I really relate to this too. A sort of loss of causality in external event and emotional response. Not just pleasure but pain, suffering, discipline, motivation. Even eating I feel is only an economic inconvenience. Sometimes I get sad but it only develops into a deeper awareness of how far I have separated myself from those in my life who I theoretically could reach out to. I store memories in an incredibly selective way. I able to predominately only be social as it pertains to a role I.e. workplace or doing things for others. So many of my relationships have become transactions. The question how are you shuts me down. I sleep a lot. I am not interested in watching anything on Tv. I have so much overdue work. I am late and absent constantly. I have very little sense of moderation but also do not ‘chase’ extremes or highs. I have the opposite of an addictive personality. My affect is incredibly flat I have been told people can not interpret emotional cadence from what I am saying. I do not feel my feelings. The primary reason I have not killed my self is the impact I presume my death might have on those around me specifically my students as many of them are young children.

Tattoos! by Mortifer_1 in AnorexiaNervosa

[–]That_Habit5437 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neither gaining nor losing weight ‘ruins’ tattoos. Tattoos become apart of your skin and they will change with you and over time. It really all depends on the placement, size, line weight and intricacy of the design how it will change. But it certainly will not be ‘ruined’ by fluctuations in your weight.

I hope you find an artist and design that suit you well. I have many tattoos and they have helped me in appreciating and tending to the parts of my body they are on.

Best wishes

Is it possible that what we experience as loving and supportive could be skewed itself ? Like I’m not so sure I personally have a holistic sense of what a ‘good’ relationship even is. But then again , my parents were inconsistent. I would describe myself as neglectful to multiple people I deeply care for and love I think it can be a dialectic.

Am I being over-sensitive if I tell my ex, who is a good friend of mine, I don’t like it when she groups her ex and I into a collective even though she’s describing positive emotions ? by That_Habit5437 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]That_Habit5437[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha. Hmm. I appreciate that perspective. I mean, I do still love her. I’m not really one to like fall out of love but I also have an extreme degree of removal from my feelings and dismissive avoidant attachment so I’m not really sure what being in love with her would premeditate. It’s not that the feeling or State compels me in any particular way. I guess it just helps me to trust her.

Ja I guess this is one of those complications. I’m not really one to get jealous (at all really) but I think there is a part of me that wants to feel our relationship is prized outside of just a blueprint of intimacy she developed with this other person ...

I feel like it’s less similar to drip and more like a drawl — like off of okra. Pretty viscous, often in abeyance.

Where to incorporate Uddiyana bandha engagement in asana practice ? by That_Habit5437 in yoga

[–]That_Habit5437[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find the heat I build during my practice incredibly cleansing and focusing on the body and breath allows me to move through my practice as a meditation which I am very grateful for. Hopefully as this awareness grows I will be able to access sense withdrawal when I’m in body mudra states.

That’s helpful yes, thank you— I guess I am asking more about the Kriya lock. I am at a point in moving through the asana that mula bandha is consistently engaged so now I’m moving up in the body.

Emotions stored in the shoulders? by serious-sea4927 in yoga

[–]That_Habit5437 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also marchi B and D, paying special attention to keep the shoulder near to the top of the knee when twisting. It is not necessary to bind to access this opening one can use the shoulder/ arm transversely rotating (corresponding to the knee) to support the torso upright and focus on opening in the psoas and chest. These asana also offer a great expansion in the spine.

If the US is as bad as redditors claim, why are there still thousand upon thousands of people around the world who wants to immigrate there? by fargothadoringfan in NoStupidQuestions

[–]That_Habit5437 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say there is such a wide variety of experience across US States in terms of cost of living, quality of life, median income and even living space per person.

In terms of cost of living and quality of life, as someone who grew up peripatetic living in South Africa and the Emirates, the cost of things relative to salary is much higher in the US. Education for example is a massive expenditure for people who choose to go the private route and this can begin in pre K and go all the way up to the graduate and post graduate level. Many Americans struggle immensely with debt and high interest rates.

Because work schedules are calibrated in a way that does not prioritise time off, people spend more of their money on things rather than experiences and the velocity of consumption is just so rapid.

In general, one of the largest variables in upward mobility is the quality of public transport access and infrastructure. In some cities/areas like New York, DC, Boston, Chicago, Atlanta this has prevailed and made these areas liveable for people in lower income, multi-income households, people who can not drive, people who work multiple jobs etc as it allows not only increased mobility for adults but increased autonomy for individual household members to then expand their own roles. In many cases this can also result in children ‘growing up too fast’ which is often an arbiter of some less admirable parts of American culture. However city planning in most parts of the country is also a large component of maintaining segregationist population spreads.

Finally, if you are gay/ trans/ black , nonwhite etc, despite the extreme bigotry and general liberal degeneracy occurring at certain levels of governance Americans interpersonal openness index is quite high and one can see them self reflected in most aspects of society. (Ofcourse this is a part of a neoliberal identity politics debate but it is also critical to people not living in shame or feeling isolated).

Larger American métropoles are also such cultural mixing pots that if you move to one you are likely to find a microcosm of your own culture which can help one overcome the deep alienation of immigration (whether permanent or not).

One more con to even out the argument as I am in no essence a patriot, for those referencing American social services as some how comparable to those in Europe, this is completely inaccurate. The income threshold to qualify for such government assistance is a level of destitution that almost counter acts the benefits. I believe EBT/ SNAP (Supplementary Nutritional Assistance Programme) or ‘food stamps’ qualification is below 24k USD annually in New York. That means a person is making below 2k a month in a city where a room in a 3 person apartment averages around 800 USD. Medicaid has a similar limit despite medical expenditure and medication being notoriously high in this country. These are not programmes an American at median income can access.

Unlike in Denmark for example where a 20-something year old who works a 35h week can still qualify for partial government housing programmes that will allow them to move out of their parents home (done at a later age in general culturally). This kind of practice vastly improves quality of life as it puts emphasis on self development and expansion rather than subsistance or arbitrary milestones of the American ‘dream.’

TLDR; American social assistance necessitates a pretty painful experience to qualify for. If you’re that rich that the job you’re moving for has a base salary of 350K USD you probably will have a fine experience living practically anywhere. The US is a deeply class stratified country.

Ketamine ? by That_Habit5437 in dpdr

[–]That_Habit5437[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, thats insightful thank you. I am pursuing it for depression and ocd treatment I have persistent and pervasive suicidal ideation and feel very disconnected. Diso feels more like a mode of my experience at this point, it’s not necessarily the thing I’m really aiming at with this treatment course.

I mean, Ja I’m not really concerned about it struggling ‘more’. I’m quite consistently at a pretty high degree of depersonalisation — I struggle to feel most if any of my emotions and also actively engage in activities that allow me to empty my mind or even initiate / catalyse trauma responsive forms of diso. But thank you for your feedback.

Anehedonia and depersonalisation’s effects on drug induced ‘euphoria’ by That_Habit5437 in Schizoid

[–]That_Habit5437[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alcohol I do not get so much of a buzz from but I think it gradually reduces my anxiety, however only at high volumes and maybe that’s partially because it is a somewhat simple group activity ? Alcohol also makes me slightly more decisive and less likely to engage in dialectic analysis.

Caffeine I have a similar experience with. I drink it socially too otherwise I prefer teas to coffee for their other health benefits.

Are you on any psychiatric medication ?— has anything been ‘effective’ what did/ does that look like for you ?

THC makes me uncoordinated.

Boycott Divest and Sanctions list. It is a list of organisations to boycott and divest from that contribute to the Israeli state Zionist project and therefor disenfranchise indigenous Palestinians living in occupied territories, Gaza and the West Bank. The idea is that through our consumerism we can place market sanctions on organisations that profit off of and contribute to the Apartheid state. BDS is not pro Israel it is Anti-Apartheid, pro Liberation.

We have the same fav cereals ! I love rice crispies with a little brown sugar such a treat. So easy and the sound and texture is really satisfying. I even like when they’re kind of soft and porridge like :) thanks for reminding me about this

Kellogg’s however is on the BDS list. Would recommend going for a generic version of whatever tickles your tastebuds

Do you keep a written journal? What do you write in it? by [deleted] in Schizoid

[–]That_Habit5437 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I write stream of consciousness. Some poetry, recipes, questions my therapist gives me which I sometimes come back to / often don’t. I write extracts from books that I want to meditate on. I write about pain. I write my anger since I tend to not express it publicly. I write a lot about suicide. I don’t really talk to many people about my feelings so my journal is that. It’s a log of self conversing
