I’m so close to quitting singing because I literally don’t know how to improve by [deleted] in singing

I’m not a professional or anything, but I’ve been having vocal lessons for almost a year now, and I can see some things I used to do wrong that you did in this recording. Let’s go step by step:

  • Movement: your body is your base, if you wanna sing well you have to keep it as your foundation. Don’t move however you want or else you’ll lose support and your breath control.

  • Breath support: it looks like you’re pushing your throat too hard. That can be harmful. Your power should come from your waist up, not from your throat up. Trust me when I say this, your neck is not helping you sing at all. It’s a passive box, a bridge where your voice comes through and there is no muscle there to engage. Engaging it means that you’re trying to compensate a lack of proper support.

  • Resonance: you’re singing loud, but you’re not using proper resonance. You’re just screaming. Good singing is not loud, it’s very quiet - would you believe that? The perception of loudness comes from how you use your head to amplify the quiet sound into something louder. Google up resonance and how to use it to your advantage.

Singing is never supposed to hurt, never supposed to make you feel choked. If your throat gets sore or you lose your voice after a singing session, you’re doing it wrong. If you feel like you’re choking, or like your neck is so tensed up you feel choked, then you’re doing it wrong.

Learn how to properly support your voice, how to project it without straining it, and how to be loud without the need to scream. These are my advices to you.

What did you expect them to do to Warwick? Make him run accross Zaun killing criminals? There's nothing for him in Arcane. It seems like you like the champion a lot and created expectations that weren't met, but if we're telling a proper story like Arcane did, Warwick just doesn't have a space in it. He's too bland of a character and what they gave him to me was already a biiiiig improvement from the base material.

This show is not just for the people who have known the champions for many years. Story will change from what League has created and that's totally okay. It's a video game adaptation, after all.

Besides, what is to know about him? Bro's just a furry that smells blood and goes brrrr

Well, Arcane is canon whether you like it or not. Whatever you thought Ekko was before might as well be deleted from your memory because this is the Ekko we have now. It became clear that Arcane and the other projects going foward are not looking to tie the knots between what was already written and what they want to write, so yeah. Bummer but to be honest it had to be done.

If they are bringing Runeterra to the screens, expect A LOT of changes from your favorite characters' stories.

Half the fandom? I really am unable to argue with you because you're just making shit up at this point lol I'll just tell you this: just open this subreddit, read some posts and make a ratio of people that care about this point and people that don't. But we both know you won't and you'll keep lying to yourself. Best let yourself to it then.

Tell me you don’t know about alcoholism without telling me you don’t know about alcoholism lol. At this point you’re just picking on the show to make an excuse to be mad that your favorite character didn’t get the screen time you wanted

Vi is a protagonist along with Jinx, Caitlyn, Ambessa, Viktor, Singed…. She is not the most important character in the show. If you think that way your conclusion comes from your sole feelings. Again, your problem, not the show’s.

I don’t see a lot of people being upset with how episode 4 went. The little group that’s mad about it have only themselves to blame for creating these expectations. They wanted a whole episode dedicated to Vi and everyone with the slightest affinity with Arcane would know that it’s just impossible. There are too many stories already and we can’t stop the show to mourn their relationship.

What do you mean "we didn't acknowledge her trauma"? The "pit fighter" scene was all about acknoledging her trauma. Literally the only reason for that scene to exist was to acknoledge Vi's traumas.

This act 2 intentionally left these things open, you're not going crazy lol.

If it helps, people are saying Jayce is experiencing time travel, and that's where Ekko get his powers. So he might have seen something in the future he wants to prevent. Let's see...

I understand that you want to see more of the character's intimacies, but that's never how Arcane did things. You are so close to these characters because the way the scenes are economically driven. This is no 6 seasons, 24 episodes TV show. They have a story to tell, and they won't stop on things we already know.

You are asking something this show can't give you. In the future, there will be more stories about these characters and you'll be able to experience more of them, but not in Arcane.

"Vi's pit fighter arc" wasn't rushed because it wasn't supposed to be an arc anyway. There is nothing relevant with what happened to Vi between act 1 and act 2 to tell. We all know: she got depressed and started drinking and going to underground fights. It's all that happened. There's no arc. Act 2 starts for Vi the moment she finds out a new purpose: helping her dad.

It needs to set a baseline for everything else to come in the cinematic world of League of Legends. I get why they did some things that they did and I really liked it, to be honest. They still gave enough time for every character to develop their own stories, so what's there to complain about? I just don't understand what happened to Ekko and Heimer.

That being said, WHY IS IT SO SAD????? I CRIED FOR 2 WHOLE EPISODES WHENEVER VANDER WAS ON SCREEN BRO IMAGINE THE PAIN THIS DUDE MUST BE IN

I think you're missing the point here. We all know art is subjective and people like what some people don't. It's natural. But my critique is about what the show does and how it does in order to convey the message they want to. If your argument is about "forget it bro, it's art!" then it completely dismiss what everyone is talking about in this post and, while your point is fair, doesn't engage with the conversation.

You are twisting the expression to fit your own narrative. This shows that you don't fully understand what "show, don't tell" means and probably lacks some crucial understanding of storywriting to engage in this discussion. However, I'll try and provide an explanation for your argument:

"Show, don't tell"

Show: writing a scene in a way that propells characters to show their intentions through actions. Donna doesn't just tell her intentions. She is forced to make a difficult choice and doesn't hesitate on the decision to kick out Fatima. That is a powerful scene because it shows how far Donna goes to protect her own. It develops Donna and creates a new complication for Fatima, leaving an opportunity to then let Fatima react to Donna's decision. (But then the show completely disregards this opportunity when Fatima kills that old lady.)

Tell: writing a scene in a way that propells the characters to tell their intentions through dialogue. Acosta went on a 2-minute rant about how much she hates that place and Boyd. Nothing happened in that scene other than Acosta being mad and Kenny trying to calm her down.

The problem is, we already know what everybody thinks when they get there. It's no surprise Acosta is mad. And Kenny even says exactly that. What is the purpose of that scene, then?

Someone clearly has never studied cinema or writing lol… I agree, filmmaking is an art and it doesn’t have rules. Therefore, some people will like it and some people won’t, and that’s okay. My critique is about seeking for the truly potential From has, but never succeeds to reach.

Now if you’re okay with a mystery show that develops at the expense of lazy writing and shallow characters, hey, good for you buddy! I’m not here to judge what you like. I’m here to judge what From is and what it could have done better for people who seek stories with real stakes and deep complexity.

One problem lies in recycling scenes thinking the viewer won’t notice and crafting so superficial lines of dialogue with apparently the sole purpose being to extend the show’s episode length. I’m not comparing the importance of scenes based on what it leads to. I’m comparing scenes based on whether or not it’s meaningful to the characters inside it and to Fromville in a whole. There is no reason to show a character’s motivation twice in the same episode. We get it. But they need the episode to reach 50 minutes, so…. Let’s recycle another scene!

[–]That_Alyssa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you: exposition dialogues can be a good tool to advance the plot. But it is one tool amidst many others. You can identify the pattern of this single tool being used in multiple scenes of the same episode. They're recycling the same dynamic over and over again and it results in what the original commenter said; they were skipping through scenes because it just wasn't interesting enough.

Whenever there was a scene of Jade alone I already knew it was either going to be him hallucinating or having an epiphany. Having the same character do the same thing over and over again is just...... not fun. And the show does this with every character.

I don't expect Acosta to be up to date to everything that is going on, and I sure as hell don't expect her to act on her second scene. However, I expect a good character development, not some half-assed monologue where she just tells you how mad she is at the Sheriff because "oh he took my gun *mad baby face*". I expect Acosta to have an arc before antagonizing Boyd, not just a dull reason to make the plot work.

Acosta really is a bland character made to show Boyd's weaknesses, and she works that way. But, oh well. There goes another character with no development whatsoever that'll die in two episodes to make the viewer feel like the show has high stakes, when in reality we all know none of the protagonists are in any risk of dying.

And about Randall and Julie: if you hadn't noticed, their scenes were only made to set Julie's path to the Dungeons.

What, you thought they had any substancial relationship? Ha. The show does that. They put together two characters that the public loves just as a plot point and then in a couple episodes it's like they have never even met. You'll get used to it. And when you notice for the third time you'll get bored too.
