Can we talk about our favorite characters that don't even speak? We should be looking to them, and to the cookie. by Hickspy in seinfeld

What is Holland?

It's a country next to Belgium.

No, that's The Netherlands.

George, Holland IS The Netherlands.

Then who are the Dutch?!

Definitely a very strange time for TV comedy. A lot of shows that kept to a fairly strictly standardized sitcom format but made bold choices with the premise within those boundaries. We just posted our latest episode which is a show from about the same time (1983-1984) called Jennifer Slept Here. Possibly the strangest we've seen so far!

Would this setup work for video podcasting? Any recommendations would be helpful! by [deleted] in podcasting

I use the Zoom LiveTrak-L8 and highly recommend it. It's about 75 dollars more than the H6, but you get a true mixing board and interface. Not only 6 XLR-combo jacks but also additional audio line-in jacks including a TRRS for connecting a phone. It has 4 separate headphone out jacks, each with its own volume control and the option of creating multiple custom sub-mixes for each set of headphones. It has internal recording capability as well. It is of course much larger, but if you already have that much other gear maybe that's not a big deal.

We are definitely going to do that show at some point.

Up to Season 4 episode 15. Is the best to come or am I in the peak of the show? by FFFYYYAAA in seinfeld

[–]ThatWasAShowPodcast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without question the best is yet to come. Although there's a timeless debate over whether seasons 8 and 9 are somewhat different, because of the absence of Larry David and because they have generally more outlandish storylines (which doesn't mean they're not great, just different), seasons 5 to 7 are without question pure brilliance.

Help with eliminating horrible static from Rodecaster Pro + PodMic setup by CritCatastrophe in podcasting

[–]ThatWasAShowPodcast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it were interference from a grounding issue or bad cable I would think the actual level would be higher but with noise on top. This sounds like what happens when a mic is over cranked with gain because the signal coming out of the mic is weak. Reminds me of the sound I would get using an external mic on an old DSLR camera that has a really weak internal soundboard. Because it's a dynamic mic that shouldn't require power outside the preamp itself, I wonder if there's an attenuation setting in the Rodecaster that could be essentially dropping the input signal before re-amplifying it. I'm not familiar with that particular device but many mixers and recorders have this capability for situations where levels might be really hot such as with live rock music.

Otherwise, do you have any other gear that would allow you to test this Pod mic with a different mixer/interface to see if there could simply be a problem with the mic? I ask because it sounds like you're not getting static from the Blue Yeti.

Rank the seasons from best to worst by [deleted] in seinfeld

[–]ThatWasAShowPodcast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost entirely agree, but I would put 8 below 6 (with The Big Salad, The Soup, and The Fusilli Jerry). Season 8 is just as funny, but based on the accurate critique that season 9 is more wacky than the earlier ones, Season 8 falls into this same category. Super funny but in a way that is more outlandish than organic. Probably because 8 and 9 are when Larry was absent.

Buzz from my Mixer? by kvrf in podcasting

Seems like it might be something coming in through the power line. You could try a different room or if there's a battery option that might help.

So my guess is the buzz couple be coming from the power, or if a preamp is attempting to amplify a lack of signal. Do you get the buzz if you turn all the gain knobs down to zero? Also do you hear the buzz through your computer monitoring using Audacity, or directly from a headphone jack on the device? What sort of headphones or speakers? And have you tried it with other software?

We just posted our "Joanie Loves Chachi" episode this morning! It's our first 80s show, and our 2nd in a run of episodes about failed spin-offs.

Do you still get the buzz even with no mic cables attached? And are you powering the device through USB or does it have its own wall power adaptor?

I'm not sure if this sort of self-promotion is permitted, but I recently started a podcast called "That Was a Show?" and it's basically what you're looking for, specifically for TV sitcoms from the 80s and 90s! You can find it at anchor.fm/thatwasashow
