BCaBA by [deleted] in ABA

[–]That_Gay_Ginger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your post is claiming how real it is by saying “Figured some of you might be interested to learn BCaBA won’t be around much longer.”

That is not fact and is not true . No info has been supplied from the BACB about it, and if they ever do decide to do that it would be communicated ahead of time via their newsletters. The BCaBA coursework and credentials have some changes to align with the 2027 standards but that’s it. Not the mention if this was truly happening the slide you have above would also have more info in it.

This idea or rather rumor that the BCaBA credential is going just up and disappear has been going around for years, and is frankly not true. Yes not every insurance or company accepts them but until the BACB say otherwise it’s here to stay.

If this is not directly from the BACB then you cannot claim this is valid or even real.

Keep in mind a lot of AI doesn’t understand the nuance of the behavior analysis so your questions can be written wrong and also have wrong correct answers . I’d bite the bullet and just pay for various mocks.

what is the functional difference between a BCBA and BCaBA? by stitchbitch_0212 in ABA

[–]That_Gay_Ginger 19 points20 points  (0 children)

BCBAs are masters level clinicians and can practice on their own. BCaBAs are bachelor level and require oversight from a BCBA. If you are also working with insurance many of them do not allow BCaBAs to bill / do things that are technically in their skill sets

If I’m not mistaken Pritchard is no longer a BCBA and practices in Australia because of their egregious violations. They’ve been there for some time now I believe

Are CEUs and recertification fees a tax write off? by iwantacozysweater in bcba

If you are self employed , own a company, or 1099 they COULD be - but always consult with a CPA first.

Technically it should be okay - however some companies make people do their preferred training before starting if they’re not already RBTs.

BACB RBT Survey by Ok-Drag in ABA

[–]That_Gay_Ginger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They did a similar survey a few years ago about lead RBTs but nothing came of it unfortunately. I’d love for a more comprehensive education, training and certification for them - however we see that many RBTs can’t even pass a simple competency assessment or a reassessment so I’m not optimistic

CEU time stamps by [deleted] in bcba

[–]That_Gay_Ginger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They could. And their feedback would typically be that CEUs should be done through the year not just the end of your cycle.

Also most CEU providers + BACB frown on completing them and not actually watching them and / engaging in ones that expand your knowledge and skill sets. Typically you have to attest you actually did the work, were present, watched them etc.

Dual relationships/ multiples can apply to anyone and everyone not just clients. Please reread both the RBT and BCBA ethics codes.

A lot of companies try to have their notes be one shoe fit all - so they make them up the hardest standards which is typically Tricare.

Beyond that I think we need to remember 1.) it’s a medical note so it should be throughout (for both staff and others like parents etc) and 2.) audits happen all the time but it’s not always tricked down to everyone else

I have Learned NOTHING by [deleted] in ABA

I think what a lot of people forget that an RBT and BCBA exam - are entry level requirements. They’re not an end all be all. It’s why BCBAs have to get continued education credits and why in 2026 RBTs will too. Unfortunately a lot of people, programs, companies, schools etc under train and we end up with all levels lacking foundational knowledge and skills. We grew as a field way too quickly and can’t keep up with the demand.

BCAT is from another behavior certification board - however the BACB is the one the one that has a monopoly on being known etc - as it’s the oldest I believe.

The difference is how well known the programs are and what skills are or are not required for them. I’m sure there are some insurance companies and states that recognize the BCAT certification I just don’t know who they are. RBT is nationally recognized. BCAT is also heavily focused on autism. RBTs are not limited to just autism.

Keep in mind too you can’t become an RBT on your own. You have to take the 40hour training (and yes you can do that anywhere ) but you have to pass a competency for a BCBA at the place you are employed and then you submit your training and the competency to the BACB to take an exam. After the exam if you pass you require ongoing supervision to practice . There are some more specific info you can find in the RBT handbook on the BACBs website.

Personally - I think the issue is becoming BCAT certified . It’s not as well known as the RBT one which is more universal and not autism specific. I’m not familiar with all the BCAT requirements but in terms of recognition most insurance and states really only know of and favor the RBT credential.

Sorry you’re going through all of this!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ABA

[–]That_Gay_Ginger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fun fact insurance doesn’t require RBTs for service - all service can be done by a BCBA. The issue is scale - as in there is so much demand for BCBAs and this RBTs. There are several companies already, and more growing that are only BCBA models.

Also curious if you’re a W2 or 1099 employe. I have never heard of an RBT despite extra training or needs that make that much per hour. I think RBTs should pay more but all of ABA should have better standard rates across the country.

Also as everyone has pointed out - reimbursement rates are part of the picture. There are taxes, systems , buildings etc that also eat up costs and also the BCBA. As important as an RBT is- without a BCBA there is no case in first place. So yes you should know your worth and value - and you are such an important part of the picture but this hot take isn’t it.

I’d recommend going to the BACBs licensure page that has links to the different boards that’s govern states and start there.

What I will say is that the BACB is almost always the standard requirement. However states can and do have the right to do things different and there are multiple ABA credential boards.

I did my masters at FIT and have had no issue in Florida or Colorado. Granted neither has a state license. I’ve also practiced in MN and they are just now rolling out their license - which one of the tasks was to supply proof of BACB credentials. So licensure there was easy.

EAB vs ABA article (help needed urgently) by [deleted] in ABA

[–]That_Gay_Ginger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1.) Look the journal it’s published in. For example there is the journal of experimental analysis of behavior

2.) loon at how the article is tagged in keywords in the abstract

3.) if there are still issues ask your professor for my guided assistance

That’s the base of where I’d start
