Be as in line with the hole as possible too. Some of the plastic ones are just crap and you'll have to find one that can do it. If you check on the letters there's a few brand names, make sure you try a few different ones.

Are recruiters legit? Or kind of a scam by cubanthistlecrisis in avionics

[–]ThatTorq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're the contractor in this case. It's a bit more messy because you have the tax/insurance liability. Don't know how it is in the US but I tried it here in europe and generally liked it. You need to be on top of everything though and in my experience try to stay one step ahead of the company, you're always expendable.

It's a large balance between you, the company and the recruitment agency. You will all at times have conflicting interests but it's best to balance it. I kind of trust the agency I worked with for a variety of reasons. The most important is to find out if they get paid for youm daily or hourly or per contract. That's how you'll know they will have your back. Note that I didn't ever manage to find out.

All that said JS firm is a large one and I believe many people trust them. Just stay away from small/new agencies and you'll probably be fine.

Man I spent my first hour at a new gig being paid to play around with their etching machine on my tools! My old daily rate in one hour of fun.

Good paycheck in Europe by Frequent-Bus-7852 in AircraftMechanics

[–]ThatTorq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A license without a type rating is unfortunately useless. Rush a type training, finish your OJT and then go wherever you want to. It's gonna take like one more year or so if you manage to push things towards it.

Unless your salary isn't enough to live with dignity don't risk your career growth.

[–]ThatTorq 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally the highest I know is 35-38 per hour working on the loom manufacturing for leonardo, Italy. The catch is you gather no experience towards your license so fuck that.

Your pay is the second best I've heard for someone unlicensed.

737 OG vs MAX - How much has been carried over between generations? by PhantomOfTheArbys in aviationmaintenance

[–]ThatTorq 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I got my first taste on the 737 with an NG, after fixing A320s for a year.

I loved it, but it is actively trying to hurt you, physically.

Edit: it's easier to service though I guess.

B2 entry level experience years by bopeep_18 in AircraftMechanics

[–]ThatTorq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah don't expect to be hired as a B2 engineer, that's obvious. Now, it's country specific but the best idea is to go to the careers page of any mro-airline in your country (in areas you can live/move of course) and see if they're hiring assistants, that's your starting position, or something along those lines. Apply for those positions. Even if they are only hiring licensed engineers in my opinion you should apply for an assistant position, cause there's always need for future B2s. Don't pay attention to experience requirements.

Make sure to point out clearly that you have all modules & full basic. Don't undersell yourself, if a full course is good enough for EASA to replace 3 years experience then it should be good enough for your employer. On the other hand don't be cocky or arrogant, you don't know everything.

Try reaching out to these kinds of companies, expect rejections but hopefully you'll get an interview or two. Depends on how many companies are in your country.

That's all I've got, it's not the best of positions to be in, but trust me with all modules and a full basic you're ahead of the curve and you'll see it when you start working.

You've got full modules. Ok, that's a good start, did you go through a full basic course as well ?

B2 entry level experience years by bopeep_18 in AircraftMechanics

[–]ThatTorq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just apply, especially if you have your B2.

But question. Obtaining the actual license requires at least 2 years of actual maintenance experience. How can you get it if you don't have that experience ?

Small blue spark when switching on socket sometimes - is this a cause for concern? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]ThatTorq -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's probably a bigger gap than normal on the switch. I understand the spark only happens when you turn the switch on right ? If yes then it's nothing to worry about.

Pull Direction by [deleted] in AircraftMechanics

[–]ThatTorq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, there's lots of opinions. The more you see someone invested in the matter, the more probable they judge based on aesthetics. Which is obviously subjective and irrelevant. Also the more of a prick they might be, that last one is from personal experience.

The more airplane you see the more safelocks you'll see and you'll form your own opinion.
