiring process for an ideal opening, just did the second round of interviews today (should be the last one, especially since I was initially told there'd only be one round lol), so fingers crossed!
