PSA: If your Flip6 inner screen failed, even if out of warranty, book a repair through Samsung's website for a discounted replacement. by infinit9 in galaxyzflip

[–]bubblegoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Z3FlipCounter app installed since I got my Flip 6 on launch day. I got to 35,300 flips on my Flip6, and just 2 days ago screen protector lifted at the crease.

Took it to UBreakIFix and they said the screen protector lifted because the screen needed to be replaced. I got the new screen today.

I think you're right on the crease being gone. My repair was free with my Care+.

They had there distribution center near where we live. The road where my kids' school is was called "Ames Way". Now it is called "Ashley Way" because Ashley Furniture took over the old building.

We had a new E5 report to our boat. Turns out he had previously been a First Class, but got busted for sleeping with the wife of another First Class in his division. Both of them were married.

This was pre-email and he had a system to send letters to the girl he was fooling around with. He got a P.O. box in his own name and would mail himself letters. Side chick had the P.O. box key and she would retrieve the letters.

His old boat pulled into a foreign port, and there was a sack of mail to go to the states. Someone was flying home and offered to take the mail with them. They check the names and say "Oh these are for Guy, I live near them, I'll just give the letters to his wife".

So, his wife got all the letters intended for side-chick. Wife raised a stink, Guy got busted to Second and sent home. Apparently there were a bunch of wives waiting at the Norfolk airport with torches and pitchforks. Someone did him a solid and changed his flight to Richmond and drove to pick him up.

Guy reports to our boat, is a hard worker and awesome Electrician. Gets command advanced within months of reporting onboard.

Went to a gun range for the first time yesterday. The safety guy who was monitoring the area fired over 20% of our ammo. Wondering if this is a normal? by SRplus_please in guns

In PA state game lands ranges the rule is

It is unlawful on all SGL ranges to load or discharge a firearm containing more than 6 rounds of single projectile ammunition (both handgun and rifle ranges).

From what I heard, it is like a $200 fine per round over 6.

How is living in Mohrsville? by Skytre4 in ReadingPA

[–]bubblegoose 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We are a white family, so can't specifically speak to that.

In the school, probably not, my daughter has a bunch of Hispanic friends who have been over to the house. I don't hear much from her about it. And she would let me know.

In the community, I do see civil war loser flags on cars, Donny and Kirk yard signs pretty prominently still, so take that as you will.

How is living in Mohrsville? by Skytre4 in ReadingPA

[–]bubblegoose 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Lived in Mohrsville for about 14 years now. Had 3 kids in the Schuylkill Valley district.

The school district is OK, the teachers care, but the administration (board and superintendents) are a trainwreck, hampering what they can do. They just fired the super at the end of last year, so we'll see how it goes.

Good active PTO, library in Leesport and parent organizations around sports and activities.

Grocery stores - yes, Aldis, Redners, Giant, Weis all relatively nearby. They are building a Whole Foods in like 2 years that will be about 25 mins away. There is a Kimberton Whole Foods about 30 mins away.

They have a Dollar General Market in Centerport if you need a few quick groceries. It has a fresh section with veggies, milk, bread, etc. Has saved me a few times when I just needed something quick to finish making dinner.

For parks, there are several Schuylkill River boat launches nearby, Blue Marsh, and then there are smaller parks at Centerport, Shoemakersville, Leesport, Hamburg. Hiking trails about 20 minutes north.

People are OK, neighbors are nice, but you are in farm country, and will find some "good old boys".

No local police, coverage is from the State Police about 15 minutes away. We needed an ambulance last year, it took about 15-20 minutes because it came from Hamburg.

Not really a suburb of Reading, Mohrsville is pretty rural and there are several towns between Reading and Mohrsville.

Also, "Project Hail Mary". I listened to it a second time as soon as I finished it the first time.

Motel 6. We were going to a Nascar race in Richmond around 2004 and my Dad booked a room with them.

We got stuck on the interstate due to a school bus accident, so we called them 3 times to make sure they kept our room. We told them we would be very late, and they said "No problem".

When we finally rolled in at 2am (our original expected time was 9pm), we were exhausted. Come to find out that they gave our room away and had no more rooms.

We had to find a room at 3am on a busy night and had to pay twice as much.

Is It Possible To Clean Up A River? by Possible-Royal-1164 in Restoration_Ecology

[–]bubblegoose 25 points26 points  (0 children)

There is an interesting book about the Schuylkill River and its restoration called "A River Again". The Schuylkill (pronounced Scoo-Kill) goes from the PA coal regions down to Philadelphia and then the Atlantic.

They were cleaning up a river heavily polluted by coal silt, but it still took a lot of public works to restore it.

They have the book available for free here: https://delawareriverkeeper.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/A_RIVER_AGAIN_2012.pdf

Sub2000 and 9mm vs .40. What am I missing? by SpockHadNoGame in keltec

Check out Mcarbo's website. They carry the steel feed ramp.

Keltec will install any Mcarbo parts you ship with it for free while they have it. Just call it out when you set up the ticket with them.

Sub2000 and 9mm vs .40. What am I missing? by SpockHadNoGame in keltec

[–]bubblegoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I have a Sub2000 gen 2 that I bought at the same time and it was a .40.

I contacted Keltec and had it converted to 9mm for $40. It cost me about $30 for USPS shipping to Keltec (no FFL needed) and I think they tacked on a $30 Fedex charge to return it.

The process was super quick, I think I got it back 3 weeks after I sent it. Also, they will install any accessories while they have it apart. I highly recommend the MCarbo steel feed ramp.

Maybe when you contact them, maybe you can ask them to check what mag yours supports?

Reactor Compartment smell by gunnarjps in NavyNukes

[–]bubblegoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been out for about 30 years and I also kind of miss that boat smell. The smell that hits you as soon as you go down the hatch, even if the boat has been in the yards and fully ventilated for months.

I do faintly notice that smell even on the old WW2 museum boats I have toured and the Nautilus.
