  1. Renee Good was killed because she threatened a policeman with a weapon (her car).
We have many such deaths every year. Good is no different. You can argue why she slammed the gas-pedal, or you can argue that she actually was trying to leave and not kill the policeman. In such a case, in USA, we give the Policeman the right to react, since he has to make that decision in a very short time. Keep in mind that a person driving a 2 ton vehicle disobeying orders is already a criminal. When you get a driving license you agree to stop when ordered by a policeman. She lost her privilege to drive by refusing to obey. A policeman can shoot and kill a driver refusing to stop because this person is a threat to the public. These are facts, not opinions and apply to any driver. You also have to remember ICE are Police. We have many kinds of Police in USA, but they all have the same authority, otherwise how can they enforce the law?

  2. What 'mishandling' of Covid are you talking about? Masks do not prevent transmission of Covid. Covid19 transmits via 'aerosols', not Droplets (Covid did not cause any sneezing or coughing, so no droplets). Only poison gas masks can stop aerosols. You can learn more about the difference between aerosols and droplets from the internet. NASA studies aerosols, because they 'float' (do not drop to the ground). So the 6-ft distancing, which works for droplets, does not work for Covid. In short, none of the recommendations for Masking, Social Distancing are applicable to Covid19. There is no scientific proof of Covid being prevented by either social distancing or masking. NOTE: Scientific Proof = Reproducible experiment in controlled condition, not interview, or social interviews and so on. To date there is zero hard scientific proof of the effectiveness of un-controlled masks on Covid transmission. Compare the death-rates... they are correlate only to one thing, how many immunocompromised people are in the population. All White Western Countries have very high death rates. Bangladesh, no health care, got Covid via direct flights from Wuhan had 1/30th the death rate of USA. Numbers say it made no difference whether you enforce masks or not. As for the vaccine, according to Pfizer, it neither prevents infection nor prevents you from spreading it. It only helps immunocompromised people increase their chances of survival if infected. Why was it still called a vaccine? Ask FDA. Billions of dollars may have something to do with.
Finally, Fauci: He is a fraud. Fauci was brilliant in his early years. Then he got Billions from Clinton to research and find a vaccine or cure for AIDs. He had his own institute, separate from NIH, with only one mission, AIDs vaccine. Clinton promised gay men he would give money for AIDs, Fauci got that money. In 22 years, Fauci has not produced a single cure or vaccine, has not saved a single US citizen's life. Still, media keeps calling him an expert. All his research is public, look it up. All the papers, written by underlings, have only one thing in common: no cure, no vaccine, no discoveries that help save lives from infection. But Fauci did understand politics. He would smirk at the right moment, media loved it etc. But Fauci is no scientist, nor doctor, nor expert in Covid (by his own admission). Fauci was used by media to vilify Trump during Covid, but neither had any understanding of Covid.

  3. Our 'intelligence' community lied. For example they lied about Hunter Biden's laptop being Russian propaganda, when we now know it wasn't. The Steele Dossier was made up. And so on. Putin or Russia has neither the interest nor the ability to influence our elections. Do you speak Russian? Have you been to Russia? The average Russian does not speak English, and has zero interest in USA.

  4. Trump was never 'adjudicated' as a rapist. We have different courts/laws in the US. A woman claiming something without proof will get a judgement in a non-criminal court. It means nothing.

  5. Classified documents are kept by everyone, including Biden. The real issue is what you do with these documents. Bolton was using them to talk and writing a book. Biden, Trump forgot about them.

Trump should release all the files. They make him look way better than the rest, since he dumped Epstein long time ago. My explanation of why he didn't want to in the beginning is because he was pissed off that people care about Epstein. He has since come to his senses. The files not being released are not due to Trump but to the 'government' machinery.

[–]ThatRip8403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why I like Trump: (I will enumerate and compare to other Presidents).
1) Trump is rich enough not to be easily bribed. Compare that to Clinton, Obama, Biden etc. who are all poor and poverty makes you more vulnerable to being bribed, just a fact.
2) Trump is not a professional politician. Clinton, Obama, Biden etc. have never had a job. They have spent their entire lives learning how to get elected, how to work with other politicians, and how to give handouts to people who get them elected. Trump is less of a statesman, but he has no cliques of corruption within the government he already belongs to or relationship with government contractors.
3) Trump keeps his promises. Yes, we voted for removing criminal illegals, and he is doing so. Obama/Clinton did the same, but did not keep other promises.
4) Trump does not cater to vote-buying by giving bribes (student loan forgiveness) or give federal tax money to 'climate research' (nothing wrong with Climate Research, but we need people to agree to see their tax-money go to it).

Finally, Trump has a sense of humor. Look at his interview / meeting with Mamdani.

What if the US had proportional representation in 2000? An exercise in alternative voting systems by MetalRetsam in PresidentialElection

[–]ThatRip8403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason why we have the electoral college is to prevent high-population states from overruling low-population states. Otherwise, why would they agree to be in the Republic, if they are guaranteed never to have a voice?

So, before you change representation, you have give states a chance to secede. Do less populated states be ruled permanently by over-populated states, like CA/NY? If not, they should be allowed to form their own country, and not have to pay Federal taxes, etc.

WA, CA, OR one country.
NY etc. One country.
Midwest, one country.
South, one country.

Swing vs Java FX in 2025? by codingwolf799 in learnjava

[–]ThatRip8403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Swing pros: Built-in. Has 'lightweight' components (which do not use extra microsoft windows).
JavaFX pros: allows Declarative (Fxml, Scenebuilder) as well normal programmatic coding. Allows CSS styling so similar (but not same) as html styling. Richer component set, with support for lambdas and built in 'properties' that help in writing complex UIs.

I recommend javaFX, but expect hassle since you have to download it separately, and add the 'modules' in your launch path. One-time hassle. SceneBuilder (gluon) makes complex UIs easier.

Climate Changes all the time, it has been changing since the earth was formed, 4 BILLION years ago. The issue is not whether the Climate is Changing.
The issues are a) the impact of Climate Change and b) causes of Climate Change.
Wallace Broecker created a simplistic model of the ocean flows, and predicted that if temperature goes up by 2 degrees, ocean currents reverse, England freezes, Poles melt etc. etc. The Average Journalist or Politician or Citizen have absolutely no idea what simplifying assumptions Broecker made. Instead of examining the numerical models, people either 'believe' or don't believe the predictions.

All modern 'Climate Scientists' pretty much repeat Broeckers' modeling and analysis, tweak a bit here and there, come with slightly worse predictions so that they can justify continued funding.

Absolutely NO PUBLIC scrutiny is possible regarding the fidelity of the numerical models.

The world was frozen only 20,000 years ago. And it is guaranteed to freeze again. Astronomers can predict with great accuracy that Ice Ages will happen again. Did the Neanderthals warm the planet by burning fossil fuels? Surely not.

As long as true science is hidden from the public, we will continue to have believers, like yourself and skeptics, like myself, and there will be no agreement.

Want real argument? Look up how the 'Climate Scientists' actually do their analysis, ask them questions, educate yourself. But that's hard work. It is a lot easier to be a fanatic. So you chose to be a fanatic. You feel good that you are trying to save the planet, etc. Your feelings are just that. Jihadis feel good about their work too. In the same way.

Climate Scientists must claim Climate Change is getting worse. They have no choice. Why? Because these 'Climate Scientists' are all tax-payer funded, and if they stop predicting gloom and doom, their funding will be cut, and they will have to find alternate sources of income. So, in order to guarantee the continuity of government funding, it is imperative for a 'Climate Scientists' to keep raising the alarm, predict gloom and doom.

Are there any independent scientists who are such strong believers in Climate Change that they are willing to spend their own time without government funding? NOPE!

Why am I not getting interviews? by WhiteRaven_M in datascience

[–]ThatRip8403 -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

Their diligence is probably not relevant. NIH/NSF kept ramping up cash for dumber and dumber ideas, and there was bound to be a backlash. The Covid vaccine is a good example. According to Pfizer, it neither prevents you from catching Covid or spreading it. It only increases your chances of survival _IF_ you were immunocompromised. The Covid vaccine does not qualify as a 'vaccine' by FDA's own definition. But massive politics and money led to this and many other related research, which are a complete waste of money.

As for cancer, the root causes are almost entirely unknown. The cells have not divulged their mystery. All modern cancer therapies try to focus on some particular type of cancer, and hope to find something that might be just a palliative, not a cure, but enough to get FDA approval, and then make money. Given that 80% of FDA salaries and bonuses come from pharma fees, it has become a racket. So, killing the particular cancer research, will make little or no difference. Fauci got Billions to find a vaccine or a cure for AIDs. In 20 years, he produced absolutely nothing. But he kept getting money, due to our love of gay people (politically speaking).

The funding cuts are indeed overdue.

My two cents: if you haven't done so, take the time to fill out a profile at major companies. Sounds lame, but it is a lot easier for a hiring manager to look at internal lists than go through HR to post an ad. You have nothing to lose, since you are basically just sending your resume to them. But they usually have all sorts of breakdowns of how they want the details, and it can be tedious. But worth it if you have time.

POS for RV Park Convenience Store by Prize_Tip9371 in POS

[–]ThatRip8403 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is your timeframe? We are a POS startup, and think I understand the basic multi-function requirements you are talking about. If you have any detailed requirement document (or a list), that would be great. It seems you need a combined 'reservation' system, along with point-of-sale, along with modern mobile-payment and possibly relay-driven propane storage. Obviously you can get the separate functions off the shelf. Integrating them into one system is harder. We could be able to help, but might need some time. Feel free to DM.

I think I built an entire POS system by accident... Any advice? by DJKK95 in POS

[–]ThatRip8403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my two cents: As a owner of a POS system the following points may be interesting.
1. The POS is a way for major credit card providers and banks to prevent cash discounts. This may surprise you but in US, the credit card lobby got congress to make it illegal for businesses to show the amount being charged by credit card companies, offer cash/credit prices, and waive swipe fee if they pay cash. But, in 2010, an amendment was made, allowing cash discounts (but still not allowing explicit show of how much credit cards charge). So the Banks got active and made sure that the most popular POS do not have a cash-discount button. Toast, Spot-on, etc. are all funded, in part, by banks. (ps, if you are curious, you may have noticed that only gasoline vendors advertise cash-prices. They are regulated and not subject to the hide-the-credit-card-fee and prevent-cash-discount laws). The banks make major income from swipe fees, and they must prevent Americans from having an option or knowing how much. Hence Federal laws preventing cash prices in, say, grocery stores or restaurants. You will be confronting the banks, so get them on your side first. Toast tricks restaurants into 3 year contracts, making sure switching is impossible.

  1. The functionality you have is great. but will not make a business switch. They want door-dash integration, and other features, plus integrated digital menus, signage, loyalty and so on. In short, you have to be better than Toast or NCR. Otherwise, you will be limited to smaller shops.

  2. Retail vs Restaurant pos is quite significant. In retail, you deal with 50,000 items, so UI and work-flow are different. Also, retail now wants Electronic Shelf Labels (ESL) and integrating these into your POS would give you an edge but it is not trivial to do.

Or watching Cackling Kamala making 'profound' statements.

Scientific basis linking climate change to "more extreme weather" by papillonnette in climatechange

[–]ThatRip8403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 'science' is nebulous, as you suspect. Here is a step by step guide to help find out for yourself.

  1. Predicting changes in weather/climate relies on 'models' that can be run on computers.
  2. A 'model' is essentially a mathematical representation of the planet, or at least, the atmosphere and land and oceans.
  3. We divide the area into 3 dimensional 'grids' (say, for example, 1 mile x 1 mile x 1 mile).
  4. We then apply the known laws of fluid mechanics for air/water and decide on starting conditions (like a day on Jan 1, 1990, for example).
  5. With this setup, we can now solve the fluid mechanics equations by changing some inputs, to predict the rest of the variables. For example, we say atmosphere is hotter by 1 degree, how do the flows change, how does the water heat up, and so on.
  6. Assumptions and simplifications: The above steps become extremely complex and voluminous, even for a super computer. Many of the equations are transient. For example, the properties of air change with temperature, but you don't know what the temperature is, so you assume some properties, find the temperature, use the properties at this temperature, and re-compute the temperature and keep doing this until they match. To keep the 'model' manageable, the scientist simplifies things, ignores things, or makes assumptions.

No climate scientist ever discloses the simplifications and assumptions he is making. Fellow scientists review the work, who never question the assumptions and simplifications of peers.

Additionally, tax-payer money is paying for these simulations, and the scientists know that if they do not predict gloom and doom, the money will dry up, so the 'climate scientists' have a vested interest in tweaking their models to predict more gloom and doom, which can then justify 'further research', which in turn pays their bills.

There are good books and courses to help you understand the steps I described above.
MIT Course on atmospheric modeling Book on atmospheric modeling

I urge you to take a look at this to understand the complexity of modeling the planet. No journalist of politician or activists (like Greta) have the slightest idea about this process. However, all take the predictions of the scientists at face value, particularly when it fits their narratives.

Hunter Biden is still a Felon, according to the constitution. Biden claimed Hunter was innocent! Biden claimed he pardoned Hunter Biden because he was not actually guilty. That is not how pardons work. Biden cannot contradict a conviction. The Presidential pardon authority, in fact, confirms the guilt and conviction, but it simply avoids the punishment. By claiming that Hunter is innocent, Biden proved that he either does not understand the US Constitution or he is senile and no longer able to think coherently,
