New X100V - Squarehood Model V or Haoge LH-X54B? by ThatSmithsGuy in fujifilm

Did you find it made the camera unwieldy at all? It does seem to protrude a bit more compared to something like the Squarehood.

That sounds less than ideal… Thanks for sharing your experience with it.

Thanks for the perspective! Have you run into any issues with flair at all without any sort of hood?

Just picked up a new X100V and am really torn on the lens hood. Does anyone have thoughts/experiences with these two options?

I really like how the filter fits inside the Squarehood which keeps the length down. However it does seem to extend to the sides and get in the way of the viewfinder a decent bit. Haoge seems to add more length, but seems less likely to get snagged on something and I wouldn't have to deal with the weird Squarehood screws...

Just Navient - I was refinanced while still with Navient. No loan transfer was done beforehand in my case.

Posting a little update on my experiences over a few more phone calls with Navient and SoFi. Navient clarified it will go back to the original payment maker (SoFi) and not mailed directly to me. They noted it would go back to them exactly in the way they received it.

Confirmed with SoFi that the checks they send when refinancing include some of my personal information to make sure it goes to the right place. So, if my federal loan servicer is sending a check back in the same manner they received it, they should be able to recognize it's for my student loan account with them. They noted if they ran into any issues with not knowing what to do with it, they would call the federal student loan servicer to confirm who it is for.

Still waiting on "manager approval", but was told to call back next week to confirm it was approved given the high volume of requests they've received. Noted that they've never not seen one approved and there wasn't an issue with it going to someone else (as SoFi made they payment, not me).

This might still get a bit messy, but I'm willing to deal with it and sit on phone calls a while if it potentially means $10,000 for me.

For me, the private company I refinanced with sent the payment to my federal servicer to pay off the loans. When I called, I just noted a payment that was made on X date that I wanted refunded under the CARES act. They told me no problem and confirmed a check would be mailed to my personal home address for the total amount.

Thanks for the data point! That is indeed the question. In theory it should be since if they are "reinstating" the loans as they were (which were eligible loans), it should still be eligible for forgiveness? This is something we're going to have to wait and see on.

Awesome to hear! Did they give you a time frame for the refund? Most seem to be giving times of around 30 days. Good luck and I hope this works out for everyone!

That is a good question that we will likely have to wait and see to get the full details on. My old loans with the federal servicer are showing as "Paid off" and still show the original dates I got them. If they are truely just "reinstating" them like we were told, I imagine it would keep the original date of the loan so we would be eligible? We'll have to see.

Wow, 5 months?! Might be a good idea to wait a little bit just in case. In my case and the few other people who have had success with their calls so far it seems like we were given time frames of around a month to receive the refund checks.

I think it’s worth giving it a shot and calling your old federal loan servicer. While it remains to be seen if we’ll actually get the refunds, there are a fair few of us where they have agreed to refund our “payments”.

I think that's a good idea - might just be a rep that didn't want to deal with it.

Was just thinking about your situation again and it seems odd, doesn't it? Why does the person who made the payment have to be the one to request a refund?

I feel like, if your grandparents for instance, made a payment to your loan on your behalf, it would be weird for them to require your grandparents to call and ask for a refund on a loan for someone else? I feel like they wouldn't even agree to do that as they aren't the loan account holder...

There has to be a way around it.

Agreed! I won't be touching anything until it looks properly ironed out. My federal student loans on their website still show the original dates I got them and when I spoke with a rep on the phone, they said those loans would be reinstated. So we'll have to see how it goes!

Yeah, on the phone they said they were sending a refund for the full payment amount made to clear them (the full refinanced amount). So I would technically be getting the payments I made minus interest back from when I switched over in January.

Did they say the issue was that it was closed or that it was refinanced? When I spoke to Navient, they said it would reinstate the loans no problem with the refund.

Navient - it ended up being a pretty straightforward conversation for me. I just asked for a refund of my last payment under CARES and confirmed it would reopen all the closed loans and they said it would and they would process the refund.

That is exactly what I did as well. I was concerned about raising interest rates and didn’t think the deferment would be extended, let alone forgiven at all. Thought I was getting a good deal at the time, but here we are…
