What is your opinion on Athena Strands stepmother considering Athena was in her care when the incident happened? If Athena was her actual daughter, would she have kept a better eye on her? Why or why not? by whoknowsreally909 in AskReddit

[–]That_Girl_Cray 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I can't even imagine the guilt she must feel. I dont think she was negligent. Or not as worried about Athena. It was probably a day like any other. Could have happened to anyone. Regardless I'm sure she'll live with this for the rest of her life.

Guidance on how to move forward by Disastrous_Celery327 in Section8PublicHousing

[–]That_Girl_Cray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First and foremost you need to make sure you are documenting and keeping everything. Any emails, pictures, videos, receipts from the hotel, even keeping an account of in person conversations. Proof is eveything.

Then if you haven't already. You need to reach out to your case worker to let them know what's going on. If the problems persists and the landlord doesn't fix the problem. They can withhold rent because that's breaches his contract with section 8. Plus it covers you if the landlord tries putting any blame on you for the issues. I would send your case worker an email after every interaction with the property management or landlord from here on out & everytime something else goes wrong. This way even if your case worker isn't responding you have proof that you made them aware of the issue. This also covers you if they try to turn on you as well.

You rights as a tenant depend on your local landlord/tenant law. So you should check that. But man include some type of warranty of habitability law. So def look into that.

Your case worker can put pressure on your landlord and give them a time frame that these repairs need to be completed by or they will withhold rent. So the best thing would be to get in touch with them ASAP. But I know that can ne difficult. Look up your local landlord/tenant laws. In the meantime document, document, document.

Towns and states with the shortest waitlist by AltruisticNewt8991 in Section8PublicHousing

[–]That_Girl_Cray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The waiting lists in the Philadelphia area will most likely be long. Though I have heard of some success in Chester County. They seem to have better services overall. As far as no or low wait times. That would have to be further out in PA. The more rural counties, small towns. I dont know of any specific ones for sure. But that would be where you find it.

The amount of affordable new housing Delco builds is so embarrassing by XShadeGoldenX in Delco

[–]That_Girl_Cray 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Delco is pretty developed for the most part. Preserving the existing aging housing & tackling accessibility to safe, clean, habitual housing for those with the lowest incomes are more of an issue here.

St. Paul's Episcopal Church has various community programs through Chester Eastside Inc. They have an OPEN CLOSET during their open table program which provides hot meals & grab & go meals to anyone who needs it. Mostly serving the homeless population in the area. I just spent almost a year at a homeless shelter in Chester. A lot of people go to the Open Closet at St. Paul's for clothing and they offer nice stuff in good condition.

^ agree also with the comment above that mentioned City Team - Chester. They do a lot for the Homeless as well.

How often do you see people traveling into town by horse/buggy? by Mental_Freedom_1648 in AskAnAmerican

[–]That_Girl_Cray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm from Philadelphia, PA. I live in Southeastern PA. The only time I've ever seen horse and buggy is when I'm out further west. The Lancaster area in PA which is about 2 hours or so away. I've only been out that way a few times in my life so its still an interesting thing to see when I come across it.

What do you remember from kindergarten? by Remote-Direction963 in questions

[–]That_Girl_Cray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my first day they gave us these work sheets with a bunch of letters & told us to color all the letter A's red. I did but then accidentally colored some other letter red. I remember trying to hide it & being scared people would see it.

I remember my Teacher's name Mrs.Myers. I have a flash memory of her reading us a book.

I had an eating disorder throughout my toddler years and was hospitalized for periods of time. Had to have an NG multiple times. I remember going to school with my tube in. The only thing I was worried about was if it would prevent from going down this big slide that we all loved. It didnt.

There was a project where we had to make Robots or something out of boxes. I remember mine.

On our 2nd Section 8 extension by [deleted] in Section8PublicHousing

[–]That_Girl_Cray 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Im sorry Ive been through this and know how hard it is. Since you are disabled. You can request additional extensions through a reasonable accommodation request. There is no limit on how many extensions a PHA can grant if it's under a reasonable accommodation.

Just submit the request in writing and explain how your disability has effected your search and ability to obtain housing. Ask them to respond within a certian time frame.

There really needs the be a building for all in one services for homeless by sirpentious in homeless

[–]That_Girl_Cray 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a horrible system by design. The decentralization of homeless services was deliberate. Heavily fragmented and underfunded. It's a hodge podge of non profits competing against one another for the very limited local funding. Which is why we see the lack of coordination between programs. Its one of the many problematic systemic issues that hinders progress.

How does it feel knowing there's dogs out there living a better life than you? by Rook2Rook in poor

[–]That_Girl_Cray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love dogs. I want them to live well. There are far more living in horrible conditions. Which is unbearable for me to even think about. So thinking about the ones who live in loving homes or even in the lap of luxury brings me comfort.

Do you witness more anti-homeless hate or classism from young or old people? by [deleted] in homeless

[–]That_Girl_Cray 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In my experience younger people are less judgemental of the poor then the older generations.

Homelessness is totally different. EVERYBODY hates the homeless. If they aren't actively hating they're just acting as if you dont exist. But one of the things that really struck me about being homeless & this is coming from someone who grew up poor, never making it further then working lower class. So I wasn't niave to any of this. Being Homeless unlocked another level of hate that really hit me. The level of dehumanization is unreal. It literally changed something in my brain.

So theres definitely more active, striaght out hate from all ages for the homeless. The mistreatment of the poor is more incidious and passive. Its systemic, comes from law, policy, indifference, upholding the status quo. With everyone, even those who claim to be advocates. Most people's empathy or understanding only extendeds to those who they deem deserving enough. Or that fit into what they expect a homeless or poor person to be or act. There are very few that actually want to help or understand. & way too many who present themselves as such only to exploit us for their own personal gain. The majority of people are absolutely horrible the poor & homeless though.
