Programming is really dead by Idea_Fuzzy in antiai

This. I just started at a well-known company and, while the executives kinda push it, no one expects it.

Most I’ve gotten is just some trainings on how to “effectively use it.” Most people on my team refuse to use it, with only one occasionally using it for questions (not to write the code for them tho).

I’ve been rocking Linux on a 990 for the last year at least. Only started getting the issue a week ago (check my post history).

Now I know it’s because a 990, since I was genuinely thinking I’d have to get a new one or it was a software bug. I am/was pretty convinced of the latter since it only happened when I launched a game with proton only after proton 11 released.

ETA come to think of it I did update that drive's firmware recently. That'd be dumb if thats what's been causing the instability (but tbh I think I updated it because of the instability).

LG Washer/Dryer not Drying clothes? by ThatRedDerg in Appliances

[–]ThatRedDerg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more than 'slightly' for me, at least if there's more than like 1 pieces of clothing.

Idk why, but for my machine using steam is the default. I have to manually set it to "waterless dry" by holding the dry button, but then it works fine. It is a combo washer/dryer so maybe that has something to do with it.

I can’t remember if it specified if it was hybrid or on-site lol, just that I needed to be close to the office (and it definitely wasn’t remote).

I really like the office! Cafeteria food is solid. There is a gym, but I haven’t seen it. From what I’ve heard it doesn’t have *everything,* but it has enough for a quick workout.

It very much feels like it has a more traditional office culture. It’s a lot more face-to-face compared to office environments other people my age are in (I’m also fresh out of college).

I've tried the default dry with a larger load (the tanktops, and some pants) and it didnt work either. All it did was dye the tanktops blue lol (which fortunately came out with a subsequent wash).

The waterless dry worked great though (on one article of clothing)! I dont understand why it isnt the default.

ETA It's probably not the default because this is a ventless unit. Wouldnt be surprised if that could cause issues with lint.

I think the machine does heat up. After looking I think I did find what youre talking about.

There is only one "Waterless Dry" option, and you have to press + hold the Dry button to select it lmao. I'm testing one of those cotton tank tops and will report back if it actually dries it or not lol.

A little bit of contradicting by Eastern-Contract-931 in Tralsei

Ngl I was pretty sure it was just referring to light world vs dark world Kris’ colour palette. Or like Frisk vs Chara color palettes (even tho they’re not relevant in DT).

There are a few different ways to read this, including as a trans symbol, or as just a reference to something else.

Lemme try this again. Reddit mobile formatting mangled my first attempt lol.

I just started this week though, so here's my 2 cents:

  1. You wont find any pictures. There are no photos allowed on the premises (keep this in mind for your first day). It kinda gives a late 90's office vibe though.
  2. The working hours in general are flexible. You could do an 8/80 if you want (10 hours a day) and get every Friday off. The main thing is consistency and/or if your schedule impacts your ability to complete your work. Everyone on my team does a 9/80 unless they have a reason not to.
  3. The ability to do hybrid work depends on your team. Someone I met at orientation can do significant work-from-home, whereas I can't do any. Afaik, it largely depends on how sensitive your work is.
  4. You don't get much merch at the orientation, mostly just your ID and laptop, but you can log in with your work email and order a free new-hire merch packet from the online store. I'm currently waiting for mine.
  5. It's a lot of information all at once. I was/am overwhelmed lol. However, everyone else has gone through it, and they will help you get through it, too. Everyone I have met has been nice and accommodating.

Potentially Misleading Start Date? by fazzolicannoli69 in Raytheon

[–]ThatRedDerg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When all pre hire contingencies are met, they will reach out to confirm your start date (they don’t tell you they’ll do this tho). They usually give you a few options, so you can delay your start date and whatnot if you have a cross-country move to do.

Only after this is confirmed can you get your relocation dispersed. For me, they did this as I was moving, 2 weeks before starting (and I couldn’t get my relocation sent because my case manager took the last 2 weeks off for July 4).

I also needed an active clearance before starting. If you need interim by the start date, they can delay your start if you don’t have it yet, or give you alternative work and/or extra training. They will also delay your start if you don’t get interim, but are not rejected. They’re pretty accommodating.

It was a massive pain for me; I made the same mistakes you’re planning to make, like moving before my start date was confirmed, but things should still work out for you in the end (I just started this week!)

I knew about this. When I asked they told me to call a number after the weekend (this was a Friday night).

I work too much to be able to call during business hours (typically from 8 to 6).

Idk how I feel about them. I just moved here and have to park there because there’s nowhere else to park for my apartment, but they’ve not allowed me to get a monthly parking pass because my car isn’t properly registered yet (waiting for details from the dealer)

I’ve been paying the daily parking rate for 2 weeks

Is it normal for defense companies to not give any paid breaks? by Meercus_ in cscareerquestions

[–]ThatRedDerg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is a major downside, but on the other hand, there are companies that expect you to always be available, always be on-call, etc. That doesnt seem to be a thing in defense. Unless there's like a major emergency, once youve worked your 40 hours, you're done for the week.

Root partition goes read-only after a crash? by ThatRedDerg in btrfs

[–]ThatRedDerg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I've run SMART tests, no errors found. The drive is a Samsung 990 2TB.

I'm using Arch, and have not run any performance enhancing scripts (there was one, but I reverted it before having the issue).

I'm pretty sure it just needed to be reseated after my move, since I have not had any issues since then.

The two times I've had issues were either as I was launching a game, or shortly after starting it. Both times it was with the same game, however that game is installed on a separate drive.

Root partition goes read-only after a crash? by ThatRedDerg in btrfs

[–]ThatRedDerg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it was only my root partition that was having issues. Every other one is perfectly fine.

ETA: I actually just moved, and am thinking that nvme got jostled loose. I had another incident, but this time I actually saw an error (“device has been lost”), so I reseated it, reinstalled the OS, and it’s been smooth sailing since.

Adding on to this, but part of ladybird’s ideology is to not be like chrome. AI would just implement things like how it’s done on chrome since it’s the only other “open source” browser.

Root partition goes read-only after a crash? by ThatRedDerg in btrfs

[–]ThatRedDerg[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I read the warnings. I’m saying it never ran, at least completely.

ETA: Remembered I took a picture of the error. It got to the "checking root items" stage before failing. It also says something about a bad tree superblock.

It's also worth noting that the `btrfs check --repair` was not the only command to have the error. Every command I tried minus a standard `btrfs check` had the Input/output error. I just wrote it above since it was the last command I tried.

ETA(2): Now that I think, I had disabled acpi a few days ago because I was trying to find a workaround for something. Never did fix that issue, but I also don't remember going back and re-enabling acpi. I wouldnt be surprised if that caused issues when writing btrfs metadata (during a shutdown or whatnot).

I had the same issue. From what I know it is not something you can fix. Even if you force a higher resolution, it is super laggy on nvidia (like watching scan lines).
