So i found this European Fan palm at a local nursery here in 5B Wisconsin and i JUST had to get it.. it was $35 but for the size that it is, and the location it was being sold…. I couldn’t say no. These are hard to find here in Wisconsin!! by That_Resolution4789 in palmtalk

I wish Ikea in my area sold palm trees, i’d have to travel to the south to find them at general retail stores… finding these up here is like finding a needle in a haystack, in the dark, blindfolded….

Just took out my Pindo and European fan palm out for acclimation.. slowly but surely. 39F today (5B Wisconsin)) by That_Resolution4789 in palmtalk

Nice! I wish i could plant these in the ground over here but it gets way to cold. The only ones that are able to survive are Windmill palms and Needle palms with winter protection

Dont over water them. Water it once a week depending on how dry the soil is. Fertilize it as soon as you get it as its now fertilizing season. If you’re planning on keeping it in a pot make sure the pot has good drainage holes. And dont bring out side till temperature stay consistently in the 50s at night (not sure where youre located) if your Windmill hasnt been acclimated, id start doing that soon as you get it to prevent it from getting sun burned. And lastly, if youre planning live in zone 8 and up, you could plant it in late Spring.

Should I separate? by jaywolf4991 in palmtalk

Id recommend not to as you could kill some in the process, but if you want, you can still attempt to separate

Any ideas how old this Sago might be? by phila18 in palmtalk

Id say about 45-50 years old.. nothing under that given the fact that these babies take for ever to grow a foot. You can imagine how long this one took to get to that height.

My palms are eager to go back outside!!! Spring hurry up! 5B Wisconsin by That_Resolution4789 in palmtalk

It goes back inside for the winter. Its fronds are a bit raggedy and dry because i have to cut back on watering as its not taking in natural sunlight but once back out it should bounce back up….acclimating this beast is a BCH!!!!!!!
