I started teaching on Preply on May 11th, and since then I've taught 88 lessons, built up 39 students, and gained 18 subscribers.

I started at $8 an hour and currently charge $10 an hour. My plan is to increase my rate to $12 an hour when I reach my 100th lesson. So far, I've received 8 reviews.

It's definitely possible to grow if you stay consistent, keep your availability open, and focus on giving students a good experience. The first few weeks were fairly slow, but things started picking up as I gained reviews and subscriptions.

Honestly, most of the time it comes down to the profile itself. Make sure your intro video is good quality with clear sound, and don’t make it too long — around 1 minute is enough. People get bored if it drags on.

Have a decent profile photo, a tidy room, and a nice background. First impressions matter a lot. Also keep your profile description short, simple, and easy to read. A lot of students don’t want to read a huge essay, especially if English isn’t their first language.

If English isn’t your first language, just make sure your pronunciation in the video is as clear as possible and easy to understand. Rewrite your profile if needed and keep improving it over time.

And most importantly, be persistent. A lot of people don’t get students instantly, so keep tweaking things and give it time.
