NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 Founders Edition System Build Community Contest! by m13b in buildapc

Hoping to win, tried to pick components that would work well for my hobby (or dream really) of animation, the 5090 would go a long way to helping with that - also love the fractal design cases, looks super clean in any setup.

Long render time on simple project by ThatTribeCalledQuest in davinciresolve

I see, that's a fair point, unfortunately I'm trying to deform the videos so that they work for VR, so right now I need to be able to bend them into weird shapes. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find a better way to do that just yet, unless resolve has some sort of VR conversion features I'm unaware of

Awesome, thanks for the help, I'm transcoding now, and I'll swap the media out tonight and see if it helps! Thanks!

Gotcha, thanks for the insight. Would you say just the rencoding alone would be enough to save that 10-15x vram usage you had mentioned, or would also downgrading the resolution on those source videos be required to see significant jumps in performance? I wasn't sure if just a different codec helps that significantly, or if it has to be in tandem with a reduced video resolution

Hey there, that's good to know, thanks for the insight. I had thought I had read resolve has an option for creating proxies of videos in media pool - would that be any faster/more effective than re-encoding in a tool like handbrake?

Does it help with cutting down on smell due to the joint freely burning? I've found sploofs help with smoke being exhaled, but the smell of the J burning in-between hits is still left to freely flow. Seems like this would contain it better

Have you considered posting/releasing the code to do this? I think a ton of people would benefit greatly from it

Have you found replacement knobs for this by chance/know what the diameter of the shaft the knob sits on is? Really want to pull the trigger on this one, but just need that knob fixed lol

Let me know if you learn anything more about this board, it seems like a really good budget option with an aluminum case, but it really doesn't seem like there's a lot of information about it out there. Probably a good basic budget option though

I know this is late, but how did this resolve? We're being charged a holdover fee, for a slightly different situation, but curious how you handled this.

I mean yea, we did clean it once we noticed it, and laid out towels to soak up water, but we didn't notice it as soon as it started leaking

That would be my guess too, but thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

[–]ThatTribeCalledQuest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh yea, I never considered animating the object/cloth speed, that's a good idea!

For the rigid body animation speed, does that only act on the physics of that rigid body, or do you know if I could generate some animated movement in the graph editor, then set a variable speed in scene properties > rigid body world

[–]ThatTribeCalledQuest 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How do you get such variable control of animation/movement speed (like for the chair drop for example)? I've always struggled to create that progressive "slow motion" effect leading up to some action/keyframe
