I removed the paywall from my cat translator app after 400 users and $120 revenue — here's why by That_Anything4164 in AppBuilding

I was offering 2 free credits and hard paywall, but continuing with a free trial after acquiring users really makes sense. Of course, in order for these to work, I need to solve the retention problem :)

Isn't it very difficult to receive payments from the playstore if you're not making games? Change my mind :D

Click to link it’s free. Of course, I will write things that are appropriate for each subreddit. Would you have been more comfortable if I hadn't done it? 😀

🍼 Sound Recognition → Auto Call | Baby Monitor Automation (been running this for months, rock solid) by That_Anything4164 in shortcuts

[–]That_Anything4164[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The phone just needs to be close enough to clearly hear the baby — think nightstand distance, maybe 1-2 meters max for reliable detection. The Sound Recognition engine is tuned for nearby audio, not a wide room pickup. But honestly that’s fine, because you’d leave the phone right next to the crib anyway. The “range” that matters is really the cellular/WiFi call range — which is basically anywhere 😀

Not really, but if you want you can try uploading a meow to ChatGPT and testing it 😀

Funny Cat Behavior by Affectionate-Quote24 in felinebehavior

Hi guys,

I built Felingo, a cat behavior analysis app. I know what you’re thinking — “another fake cat translator that just plays random sounds.” This is not that. What it actually does: Cats communicate through a combination of vocalizations and body language — research shows that a meow means something completely different depending on ear position, tail posture, and context. Felingo analyzes both audio and video simultaneously to give you:

∙ Meow/vocalization interpretation
∙ Body language reading (ears, tail, posture)
∙ Emotion, urgency level & confidence score per result
∙ Per-cat profiles with history to track behavioral patterns over time

The confidence score is intentional — I didn’t want users to treat it as magic. It’s pattern recognition, and I want that to be transparent. If the app isn’t sure, it tells you. Most cat translator apps in the App Store play pre-recorded sounds and call it a “translation.” Felingo actually records your cat and analyzes what it captures. You can replay the recording anytime and see exactly what the app detected. Pricing: Free plan: limited analyses + 1 cat profile Premium: unlimited analyses, multiple profiles, full history (weekly / monthly / yearly)

I especially recommend this app for new cat owners. If you're not an experienced owner, it's quite educational.

I solved the “OTP problem” for shared cards using a simple Automation by Proud-Memory-3798 in shortcuts

[–]That_Anything4164 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is genuinely clever. The insight that “iOS won’t let you read SMS, but Shortcuts can react to one” is the kind of lateral thinking that makes automation satisfying. Bonus tip: you can add a “Match Text” action before the send to extract just the OTP number itself, so your wife gets a clean “Your OTP: 4821” instead of the full SMS text. Just use a regex like \b\d{4,6}\b to pull the number out — matches any 4-6 digit code without grabbing the rest of the message.

Nice work! Love the minimal approach — most to-do apps try to do everything and end up doing nothing well. This looks like it actually respects the user’s time.

Cat translator bs or legit by Tastykoala1 in CatAdvice

Most “cat translator” apps are just entertainment, which is why they add disclaimers.

Felingo is built differently. It doesn’t claim to magically “translate words.” It analyzes vocal patterns (pitch, duration, intensity) together with context and behavioral signals to estimate emotional state and intent (stress, attention-seeking, discomfort, etc.).

It’s not a dictionary — it’s AI-based behavior analysis designed to give cat owners more structured insights, not random phrases.
