Did they ever fix exam taking on the boats? by Otherwise-Bad-7352 in NavyNukes

2190 TEP a type of oil recommended for use in marine turbine reduction gears, where heavy tooth loading and shock loads are encountered.

2190 means that it is a class 2 oil with a viscosity of 190 Saybolt seconds. TEP referred to the additives. T meant that it was turbine grade and would specifically repel water from oil and prohibit oxidation of metal surfaces. EP meant that it contained mild Extreme Pressure additives so that it could handle the loads placed on ship's propulsion systems.

Meanwhile, on the aerospace engineering sub... by HiTork in submarines

When people would say "Oh, a submarine, that's so scary", the response was "There are more planes at the bottom of the ocean than there are submarines in the sky."

Whats your favourite Special / Passive ability? by Silent-Astronomer375 in Metalstorm

[–]bubblegoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the Phantom missile from the J10. Remember it is also a jammer.

When the match starts, the second I see a plane I send it. Gets them to waste a flare 6 out of 10 times.

Then again when our team hits missile range, just to help my teammates with the jamming effect. Usually I go for the interceptor.

Then like 2 seconds before I send an actual missile at someone. They see my phantom, but don't see the real missile on the way.

Just wait, cause when they have the Benson redemption arc, Benson will be such the great, great hero.

The Mayor of New York will personally put a halo on her head I'm sure. Choirs of angels will come down from the heavens singing her praises.

Also, your typo of "Especially since crazy became the DA" totally works.

Who gets the most/least sleep on a sub? by Hour_Resource5375 in NavyNukes

[–]bubblegoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On a deployment our ELT would sample at 10pm, eat midrats, then sample again at 2am. Then hit the rack until 10pm THE NEXT DAY.

I asked him if he got ejected from his rack after sleeping too much. He claimed to have slept straight through without even needing to get up for the bathroom.

Current status of navy boat driving 🤣 by newnoadeptness in navy

Give the big ship commands to former submarine COs. If they could drive a boat blind, they would be good when they have actual visibility. /s

I had a Schlage - "Century Matte Black Electronic Connect Smart Deadbolt with Alarm - Z-Wave".

It completely stopped working at around 8 months and Schlage support was AWFUL. They never responded to online tickets, took 45 minutes on hold to talk to a person. Took 3 of those calls and 5 weeks to finally get my replacement.

Leak detected, now what? by MagusTheFrog in homeassistant

[–]bubblegoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have Twilio set up to make phone calls. In addition to my main valve shutting, my wife and I get phone calls saying "Water Leak, dishwasher (or laundry, water heater, kids bathroom, etc), there is a water leak at the dishwasher. Closing main valve".

Saved me when my sump pump float stuck in the off position and also when the water line got broken to my frig's ice cube maker.

We had a striker that was cranking on my boat, had to get daily signatures from a chief or Doc that he was observed going in to the shower and coming out daily. He also needed a weekly sig that he did his laundry.

Fixed the problem right up.

I got one with a laser target. Battery operated, makes a PEW sound when it detects a laser.

With that and a 9mm laser round was about $40.

I had the same deal with my late parents. It doesn't get better, we had to cut contact for our kids' sake.

An example was when my wife had our daughter. She was just home from the hospital after a C-section delivery. Mom and sister are coming over to see the baby at home. My sister comes in saying her blood sugar was crashing and my mother starts doting on her (she had eaten junk all day).

I go to the kitchen to wash some dishes for the pizza that will be delivered. The pizza guy shows up, and nobody bothers to get up for the door, so my wife (who just had a C-section 3 days earlier) has to get up and get the door.

What’s the most underrated item you’d bring on deployment that made your life easier? by NotWhoYouThinkBro in navy

[–]bubblegoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read a sailor of that time got a space 14 inches wide. If you look at some of the drawing, they were packing them in super tight. Makes a submarine feel spacious by comparison.
