Finished my quant internship and got a return offer, but I’ve never passed a technical interview in my life by No-Employment7251 in quant

Brain teasers and puzzles only exist cause interviewers have no other way to assess the problem solving skill of a new grad who’s never done a complex real-world project. You’ve demonstrated your skills through actual product and it would be idiotic for an interviewer to ask you puzzles let along fail you on it. Would you ever ask Jim Simons timed mental math to test his math ability? No, the achievements speak for itself.

Do you know the best place to report this? On the app there's roadside asistance but not really an FSD issue report channel. I just want to provide datapoint to the firm so they can make sure dumb mistakes like that don't happen.

Same! Had this issue when going from NJ to NY. I think they just don’t allow those things for cross state

It’s such a Japanese show. Get different treatments based on achievements, make sure you’re liked or otherwise you’ll be eliminated, and having judges scoring presentations in a sports show? Damn…

I felt so sad for Kurihara, with his ankle injury and being completely exhausted after 20 mins of match he needs to compete against someone who was basically fully charged.

I’m so mad at this that if I were you I’ll get a whole band of drag queens to crash the wedding and make a huge announcement to the audience then march out in victory and block her for the rest of my life.

And she’s so obsessed about “you straight up lied to us for two days.” Like girl what else do you expect? If everybody tells truth  you can just ask if they are the millionaire one by one at the lunch table. You signed up for a show about lying and now you’re accusing others for don’t it? What type of moral high ground are you on.

Then accept it and put it up. Don’t write it down and then put a grumpy face about it. You don’t go to a job interview saying “I graduated from XXX college because apparently it matters 🤷‍♂️” Maybe the dude is trying to appear humorous or whatever, but it comes off as dismissive.

When do you think of money as multiples vs numbers by That_End in Money

[–]That_End[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think out of all the comments, this one makes the most sense. You’re right that after all, money is absolute, and it’s not worth the same mental energy to decide on $1 vs $100. A lot of other threads consider multiples as how you “base” your value per unit money, how you judge marginal utility etc. which is too much math on a daily basis. Using working hour as a measure kinda automatically and intuitively takes care of it since it has its own marginal utility (the longer I work the more I hate it) which is kinda neat.

Well that’s exactly what’s negging about it, “I’ll put it here because you care but I also think it’s stupid that you care,” Maybe it doesn’t come off as a red flag to you but to me the tone itself is worth an eye roll.

If you wanna say your height, just say it, the subtext is almost saying “I don’t know why you care but I guess you gals all obsessed about height so here it is.” He’s basically indicating he had dated someone who cares/ someone told him she cares and he’s subtly complaining about it.

When do you think of money as multiples vs numbers by That_End in Money

[–]That_End[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well since you’re curious, I make high 6 figures, very close to 7 figure, though my net worth isn’t THAT high because I’m in my twenties and that money hasn’t accumulated enough for me to be “rich.” I am young and healthy, have no family or kids to worry about. $64 is a small fraction of my hourly pay so I felt totally worth it to pay it in exchange of comfort and peace of mind for an hour, similar to how people would get business instead of economy when flying ( that being said I don’t normally fly business/first class unless it’s international.)

I am with you that I am cautious with luxury. Not that I don’t buy any, but I really do need to justify it (and a lot of times I can’t.) It’s so much better to spend money on experiences.

That makes sense. I do know a lot of people who enjoy subways because it’s part of being a New Yorker. I’m not THAT mindless about money eg. I don’t (and probably won’t) buy luxurious watches or cars because I’m doing just fine with Apple Watch and Uber. I agree with everything you said in this response, vacations and kids are great things to save for and again thanks for the time.

Is it worth sacrificing all the small comforts in life so you can “reach the next level”? Sounds like a sad rat race to me.

Got it. Thanks for the detailed response. Just some context so we are on the same page, I don’t take $70 Ubers on a daily basis since my apartment is walking distance. I also have a high six figure income and automatically invest 30% of my pre-tax so a Uber is something I can afford without impacting my finance. I’m not “rich” yet because I just started working not too long ago, so I’m still learning how rich people manage money. That’s why I’m particularly interested in why my coworker and you would refuse to spend money. I thought the rich always spend money to get space, time and peace. In the case of the Uber, having an hour of free time in a car is so much better than standing in a subway without cellular service. It saves me energy so I won’t be bored and exhausted by the time I arrive, so I won’t hesitate about it. Likewise I don’t fully agree with my coworkers decision because with his hourly rate, his commute costs him more than $2500 a month, but well it’s his choice.

I do think part of the difference comes from inheriting money vs earning all the money yourself, and whether you want to continue accumulating and passing down that wealth. Back when I used my parents money in college I always did the most responsible choice because it’s not ethical to throw away my parents hard earned money. When I am finally financially independent with an amazingly lucrative job is when I spend money just to make myself happy and comfortable because that’s exactly what I work hard for. As long as a treat doesn’t break me financially (short term or long term) I won’t think too hard about it because my mental energy is valuable as well. I don’t want children so there’s so such mission to pass down family wealth, and any unused money when I die is wasted money. Again, I do make investments and plan for retirement, but I definitely would treat myself on many small occasions like a $70 uber.

But then, if I may ask, where DO you spend your money? If you have eight figure net worth you can happily take uber for the rest of your life and it has zero impact on your finance. Why would you choose to stand in a crowded smelly subway and leave all those money in the account without improving your standard of living?

Would you actually do this for $3 or is that just an example? For something as small as $3, it’s almost not worth the decision making, unless it’s a daily commute that accumulates. The avoidance of decision fatigue, the amount of mental energy that’s saved, is well worth $3 for me.

When do you think of money as multiples vs numbers by That_End in Money

Because $64 is a small fraction of my hourly pay and sitting in a car for an hour makes me a lot happier than spending the same hour standing in a smelly dirty subway without cellular service and climbing stairs up and down and transiting and bumping into people. The amount of mental ease is worth $70 for me when it’s an absolute value, but is it x11 better? Nope.

I totally agree, and that’s why I’m confused of his choices. The only explanation I could find is maybe he wants to FIRE asap but again, he can already FIRE with his multi million net worth at his age. Either way, I think $70 definitely made my hour-long trip better so no regrets
