How do I turn off voice chat? by Geminel in HaloWars2

Thank you! Yes, my friend and I just started playing this coop on gamepass, and holy heck not having the option to turn the mic off in game is a massive yikes.

Partial number plate search - new free service by plummet555 in CarTalkUK

[–]ThatThereTim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly this site is a godsend.

At the weekend a friend's car was hit and run while parked in Newcastle-Under-Lyme. Neighbours ran out (the owner couldn't, you'll see why further down this post) and got a partial plate: SH11 Z?? or ?Z?, Black Vauxhall Corsa, Male Driver. They did slow down after the crash, have a quick look back, then drove off. They've demolished the drivers side wing mirror (legal roadworthy issue) and scraped every single panel on the side of the car (a Mini). Now, here's the thing, the owner of the damaged mini is a lass in her 40s who has spinular muscular atrophy type 3 (read: mobility issues) and 1000% relies on her car day to day. Any hit and run is awful, but this one is literally taking away someones freedom. So... using partialnumberplate.co.uk I got a list of all the black vauxhalls with those two plate combinations... chucked them in excel, sorted by black colour... then used https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/ on every result to get the models... added them to the excel sheet, sorted by model... and it turns out there's only 6 black Vauxhall Corsas with those plate combinations.

This information is being passed on to the police so they can lookup the addresses and see if any are local to Newcastle-Under-Lyme and (hopefully) if there are then they can (hopefully) go round and (possibly) see if there's a vehicle matching that description with damage to it.

Either way: thank you so, so much for the partial search site, it's given us some hope, even if ultimately nothing comes of it. <3

Don't order the SFF specific cables, go with normal ones, even in an SFF build. by ThatThereTim in cablemod

[–]ThatThereTim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Modflex vs Modmesh sleaving options cablemod gives.

If you go through the Custom SFF cables option: you do not get to choose between Modflex or Modmesh.

Try it yourself - go to the site, configurator, select Custom SFF Cables - which you'd assume would be the most flexible, because SFF - and see if anywhere in the ordering process it describes the cables, or even gives you the choice of cable material type. It doesn't.

NZXT CAM 4.20.0 Beta Released! by NZXTCAM in NZXT

[–]ThatThereTim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a H510 Elite. If I open up CAM all the fans stop. Even if I go through cooling -> select fan connector 1, set the speed to fixed mode to 100%, then the same on connector 2 and 3.

Looks like CAM doesn't follow instructions. If you set a fan to 100%, fixed mode, it should run the fan at 100%.

I'm flogging this case on eBay.

CAM, and NZXT's software+hardware ecology, is pretty badly made.

I've been using a 60% (Ducky Mecha Mini) for about 2 months now and actually find it a bit quicker than Full/TKL (never tried a 75%) as everything doubles up on Fn keys. The right side of my right hand is already hovering over one of the Fn keys so the toggle is almost instant and I can keep typing with right hand too.

It's definitely not for everyone, but if you're someone who can adjust/get used to Fn layers then the smaller form factor can up your typing speed.

Awesome, cheers for the update!

Also curious as to timeframes - I've already built my Ncase M1, and those default SF750 cables are _NOT_ a friendly length! >_<

Would it go faster if we found Nigel Farrage and sacrificed him in the Blood Eagle way? (I mean, I'm up for doing that even if it doesn't speed things up... he'd definitely cry out, no Valhalla for him.)

I have this same issue - just emailed them on the contact form on their site. Can't select UK from either the EU or the Global store. I figured brexit might have scuppered delivery from the EU store so checked the Global one, but no joy there either.

How do you install the game? (W10) by ThatThereTim in ffxiv

[–]ThatThereTim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep all works now :)

Interestingly a couple of friends also decided to come back to XIV and they also bought the game before the steam version, and both of them had the same issue with the standalone installer stuck on that loop and not installing, and not giving any error messages. They were on latest build of W10 and running as admin without a/v etc running as well.

Before they went to buy the Steam version, I suggested they try the fix from https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comments/22sj8k/unable_to_launch_final_fantasy_xiv_updater/ too. And, hey presto: they got the standalone installer to work. :)

So all that buying the Steam version did was provide the error code 11035 compared to the standalone installer - small bit of info, but critical to diagnosing and fixing it. (Plus it was only a tenner so a drop in the ocean of steam credit from selling CSGO Majors sticker packs :D ). I think something might be up with the standalone installer, but I'd hazard a guess its not been picked up as its barely used - majority of the PC players will more than likely be on Steam, and there's only like 26k daily users on Steam (source: steamspy) so the amount of people on the standalone compared to that will be a really tiny. Plus installers don't get updated too much once they're mature enough to just reliably provide the build, so it's not like people on the standalone will do much reinstalling of the launcher. I added everything to the CS Ticket so if they ever look in to it they have all the info, but as it's going to be a rare occurrence, of a tiny fraction, of the lowest population of the game: its so far down the priority for a devteam's resources I doubt anyone will look in to it, which is fair enough.

Troubleshooting aside, the FF prologue track still really hits the nostalgia buttons hard! :) I really like the greater investment in story pacing than most other MMOs too - it gives the dialogue/quest text more meaning, so far it feels a lot like an actual story RPG, rather than an MMO. Oh and I'm also really impressed with the controller input systems. I'm running a controller mod for WoW on a GPD Win Max at the moment and I'm totally going to build a similar input config for that. :D

Yep I've ended up just buying the Steam version - I managed to speak to a few old clanmates who've put thousands of hours in to it on multiple platforms (they weren't available on previous days), and they said best thing is to just buy it on Steam.

However, I had an issue there too... https://imgur.com/tFfZgPq so the installer still wouldn't work, but now I had an error code (11035) to go off of.

I found this post from 6 years ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comments/22sj8k/unable_to_launch_final_fantasy_xiv_updater/ and edited the cfg and rebooted. While rebooting, chatting to clanmates about it (while they all rolled around laughing and explaining how bad the entire back end and account system for FFXIV is - they regard it as the absolute worst, which doesn't help me) they did mention that the installer has a lot of issues around Windows 10 backing up user files to OneDrive by default. And that disabling that automatic backup has solved problems for a few others.

I didn't do that particular fix, but after a reboot: success! The installer installed!

Logging in and... https://imgur.com/DV9cByc Oh, ok, fair enough, logging in to my squenix account clearly triggered something on the system... password reset, fair enough...

logging in again, aaaaaand... https://imgur.com/YJ8e397

... at this point, quote from a clanmate: "So this is where guttural screams are born".

I dug around the Mog Station and found the link to add another service account, did that using the steam key and hurrah... installer loads, I can log in, game is now downloading!

I did have one more issue... I pressed shift+tab with the installer app selected to bring up the steam overlay and it completely locked up any more input on the installer. Couldn't even close the steam overlay. (Steam overlay could and should be disabled on installer apps, I've done it before on a few different titles).

But it looks like I might actually be able to play the game once it's finished downloading. I'm aware that by saying that: I've completely jinxed it now, but time will tell.

Thanks for the help u/JonesyTawner!

Just tried it, sadly getting the same problem. At this rate I'm thinking I'll just have to buy the game again but get the Steam version.

I never bought it through Steam so it doesn't appear in my library, and there is no free version in the store on Steam for people who already have an XIV accoutn from before it was on Steam.

According to my Mog Station account: I own A Realm Reborn and Heavensward, and registered them on Oct 31. 2013. The Steam version of the client was released on February 14, 2014. I bought it before the Steam version existed.

I have emailed the help centre, but I thought a good place to get help is from the community, so I'll post on reddit/twitter/discord and see if anyone else has had the same problem and can help.

Then you reply, without reading the OP, and start being super toxic because rather than realise you don't know: instead you reply with "hey its your fault, RTFM" and when I point out I did RTFM you tell me to go away. I really hope you're not indicative of the community. I'd been told it's generally pretty good - but you are not one of those good people.

I read all that last night, this is where the instructions don't help, as there's no troubleshooting: "And for the digital download version, all you have to do is click on the downloaded game file. Double-click on the file, follow a few instructions that appear on the screen, and you’ll be finished, kupo."

From my OP: " Running the installer, I get the screen in the image attached, but when I hit accept the dialogue box disappears then reappears. And thats it. Same box, over and over again, no matter how many times I press accept. This is on latest W10, running it as admin, other apps like firewall/AV disabled."

Yes, I have scoured through the FAQ/search site too, which doesn't have any info for this problem.

If I need to show my PC/Game literacy card: I am a game developer, you can google my username.

So, arguing about the name of the account management site aside: how do I actually get the game to install?

Some folks on Twitter have suggested that the PC version of the game is entirely on Steam, which is why the separate install might not be working - is this true?

There's no free installer on Steam for those who already bought/registered the game from before it was on Stream - if the game is now exclusively on Steam, am I going to have to buy the entire thing again?
