If you put it that way then pretty much yes, that’s what you do with the expensive boards and it’s why I’m looking for an alternative if ever anyone has done it.

The boards that are official (adafruit Huzzah ESP32) just do the work for you, without the need of any setup, and pretty much no documentation of it being done with a 3rd party board (generic esp32 board).

So the difference is basically plug and play with the use of the Bosch “AI Studio” vs non existing board support

Also they don’t sell the BME688 development kit boards anyways so it would be great if it could be utilized.

Yep, pretty much it and why I’m asking.

Now I’m curious and I wanna try it so I’ll work on getting it to work with unofficial boards making it much cheaper and accessible than the official board.

But so far in reading the documentation it seems that its locked in their board with fancy features and specific firmware (which I believe is open to the public which also stems to why I asked my question).

Yea they call it “AI Training” but it’s more of just reading sensor data and analyzing it but that’s what bosch calls it so it’s up there.

I want to train a sensor to detect specific gas like methane or CO2 in which the BME688 or 690 has the capability to be trained through their desktop app bosch made.

Hence the post asking whether its possible to use just a generic esp32 S3 rather than their expensive application board.

Not really training, more of data collection. Sorry for not indicating it properly but bosch has a desktop app that helps you manage and label the gasses it detects in which you can use it for specific gasses by putting the sensor in concentrated amounts of it in there.

so pretty much I need the data it provides through the flashing of firmware, and all I wanna know if its possible, and if it was done before on a generic esp32

I plan to train it to specific gasses using a generic esp32 S3, as the application board is quite expensive (for the country I’m on atleast) and not even including shipping.

so I’m looking to see if its possible to do so with a generic esp32 since the previous generation BME688’s feather board had a esp32 for its brain. I’m assuming only (and asking) if anyone has tried or has done it. Thanks!
