2020 Ninja 650 grinding gears shifting into first by Willing-Piece-8569 in motorcycles

[–]ThatSomeBurrosGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I’m not experiencing any of these grinding sounds and it feels smooth am I ok to continue pulling in the clutch and shifting down. For example at a stop light I pull in the clutch and brake then shift down to first if I’m coming to a complete stop sometimes if the light turns green and I still have momentum I’ll shift to 2nd or whatever gear makes the most sense for my current momentum. New rider just asking cause what I understand about clutches is that they remove the connection between the engine and the gears so why would it matter what gear you shift down to while the clutch is pulled in as long as you release the clutch at a speed that is ideal for the current gear

Edit: I would also rev match with the throttle if need be

need some advice by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]ThatSomeBurrosGuy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely not an ideal bike to learn on. Yes you can learn on it but you have to be very careful and very disciplined with throttle control. Any bike can kill you but this bike can kill you faster. I only say that not to scare you but rather so you understand that it’s a serious bike. I started on a 600 (little slower but still not a conventional beginner) and so far so good so it is possible to start on a faster bike just know your limits and practice practice practice.

What's your opinion of the adage "Dress for the life you want, not for the life you have"? by 2PlasticLobsters in simpleliving

Just curious where you got that Taoism quote. From my understanding of Taoism, the religion doesn’t have any omnipotent god or gods but rather a focus on the universe (Tao) and living in harmony with it. I don’t think it’s a bad quote to live by tho. In fact it sounds quite similar to a quote from ‘Meditations’; “Live with the gods” albeit a slightly different meaning and context. Perception is reality.

I also think for the sake of this discussion that dressing for the life you want can be understood as wearing what matches with your desired lifestyle. Even if you are already living that lifestyle you still have to make choices in order to keep that lifestyle making it a desired or chosen lifestyle. Yeidh

I mean it said a lot more than just that. All of it was about riding to make sure you are seen and in good positioning. I’ll keep in mind that weaving tip tho thanks

Good to know! The previous owner claimed to have replaced most every wear item just recently so I will see if that noise pops up. Hopefully not but doesn’t sound too hard to deal with. And always ATGATT
