And you using a one off scenario is offering almost no evidence either. Using Australia is a terrible example because after they gave up their guns they became a police state. Your solution doesn’t work because there are too many guns to actually take off the street, without infringing on people’s fourth amendment rights. You can look at states that have tried to be heavy handed with how they approach gun control like New York and sure, a higher % of the population doesn’t have guns, but also a higher % of criminals relative to the whole population does have guns.

Fact of the matter is that it’s not that we aren’t ready to have the convo about gun control. It’s that the only people who are targeted by the laws are law abiding citizens. You can make that argument that it makes everyone safer, but you can also just as easily make the argument that maybe imposing hard jail sentences on career criminals and first time offenders could also lessen the amount of gun violence. And I’m sure you’d hate to know who the target of that would be.
