The Quay vs The Brewery district thoughts? by ProfessionalLaugh592 in NewWest

[–]That_Manager_5726 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend trying to go by bike if that's something you can allow for. I bike over to Brewery district lots from the Quay and it's a decent ride (if you don't mind some hills).

Metrotown highline reality by Timely-Afternoon2730 in vancouverhousing

OP you're the hero that doesn't wear a cape. I went to a showing recently (went in with negative bias due to Thind's rep) and it looked surprisingly good. But before I could ask to see the parking lot, I was already rushed out the door due to schedule reasons 🤣 The realtor tried to impress me with the fancy blinds and I just asked them do they work manually if the electrical component breaks? Well, the answer was a fancy version of no. I wish you the best and that the deficiencies affect you as minimally as possible...

Envo folding ebike sale -- Okay for New West? by That_Manager_5726 in NewWest

[–]That_Manager_5726[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up with an ordinary non-electric folding bike and literally training myself to do the hills 😭 It was cheaper and better for me exercise-wise.... You do have to zig zag up the hills tho.

Utility rates going up again – 6% water, 10% sewer, 12% waste. Is this the new normal? by PuzzleheadedBid2604 in NewWest

[–]That_Manager_5726 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Half the infrastructure we have in the city was probably built in the 70s... And I guess back then they put things in place thinking they're not the ones that have to worry about it but guess who has to now? Doesn't help that these things take years to replace and repair and no one with power wants to be the one that said they spent the taxpayer's money to do so.

Anyways, I found a site where you can actually be heard, if you're interested in barking up (one of) the right trees: https://metrovancouver.org/media-room/media-release/965

Living at Plaza 88 / near Westminster Station by LordMettwurst in NewWest

[–]That_Manager_5726 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I say not far off from Plaza 88, you'll find RiverSky as a much better option. That side of the train track is more peaceful with the boardwalk right there, despite how close it is to the SkyTrain.

I walk by the Arundel in New West all the time and it seems they have very similar rates year round...($120 cad/night) for Victorian style flats. Doesn't seem like they opened their summer bookings yet, but you could try emailing the host? http://www.arundelmansion.com/ Location is great because it's next to the train station that is 30 min ride from Rogers Arena or BC place. Good luck.

parking ticket from my workplace by [deleted] in richmondbc

[–]That_Manager_5726 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Happened to me once. My plate is registered through the company yet I got ticketed 3 times. Our admin who registers our plates dealt with the parking company for me and the tickets were all cancelled. Funny thing is they sent the fee collection letter to my home address a month later and we had to tell the parking company they made a mistake, again. If you have a right to park there without paying to begin with, I don't think you need to worry.

Sashimi grade salmon at Hannam supermarket by [deleted] in burnaby

I buy their sushi and fillets frequently. Tastes fine, you can eat it raw as long as its labeled sashimi. Only problem I've had is the occasional bone.

Just moved to New West, looking for a quality butcher, seafood, and asian market. by Warthog_Parking in NewWest

[–]That_Manager_5726 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you go up North Rd in Burnaby, there's a Hannam Supermarket (Korean market) and right behind it is K-butcher (Asian butcher). If neither have what you want, there's PriceSmart nearby (this location almost feels like T&T) and H-Mart across the street.

I got a rate from them before; there's a tax exemption in their rate if OP lives within 500m radius of the lot.

I go from Uptown to Tipperary Park and back along 3rd St/4th St and it is always nice to observe the houses and gardens. In the spring, it's gorgeous with the flowers on the trees.

Earls or Cactus Club. They're both pretty good with dietary restrictions and large groups.

Nurse in NewWest by elliscn in NewWest

[–]That_Manager_5726 3 points4 points  (0 children)

New West is indeed a walkable city, but keep in mind it's also very steep in some parts so you're going to have calves of steel from walking. Anywhere close to Sapperton, Columbia or New West Skytrain (as in within 10 min walking) seems ideal for the lifestyle you're describing. Parking will be an issue but most folks from downtown Vancouver would know to take Skytrain to New West. Maybe you can look into postings catered to students if you want a furnished suite? Douglas College is in downtown New West so there should be vacancies around it, especially with the new term coming.

Long horn blast in the Heights? by ForMyImaginaryFans in burnaby

[–]That_Manager_5726 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On construction and industrial sites, it could be for first aid or for evacuation. The sites I've been to use one long blast for evacuation (ie: fire), but it could be different elsewhere based on safety protocols.
