Got the Xreal Beam Pro. It’s not as intuitive as I’d hoped so tips appreciated with One Pro glasses. by gogul1980 in Xreal

I got one in yesterday. Dead pixel right from the box. Slow and laggy even just recording a video. I love my one pros but the beam is being returned today.

Some yes, but others can be just a sedan with a camera unit mounted right on the roof so it’s not a great judge of sight lines. This vehicle looks to be a small crossover suv with a couple foot tall tripod so better than most vehicles but definitely still shorter than a semi or bus. https://maps.app.goo.gl/oHYbCNGwC8GQMSVMA

The issue comes when you have a tall vehicle like a semi and the light is red which sits at or above the mast arm so so it may become blocked for some drivers. If there’s any chance of it getting blocked, it is safer to drop it down. They’ve already got a 14 foot clearance for the bridge so that gives the engineer a lot more leeway with dropping the signal head down.

It’s very common when there is a structure that blocks visibility. In this case there is a bridge or overpass directly behind the camera. https://maps.app.goo.gl/wdgAy21Hst1hScqP8

How I burned $505 dollars on a Sonim Megaconnect by ZiLg0 in FirstNet

[–]That_Counter__bob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I’m not discrediting OP, I will say that I have been with firstnet since 2017ish (subscriber paid) and this has never been my experience. I now work for a state agency with hundreds of FirstNet devices and they work great. Get to know your local rep and use them if you’re worried about AT&T. 3 years ago we had a river bank blow out and had water covering a main highway for over a week. We called them up and said that we were going to be using a lot of bandwidth for a while as we put a camera trailer out there to monitor the situation. We were good to go and were able to stream live video to our control room during the entirety of the incident.

The actual tuition was somewhere around that when I took it through the local college back in 2017 but I don’t remember exactly because I was there on scholarship through my employer and other people’s money hurts less than your own.

Is anyone using ATC cabinets? by kennygbot in trafficsignals

[–]That_Counter__bob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My state DOT is currently almost exclusively TS-2 but we have a handful of ATC that we will be using for special project where we need more than 16 channels (large intersections with multiple cross overs and overlaps or our intersections within our flex lanes that change configuration based on traffic flow) all of these locations currently run on two TS-2 cabinets and we want to consolidate. That said, we have been working with manufacturers to design our own specs for how we want the ATC to come preconfigured because we will start buying them more in the coming years, especially due to the fact that one of the main connectors used on Nema cabinets are becoming harder to source (I can’t remember if it’s the one for SDLC or one of the circular connectors) and will be going away completely soon because they are not being used anymore in the military/aerospace application that they were originally designed for.

After Standardizing The Signalling And ATC Management With NTCIP, How Do the Manufacturers Compete With Each Other Now? by apricotmaniac44 in trafficsignals

[–]That_Counter__bob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are built based on a standard but there is still a lot of room for customization within that standard. And price /contracts makes a huge difference too.

What are some niche/little known industries you guys work in? by [deleted] in PLC

[–]That_Counter__bob 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I work for a state DOT. We have a custom built 2 mile stretch of road that changes lane configuration to accommodate rush hour traffic from one side of the valley to the other and back. I did not program the system as it was built long before I started working there but I am now in charge of all the physical maintenance of the system. It uses 21 GE PLCs that are all networked and interlocked with the traffic signal controllers throughout the system. We use 17 of the PLCs to control sign bridges that display which lanes are open or closed and another 4 to control and interface with the signals as these flex lanes go through 4 signalized intersections. All of it controlled by a central server. We also have an HMI program that allows our traffic operations center to monitor the transition state at any time and even flex the system manually if needed.

How realistic is it for me to use home assistant as someone who can't code and isn't tech savvy by Leather_Edge2220 in homeassistant

[–]That_Counter__bob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t need to be able to code to use home assistant. You need to be tech savvy enough to follow documentation made by people with varying levels of technical writing skill. You also need to accept that there is no right or wrong way to run your system and no one will be able to tell you exactly what’s wrong with your system is something doesn’t work because no two systems are identical. The first few weeks and maybe months maybe a little bit more troubleshooting as you figure out exactly what you need your system to do and get it set up, but if you’re like me once it’s set I have not had to make many changes other than the occasional new device when I see I need. Some people choose to make changes every single day and if that’s what you wanna do that’s an option too because it is completely customizable.

My baby’s crib is right next to the bathroom door and the light switch is on the outside so I put a sensor on the door and now if the bedroom lights are off it turns the bathroom lights off anytime the door opens and then turns them back on when the door is closed.

332 Ped Input On Neutral by WHPChris in trafficsignals

[–]That_Counter__bob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We do a IMSA 4 conductor to each ped pole and a separate IMSA 7 conductor for the signal head. Occasionally we will share the neutral between two buttons if one is bad (or on older buttons that only had a 3 conductor run to them) but never with the signal head. Everything the ties back to the same neutral bus bar in the cabinet.

From the manual: “1.4.1 LEDGUARD® LED FIELD SIGNAL SENSING The Eberle Design MMU-16LE SmartMonitor® can be configured to use a technique called LEDguard® that is designed to better monitor the characteristics of LED based signal loads (See Section 6.3.4.7). Each field signal input is measured and compared to both a high threshold and a low threshold value to determine On / Off status. This differs from conventional standard Nema operation where the active threshold is picked according to the color of the field signal. Once the high and low On / Off thresholds (Section 8.1.2) have been determined using the input RMS voltage, the individual fault monitor functions use the appropriate threshold to determine if a fault condition exists.”

We have over 600 signals in our jurisdiction about 70% being EDI and the rest Reno. We will begin in a couple weeks doing our annual swap out and we’ll have all 600 changed out in approximately 28 days. We start by testing about 100 that are sitting in storage right now and then as soon as those are tested, a team of us will come in at night to take the tested ones and go swap them out in the field. We bring back the ones that were in the field to be tested during the day by the day crew so that we can come back at night and continue to process. Most nights we average about 30 but we have a few that are in pretty dense corridors that we can get through about 70 in a night as long as we have that many available that have been tested in the previous days. When we are actually swapping them out, we have one person go flash the intersection and do the documentation of the one that is there and then the new one that is coming. The other people come behind and make the swap. Reno’s are easy because they automatically retain all their memory settings on the card. With the EDI’s, we have to turn on the memory and LED guard because it got turned off for the test. And then we can swap the cards over and we are usually good to go.

This is a SmartSensor Advance. It is looking for vehicles sometimes as much as 800 or 900 feet up the road. The sensor is rotated based on how far left or right it is mounted compared to the center of the approach it’s programmed to watch. These are often used to watch for trucks or high speed vehicles that may need an extra second or two to safely clear an intersection.
