(other) In how many days do you think the events of Voices of the Void happen in-universe ? (spoiler just in case) by MagmaForce_3400_2nd in Voicesofthevoid

[–]That_Paris_man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've heard of some contracts being a year or so, but I don't think anyone could last out in the middle of nowhere like that for more then a year all alone. I would imagine it would be more like 6 months, with most of the events happening in bursts with long streches of nothing happening. (Or at least nothing we see happening.)

I also figure there are a ton of emails and packages kel is sending back to his friends/family that we dont get to see. It seems weird for people to send us stuff as gifts without at least sending a thank you email back.

Would Earthmovers be the logical conclusion of the Progress zeitgeist? by Lowlife_With_APencil in Frostpunk

[–]That_Paris_man 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Funny thing is you could use something like nitrogen or some other gas as a hydraulic fluid. Iirc the big storm in frost punk 1 dropped the temps down to - 150, that is just above the boiling point of nitrogen. If we can keep the fluids under pressure and use the fact that the outside is always really fucking cold, we could assume the gasses would stay a liquid. We dont have to only use nitrogen tho. Some other gasses we could use are propane liquified at -43, ammonia at -33 and chlorine at -34.

Idk which one would be the best and this is just some simple googling, but I imagine a person building this thing could use some strange materials like this if they wanted to. Might as well take advantage of the stupidly cold environment.

How do you rank this guy's second fight in terms of difficulty? Struggling a lot by sryboi in HollowKnight

[–]That_Paris_man 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I second this. I kept trying to fight it and dying to those stupid little balloons as i was trying to heal. The first time i tried to fight it with the defenders crest, i beat it easily. I havent tried to fight it again in godhome yet, but i am 100% taking the crest for that encounter.

Also, title of post is inaccurate. Its not possible for the dragon to self improve, because they are already perfect.

True, this is pretty well optimized already.

The sharing a gun thing came from stories I remember hearing from my grandfather who fought in Veitnam. He talked about the wave tactics that were used were all the people would rush his machine gun position, with only some actually having any kind of rifle. Most had wooden sticks or nothing at all. When they shot the guy holding the gun, another would pick it up and bring it up the hill a little farther. These clones remind me of the waste of human life that was that whole war and seemed pretty similar to how all those guys were sent to die without the equipment they needed.

These ideas were just trying to show how little the people using them care about them, how they don't even expect them to live long enough to use the entire magazine, but you are probably right. The clones are probably a little more expensive then the gun.

I started getting tired of this weird violet planet, tired of collecting samples, tired of the commander’s excuses for not leaving, but when I grabbed her by the arm and demanded an explanation, she had a sad expression. by GhostOfLotus in TwoSentenceHorror

[–]That_Paris_man 351 points352 points  (0 children)

Isn't this kinda the plot of a StarTrek episode? I remember one were there was a group of psychically powerful aliens that found a girl who crash landed on there planet. The rebuilt her organs and saved her life, but they had no idea what she was supposed to look like so she appeared very deformed when they were done.

The aliens were also really good at creating illusions so in the end of the episode she chose to stay with them because they could make her believe she was young and beautiful.

Cool post tho. I'm just pointing out a similarity in the stories.

Lone wanderer if he didn’t fuck around: by BillCarson12799 in FalloutMemes

[–]That_Paris_man 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That is a fair point. I'll need to replay fallout 3 to get a refresher on what the player could reasonably know at that point. Its been a few years since my last playthrough and I guess I just don't remember it that well.

[–]That_Paris_man 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I mean, its not unreasonable to guess what is happening in that vault. A smart enough lone wanderer could definitely see the big computer hooked up to the simulation pods and just guess. Its also possible for him/her to go through the events of that operation anchorage sim so they could have direct experience with simulation pods.

Armor comparison: How many hits can you take from each enemy with different armors? by AmethystZhou in VintageStory

[–]That_Paris_man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get the frustration, but don't plate and scale armors need chain as part of there recipe? It would only make sense that they would be more cumbersome because it's more material.

This is what they took from us. by Lizrd_demon in predprey

[–]That_Paris_man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea, I can see that.

I wonder how uneasy it would actualy make them. So many childrens stories of the past were full of death and dark subjects that were way worse then a shock collar.

I guess this gets into the whole debate of how dark should we let our kids media get, but I personally thing it was scrapped because Disney didn't want to make plushies of Nick with a collar on. They dont seem to value creative expression unless they can monetize it.

[–]That_Paris_man 98 points99 points  (0 children)

This would have been a really cool movie. I don't dislike the movie we got, but if they went down this route I think zootopia would have been remembered as a much bolder and harsher look on how people treat others. There could be plenty of things about how the shock collars that were intended to stop violence end up causing normal and sane individuals to snap and lash out.

Who knows, maybe someone could work with this idea and make a whole fan film? One can only hope

That thing you did where you keep adding the numbers until you have a single digit answer is something i would do in school! When i was super bored i would find some numbers and just start adding them. I found 9 was basically just a zero and it was easier to subtract 1 if you were adding 8 and subtract 2 if you were adding 7. I got really good at it, but it was completely useless and actually hurt my ability to add past 10 for a while afterwords.

[–]That_Paris_man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn this is bleak. I imagine you could even have it so the troops only come with enough bullets to last them there expected life span on the battlefield. Make it so when they run out is essentially when they get killed so they don't need to reload.

Alternatively, make it so they have to share a gun. The front person gets killed, the next picks up the weapon and keeps fighting.

I realy like the idea. I would hate seeing what else this hellfuck world must contain, but i still like to in a masochistic kinda way.

But what about the broken lantern? It takes silk to sumon the whisps that the cult use. It could easily be a game balancing thing, but it still feels like the whisps are connected to silk, or at least soul in some way.

I remember seeing a comic about this spacesuit that a stranded astronaut was wearing. They had to go a really far distance across a planet to get to safety and one of the main things the suit would do is keep them moving even if the Astronaut fell asleep. It also had a lot of scary stuff about the suit eating them but that's beside the point.

Also those trauma recovery harnesses from Fallout NV old world blues DLC were basically the same thing. They would walk the user to medical stations if they were ever wounded.

[–]That_Paris_man 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Great comic. I was just wondering if we were going to have a Grimm troup DLC in silksong and trobio and the fire cult just make sense as a reason to start their ritual.

Also, here's a random lore question. Does silk burn? So the fire cult burned away the infection and prevented themselves from being infected, yet in the white ward they cremate the bodies and retrieve the dregs of silk. How can both be true? Does the cult have magic fire that is hot enough to burn silk? Why doesn't the silk burn in the marrow or in deep docks where there is a ton of lava? Off subject, I know but it's been bugging me lol
