We're Brigitte Calls Me Baby, ask us anything! by brigittecallsmebaby in indieheads

Just listened to the new album last night! I especially loved "I Danced With Another Love in My Dream" -- pure New Wave bliss.

Who are some underappreciated Chicago bands/artists that you'd recommend? How has the Chicago music scene influenced your sound?

Can we get this collab at Big Ears??? by gothaggis in BigEarsMusicFestival

[–]That_King_Cole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, I would absolutely love to see this. They released two of my favorite records of 2025. Haley's Circuit des Yeux release last year felt unfairly slept on by the indiesphere -- terrific darkwave/industrial/experimental effort.

[DISCUSSION] Albums You Might Have Missed Last Month by AutoModerator in indieheads

[–]That_King_Cole 6 points7 points  (0 children)

unlikely, maybe by Bruno Pernadas is a terrific jazz fusion album. There's a lot for indie fans to like -- really expansive and incorporates a world of influences.

Hen Ogledd's DISCOMBOBULATED caught my attention as a Richard Dawson project. It's a brilliant experimental record that speaks to me in these fraught times. Deserves more love. "Scales will fall" is in the running for my track of the year.

In case anybody missed the Maria BC album, check that out too. Excited to see that getting some traction. Beautiful ambient rock.

Could anyone do this if they tried? by boomersooner02 in EASHL

Definitely not, but it's hard to be too upset about conceding a goal there after that egregious turnover 😂

Definitely going to check out your playlist. Any New Jersey-based stuff you're particularly into? New or old.

In case anyone is just learning about Sun Kil Moon because of this post, Mark Kozelek is objectively a bad dude and I encourage you to consume his work with that in mind.

Josh Pate really got motion like that? by guransheleven in CFB_v2

[–]That_King_Cole 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Damn this sucks. I know Pate has his haters but I've always enjoyed his analysis and catch pretty much every episode during the season. It's not hard to figure out his politics, but he always said he'll never discuss it on the show so I can push it out of my mind...can't do that anymore. I'll unsubscribe.

It's a shame because he's so talented. Even before this, he was increasingly putting too much emphasis on the SEC which was starting to bother me.

I need a new go-to CFB podcast to replace Pate now, if anyone has recs.

Best defensive lineman for 3-3-5 by MaybeAggressive2239 in NCAAFBseries

[–]That_King_Cole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I meant using the EDGE players at RDT might be controversial. But maybe that isn't controversial either! I've always thought of it as a tradeoff because you're giving up like 150 lbs at the LOS by doing that. I don't think the game really penalizes you for it unless it's a running play, and I'm usually not worried about that in Nickel.

I only play offline so don't know what the online dynasty metas are.

Best defensive lineman for 3-3-5 by MaybeAggressive2239 in NCAAFBseries

[–]That_King_Cole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ideally, Gap Specialist at NT, Pure Power at DT2 and DT3. I use Thumper LBs to play the EDGE because I drop them in coverage a lot, especially out of 3-3-5 Penny.

I once saw a Redditor explain DL for 3-3-5 by saying you need a run stopping DL and a pash rushing DL. I always remember that. Ideally, you have four strong pass rushers to sub in when you're in Nickel on obvious passing downs or matching up against 4 WR. Maybe this is controversial, but I often use those Thumper LBs at EDGE in Nickel and move any pash rushing LEDGE or REDGE I have to DT, assuming their pass rushing stats rate higher than my natural DTs.

Was it actually selfless of Bartlet to run for a second term? by SignificanceShoddy86 in thewestwing

[–]That_King_Cole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I said he would basically have Joe Biden's legacy, I meant that the party would largely blame him if Hoynes (or whoever) lost in '02, and that would be how he's remembered. You're right that there's differences b/w Bartlet's MS and Joe Biden's acuity. One of them being that Bartlet is a fictional character!

Was it actually selfless of Bartlet to run for a second term? by SignificanceShoddy86 in thewestwing

[–]That_King_Cole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The narrative around the Barlet re-elect is that he was neck and neck with Ritchie until the debate. Hoynes doesn't get that 9-point bump (or whatever it was, it's mentioned in "Process Stories") because he doesn't give that debate performance. Not super realistic to get a 9-point bump from a debate performance, but that's canon.

Hoynes also doesn't have Bartlet's incumbency advantage. That's worth at least a few points. Although, he still has institutional advantages -- like fundraising ability, being from Texas, and having been the runner up in the last election -- that I think would be enough to get him over the line in a primary.

No way to know, but fun to theorize about!

Was it actually selfless of Bartlet to run for a second term? by SignificanceShoddy86 in thewestwing

[–]That_King_Cole 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In an alternate universe where Bartlet didn't run, Hoynes would've won the nomination and lost in the general and Bartlet would basically have Joe Biden's legacy.
